Purpose Neutrons detection is of paramount importance in nuclear physics experiments,reactor physics,monitoring and control of nuclear reactors and in radiation *** the neutron detectors used are Proportional Counters(PC to BF3,boron deposition,3He),Our Detection and Measurements laboratory has embarked on a project to develop,design and build proportional counters with boron deposition mainly for gas filling,several prototypes of which have been *** This work presents the Boron-10 Lined Proportional Counters(PC),developed and produced in the Detection and Measurements Department(DDM19).The PC was designed by adopting,for the electrodes,a stainless steel cathode 0.5 mm thick and a gold-plated tungsten anode with diameter of 25μ*** detectors are filled with an Ar-CH4 mixture(10%)at a pressure of 20 *** boron deposition is performed by the technique of *** The results obtained using the DDM19 prototype PC(Detector produced in our Detection and Measurement laboratory,2019),show the advantage of electrophoresis as a better boron deposition technique,and the limitation of the surface mass of 10B to optimal values is around 0.5 at 0.6 mg/*** The characteristics of the gas amplification in the mixture(Ar-CH4(CH410%)),were measured by different methods and compared with the values of the proportional reference counter *** counting plates for the two reference meters LND232 and our DDM19 prototype from 200 to 300 V have slopes ranging from 6.5 to 10%/100 V,and gas amplification factors from 1436 to 1380,respectively.

Neutron detection is used in a wide range of applications in nuclear physics,radiation protection,nuclear fuel cycle,reactor instrumentation,security and industrial *** the detectors used in this field,we notice the gas-filled 3He proportional counters which have been one of the main detecting tools for thermal and cold neutron detection for many *** last characteristic has ensured that this detector is one of the best tools for thermal neutron flux measurements in a nuclear reactor *** the instrumentation and detection laboratory of the Nuclear Research Center,of Birine,we are working toward the design and the development of this type of detectors,indeed,several prototypes of neutron detectors have been realized including the 3He proportional *** this paper,we will present the experimental steps and the obtained results to carry out a 3He proportional counter prototype that was fully developed and tested in our laboratory.A comparison study was made between our detector and a commercial cylindrical 3He neutron detector which was considered in this work as a reference detector:LND252(3He)-*** results showed that the characteristics of the gas amplification and the counting plateau for the two counters reference LND 252(3He)-PC and our prototype was of the same order of *** experimental tests show that our developed prototype perfect fit with the standard International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC,***)in the operating principle,the technology adopted and obtained technical specifications.

NAA Algerian Laboratory Evaluation Processed by WEPAL and IAEA during 2011-2012

Participation in inter-comparison programs is an important process to enhance the accuracy and precision of the analytical techniques used in the laboratories. At Es-Salam Research Reactor, our laboratory uses two functional analytical techniques such as INAA and k0-INAA in the research projects and for the completion of the service works. Recently, our laboratory has participated in two inter-comparison tests organized by IAEA within the framework of the AFRA project to assess the analytical performance of eighteen (18) African analytical laboratories participating in the RAF/4/ 022 project, Enhancement of Research Reactor Utilization and Safety by taking part in analytical proficiency testing IAEA in conjunction with WEPAL, the Wageningen Evaluating Programs for Analytical Laboratories. The Proficiency Testing tests related to the determination of major, minor and trace elements in materials of the International Soil and Plant Analytical Exchange (Wepal codes ISE, IPE), were held in the fourth quarter of 2011 and the first quarter of 2012, respectively. Concentrations of thirty (30) elements such as Al, As, Ba, Br, Ca, Cd, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Fe, Ga, K, La, Mg, Mo, Mn, Na, Nd, Rb, Sb, Sc, Sr, Th, Ti, U, V, W, Zn, Zr were determined in ISE and IPE samples. All results were evaluated and reported in this paper.

The effects of exhaust air vent location on thermal comfort inside a residential building equipped with an evaporative cooling system

The location of exhaust air vents of an evaporative cooling system can have significant effects on providing thermal comfort and controlling humidity, temperature and air distribution in buildings. In the current study, four different strategies have been evaluated for exhaust air vent locations to provide the optimum thermal comfort inside a typical residential house. This study provides a numerical solution for temperature and relative humidity profiles in the residential house and within the living space in each room typically at a height of 1.8 m or less. By evaluating different exhaust air vent locations in a room, the best strategy(ies) to provide more appropriate thermal comfort condition and obtained and as a conclusion, the exhaust vents should be located on furthest wall away from the entrance of the room and in the middle. The results provided in the current study can eventually be applied in the design of evaporative cooler exhaust vent systems in residential buildings and lead to improve the performance of these systems.

In this paper,we investigate the stability and convergence of a family of implicit finite difference schemes in time and Galerkin finite element methods in space for the numerical solution of the acoustic wave *** schemes cover the classical explicit second-order leapfrog scheme and the fourth-order accurate scheme in time obtained by the modified equation *** derive general stability conditions for the family of implicit schemes covering some well-known CFL *** error estimates are *** sufficiently smooth solutions,we demonstrate that the maximal error in the L^(2)-norm error over a finite time interval converges optimally as O(h^(p+1)+∆t^(s)),where p denotes the polynomial degree,s=2 or 4,h the mesh size,and∆t the time step.

Simulation and analysis of resin flow in injection machine screw

A method with simulation and analysis of the resin flow in a screw is presented to ease the control of some problems that may affect the efficiency and the quality of the product among existing screws in an injection machine. The physical model of a screw is established to represent the stress, the strain, the relationship between velocity and stress, and the temperature of the cells. In this paper, a working case is considered where the velocity and the temperature distributions at any section of the flow are obtained. The analysis of the computational results shows an ability to master various parameters depending on the specifications.

Spatial Variability and Cartography of Maximum Annual Daily Rainfall under Different Return Periods in Northern Algeria

The estimation of precipitation quantiles has always been an area of great importance to meteorologists, hydrologists, planners and managers of hydrotechnical infrastructures. In many cases, it is necessary to estimate the values relating to extreme events for the sites where there is little or no measurement, as well as their return periods. A statistical approach is the most used in such cases. It aims to find the probability distribution that best fits the maximum daily rainfall values. In our study, 231 rainfall stations were used to regionalize and find the best distribution for modeling the maximum daily rainfall in Northern Algeria. The L-moments method was used to perform a regionalization based on discordance criteria and homogeneity test. It gave rise to twelve homogeneous regions in terms of LCoefficient of variation(L-CV), L-Skewness(L-CS) and L-Kurtosis(L-CK). This same technique allowed us to select the regional probability distribution for each group using the Z statistic. The generalized extreme values distribution(GEV) was selected to model the maximum daily rainfall of 10 groups located in the north of the steppe region and the generalized logistic distribution(GLO) for groups representing the steppes of Central and Western Algeria. The study of uncertainty by the bias and RMSE showed that the regional approach is acceptable. We have also developed maximum daily rainfall maps for 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 years return periods. We relied on a network of 255 rainfall stations. The spatial variability of quantiles was evaluated by semi-variograms. All rainfall frequency models have a spatial dependence with an exponential model adjusted to the experimental semi-variograms. The parameters of the fitted semi-variogram for different return periods are similar, throughout, while the nugget is more important for high return periods.
