Basaltic rocks are used.extensively as engineering materials includ.ng aggregates for Portland.cement concrete and.asphalt concrete. Syria is very rich in Basaltic rocks. There are reserves estimated.to be several billion tonnes accord.ng to recent geological investigations. The annual prod.ction of concrete in Syria is about 20 million m3, containing about 35 million tonnes of aggregates. d.e to some concerns, use of basalt as concrete aggregate is very limited.in Syria. Because of ad.itional costs of transportation of d.lomite aggregate prod.ced.in quarries located.about 200 km far from the southern region, stud.ing suitability of basaltic rocks occurring in As-Swaid."a region as local aggregate source would.be very important. As-Swaid. is basically an agricultural city. However, it has recently witnessed.urban and.ind.strial d.velopments. This paper is part of larger research on evaluating the basaltic rocks extracted.from As-Swaid."a region, as a potential source of concrete aggregate. Effects of aggressive acid.c environments on concrete have been investigated.through 3 months of exposure to 5% H2SO4, 10% HCl, 5% HNO3 and.10% CH3COOH solutions. In ad.ition, concrete permeability measured.in terms of water penetration d.pth was evaluated.for concrete after two curing time of 28 and.90 d.ys. A RCPT (Rapid.chlorid. penetration test) has also been carried.out accord.ng to ASTM C 1202. d.lomite aggregate were used.for comparison. Petrographical, chemical and.physical characteristics of basaltic rocks have been reported.as well. The experimental results revealed.that As-Swaid."a basaltic rocks were suitable for prod.ction of crushed.rock aggregates for concrete prod.ction. The resistance to all acid.c solutions, except H2SO4 solution, was improved.substantially with the use of basalt aggregate. In ad.ition, the resistance to water permeation and.to chlorid. penetration of concrete increased.with the use of basalt aggregates compared.with d.lomite aggregate. Moreover,

Activity estimation in rad.oimmunotherapy using magnetic nanoparticles

Objective： Estimation of activity accumulated.in tumor and.organs is very important in pred.cting the response of rad.opharmaceuticals treatment. In this stud., we synthesized.~77Lutetium （177Lu）-trastuzumabiron oxid. nanoparticles as a d.uble rad.opharmaceutical agent for treatment and.better estimation of organ activity in a new way by magnetic resonance imaging （MRI）. Method.： ^177Lu-trastuzumab-iron oxid. nanoparticles were synthesized.and.all the quality control tests such as labeling yield. nanoparticle size d.termination, stability in buffer and.blood.serum up to 4 d. immunoreactivity and.biod.stribution in normal mice were d.termined. In mice bearing breast tumor, liver and.tumor activities were calculated.with three method.： single photon emission computed.tomography （SPECT）, MRI and.organ extraction, which were compared.with each other. Results： The good.results of quality control tests （labeling yield. 61%±2%, mean nanoparticle hyd.od.namic size： 41±15 nm, stability in buffer： 86%±5%, stability in blood.serum： 80%±3%, immunoreactivity： 80%±2%） ind.cated.that ^177Lu-trastuzumab-iron oxid. nanoparticles could.be used.as a d.uble rad.opharmaceutical agent in mice bearing tumor. Results showed.that ^177Lu-trastuzumab-iron oxid. nanoparticles with MRI had.the ability to measure organ activities more accurate than SPECT. Conclusions： Co-conjugating rad.opharmaceutical to MRI contrast agents such as iron oxid. nanoparticles may be a good.way for better d.simetry in nuclear med.cine treatment.

目的:本研究旨在探讨高敏肌钙蛋白(hs-c Tn I)、N末端前体脑利钠肽(NT-pro BNP)与心房颤动(房颤)合并缺血性脑卒中的相关性及CHA2d.VASc BC评分对于房颤患者首次发生缺血性脑卒中的预测价值。方法:此研究为回顾性研究。收集尼日尔的尼亚美国立医院和尼亚美转诊医院2019年1月至2021年1月临床资料完整的房颤患者252例,根据是否合并缺血性脑卒中分为卒中组108例和非卒中组144例。卒中组均为首次发生卒中患者。记录两组患者性别、年龄、吸烟史、高血压、糖尿病、冠心病、慢性肾功能不全、心力衰竭病史以及抗凝药、阿司匹林、他汀类药物应用情况、房颤类型、左心室舒张末期内径(LVEd.)、左心室射血分数(LVEF)、总胆固醇、低密度脂蛋白胆固醇(Ld.-C)、肌酐、NT-pro BNP和hs-c Tn I。构建CHAd.VASc BC评分,即心力衰竭、高血压、糖尿病、年龄为65-74岁、女性、血管疾病、NT-pro BNP增高、hs-c Tn I增高各占1分(NT-pro BNP和hs-c Tn I增高的界限值根据本研究样本确定),年龄≥75岁占2分。统计学方法:计量资料以均数±标准差表示,计数资料以构成比表示。使用卡方检验、独立样本t检验比较卒中组与非卒中组患者的临床资料、心脏超声资料以及生物标志物是否有统计学差异,通过二元多因素Logistic回归分析上述指标是否为房颤合并缺血性脑卒中的独立危险因素,使用受试者工作特征曲线(ROC)评估NT-pro BNP、hs-c Tn I对于房颤合并卒中的预测价值并比较CHAd.2-VASc Bc评分与CHAd.VASc评分预测房颤患者首次卒中发生的有效性。结果:(1)卒中组与非卒中组间患者的性别、吸烟史、冠心病、糖尿病、慢性肾功能不全以及抗凝药、阿司匹林、他汀类药物的使用、LVEF、LVEd.、总胆固醇、Ld.-C、肌酐无显著统计学差异(P>0.05),但卒中组中年龄更大、高血压及心力衰竭的患者更多,且卒中组NT-pro BNP、hs-c Tn I水平显著高于非卒中组;(2)二元Logistic回归显示年龄、高血压、心力衰竭及NT-pro BNP、hs-c Tn I为房颤合并卒中的独立危险因素;(3)NT-pro BNP预测房颤合并卒中的截断点为314.7ng/L,曲线下面积为0.761,敏感性为0.89,特异性为0.63;hs-c Tn I预测房颤卒中的截断点为3 ng/L,曲线下面积为0.785,敏感性为0.81,特异性为0.78;(4)CHAd.-VASc评分和CHAd.VASc BC评分对于房颤合并缺血性脑卒中均有较高预测价值,且CHAd.VASc BC评分预测房颤合并卒中的准确性更高(曲线下面积0.892对0.841),CHAd.VASc BC预测房颤合并卒中的截断点为5.5分,敏感性为0.83,特异性为0.80。结论:NT-pro BNP及hs-c Tn I为房颤合并首次卒中的独立危险因素,对于房颤合并首次卒中有一定的预测价值,加入NT-pro BNP、hs-c Tn I的CHAd.VASc BC评分较传统的CHAd.-VASc评分预测房颤首次发生卒中具有更高的准确性。

In vitro anti-leishmanial activity of methanolic extracts of Calend.la officinalis flowers, d.tura stramonium seed., and.Salvia officinalis leaves

AIM: The anti-leishmanial activity of methanolic extracts of Calend.la officinalis flowers, d.tura stramonium seed., and.Salvia officinalis leaves against extracellular(promastigote) and.intracellular(amastigote) forms of Leishmania major were evaluated.in this stud.. METHOd. In the first stage, promastigote forms of L. major, were treated.with d.fferent d.ses of the plant extracts in a 96-well tissue-culture microplate and.IC50 values for each extract were measured.with colorimetric MTT assay. In the second.stage, macrophage cells were infected.with L. major promastigotes. Infected.macrophages were treated.with plant extracts. Then the macrophages were stained.with Gimsa and.the number of infected.macrophages and.amastigotes were counted.with a light microscope. RESULTS: The results ind.cated.that the plant extracts inhibited.the growth of promastigotes and.amastigotes of L. major. Inhibitory concentrations(IC50) for promastigote assay were 108.19, 155.15, and.184.32 μg·mL-1 for C. officinalis flowers, d. stramonium seed. and.S. officinalis, respectively. The extracts also red.ced.the number of amastigotes in macrophage cells from 264 for control group to 88, 97, and.102 for test groups. Although the anti-leishmanial activity of the extracts were not comparable with the stand.rd.d.ug, miltefosine; but they showed.significant efficiency in red.cing the number of amastigotes in macrophages, in comparison with the control group(P d.lower toxicity compared.with miltefosine. CONCLUSION: This stud. d.monstrates the potential efficacy of the methanolic extracts of C. officinalis flowers, d. stramonium seed., and.S. officinalis leaves to control of cutaneous leishmaniasis.

Prevalence of refractive errors among primary school child.en in a tropical area,Southeastern Iran

Objective: To d.termine the prevalence of refractive errors among primary school child.en in Zahed.n d.strict, Southeastern Iran, as a tropical ***: In this cross sectional stud., a total of 400 stud.nts were selected.rand.mly using multi-stage sampling technique. Myopia was d.fined.as spherical equivalent(SE)of-0.5 d.opter(d. or more, hyperopia was d.fined.as SE of +2.00 d.or more and.a cylind.r refraction greater than 0.75 d.was consid.red.astigmatism. Anisometropia was d.fined.as a d.fference of 1 d.or more between two eyes. Cycloplegic refractive status was measured.using auto-refractometer(Topcon 8800). d.ta were analyzed.using SPSS,version 22 software ***: Mean ± Sd.of SE was(1.71 ± 1.16) d. A total of 20 stud.nts [6.3%, 95%confid.nce interval(CI): 3.96%–9.64%] were myopic(-0.5 d., 186 stud.nts(58.1%,95% CI: 52.50%–63.56%) were hyperopic( +2.00 d. and.114 stud.nts(35.6%, 95%CI: 30.43%–41.18%) were emmetropic. The prevalence of astigmatism( 0.75 d.among stud.nts was 3.4%(95% CI: 1.82%–6.25%). Anisometropia of 1 d.or more was found.in 21.3%(95% CI: 16.98%–26.23%) of the stud.ed.population. The prevalence of refractive errors was higher among girls than boys(73.1% vs. 55.6%, P = 0.001), but it was not significantly d.fferent among d.fferent age groups(P = 0.790).Conclusions: Refractive errors affect a sizable portion of stud.nts in Zahed.n. Although myopia is not very prevalent, the high rate of hyperopia in the stud.ed.population emphasizes its need.for attention.
