Impacts of fuel feeding methods on the thermal and emission performance of modern coal burning stoves

The extensive use of traditional cooking and heating stoves to meet domestic requirements creates a serious problem of indoor and outdoor air *** study reports the impacts of two fuel feeding methods-front-loading and top-loading on the thermal and emissions performance of a modern coal-fired water-heating and cooking stove using a contextual test sequence that replicates typical patterns of domestic *** as a low-pressure boiler,when this stove was fueled with raw coal,the findings indicate that front-loading the fuel,which devolatilizes the new fuel gradually,produced consistently higher space heating efficiency and lower emission factors than top-loading the same stove,which devolatilizes new fuel all at *** the performance at both high and low power gave the similar results:front-loading with raw coal produced consistently better results than *** average water heating efficiency when front-loading was(58.6±2.3)%and(53.4±1.8)%for *** the sixteen-hour test sequence,front-loading produced 22%lower emissions of PM2.5(3.9±0.6)mg/MJNET than top-loading(4.7±0.9)mg/*** same pattern was observed for carbon monoxide and the CO/CO2 *** was reduced from(5.0±0.4)g/MJNET to(4.1±0.5)g/*** combustion efficiency(CO/CO2 ratio)improved from(8.2±0.8)%to(6.6±0.6)%.Briquetted semi-coked coal briquettes are promoted as a raw coal substitute,and the tests were replicated using this ***,the same pattern of improved performance was *** loading produced 3.5%higher heating efficiency,10%lower CO and a 0.9%lower CO/CO2 *** is concluded that,compared with top loading,the manufacturers recommended front-loading refueling behavior delivered better thermal,emissions and combustion performance under all test conditions with those two fuels.

Samarium doped lead-zinc-phosphate glasses having composition(60-x)P_(2)O_(5)-20PbO-20ZnO-xSm_(2)O_(3) where x=0,0.5,1.0,3.0mol%were prepared by using the melt quenching *** Archimedes method was used to measure their densities,which are used to calculate the molar *** values of densities lie in the range 3.698–4.090 gm/cm^(3) whereas those of molar volume lie in the range of 37.24–40.00 cm^(-3).UV-vis-NIR absorption spectroscopy in the wavelength range 200–2000 nm was carried *** spectra consist of seven absorption peaks corresponding to the transitions from the 6H5/2 ground state to various excited energy *** energy band gap measured from the optical absorbance is found to be in the range of 3.88–4.43 eV and 3.68–4.33 eV for direct and indirect transitions,*** addition,the photoluminescence spectrum shows four prominent emission bands centered at 560,597,642 and 700 nm corresponding to the 4G5/2–6HJ(J=5/2,7/2,9/2,11/2)transitions respectively and the intensity of all the bands are enhanced as the concentration of Sm3+ions increases.

The National Cancer Institute had projected breast cancer(BC) as one of the topmost prevalent malignancies around the *** many cases,BC becomes resistant to chemotherapy,radiation and hormonal *** BC therapies are associated with adverse side effects,drug resistance and *** research work has shown that these dietary phytochemicals(DPs) may exert therapeutic effects by regulating the miRNA expression.A large number of DPs have been researched as miRNA regulatory agents against BC and some other DPs have not yet been tested against *** have discussed the effects of curcumin,diallyl disulphide,3,3′ diindolylmethane,ellagic acid,genistein,indole-3-carbinol,quercetin,resveratrol,and sulforaphane on regulation of expression of BC miRNAs in a wide range of in vitro and in vivo *** have also shown some of the possible DPs(Oleanolic acid,capsaicin,benzyl isothiocyanate,epigallocatechin gallate,phenethyl isothiocyanate and ursolic acid) that have shown miRNA regulatory activities and have not yet been tested against BC ***,current limitations,challenges,future perspectives of DPs and BC research are also critically discussed.

Use of the multiplane internal mastopexy for ptosis correction revision-augmentation mammoplasty

Aim:Augmentation mammoplasty is a commonly performed procedure with a high satisfaction *** pocket was described for simultaneous internal mastopexy and augmentation using inframammary crease incision for selected primary and secondary *** use of the technique is presented with a larger experience for correction of ptosis in a patient presenting for revision surgery following subglandular augmentation ***:A retrospectively collected data were analyzed using the Excel Spread Sheet.A total of 25 patients had multiplane augmentation with the internal mastopexy following augmentation mammoplasty in subglandular *** of 25 patients who had their revision surgery in multiplane were ***:The group included 25 patients with a mean age of 36.6 years(range:25-54 years)with mean implant duration of 6.4 years(range:1.5-13 years).Twenty-three of the patients were nonsmokers,1 smoker and 1 patient’s smoking status was not *** patients presented with grade I capsular contracture,3 patients with grade II contracture and 4 patients had a combination of grade I and II capsular *** was present in 6,class B ptosis in 6,A/B ptosis in 3,water-down deformity in 5 and rippling in 5 *** preoperative size of implant used initially was 334.4 mL(range:250-340 mL)and the mean implant size selected for revision surgery was 416 mL(range:260-525 mL).Mean follow-up time was 18 months(range:6-48 months).Of 25 patients,21 had a bilateral procedure whereas the technique was used unilaterally in 4 patients for the correction of *** patients had a single dose of intravenous antibiotics and followed by an oral course for 5 days,there was no infection noted in the *** the current series,no patient required revision surgery following the multiplane internal ***:Multiplane internal mastopexy can be useful in selected cases of revisionary augmentation mammoplasty.

Indoor air pollution is ranked the 5th in the Global Burden of Disease index of the World Health Organization(WHO).Almost half of the world’s population depends on biomass fuels to meet their basic energy requirements for cooking,lighting and space *** fuel is badly combusted in poorly designed stoves,the fuel-stove combination results in high level of noxious emissions entering the home,accumulating to dangerous *** this study,a Chinese unvented top lit updraft(TLUD)biomass stove was operated with three different biomass pellets formed from corn stover,cotton stalk and peanut *** performance tests were conducted according to the latest standard from the Chinese Ministry of *** calorific value,moisture level,volatile matter and elemental composition are reported for *** thermal efficiencies of the stove were 15.3%,10.1%and 14.4%,*** cooking powers were 2.68 kW,1.61 kW and 1.57 *** exhaust was collected using a hood and *** CO,NO and NOX were drawn after passing 1.5 m along the tunnel and the Particulate Matter(PM)was sampled after 1.6 *** Emission Factors(EF)for CO,NO,NOX and PM_(10) are reported on both a mass per unit energy delivered to the pot(g/MJ_(NET))and a mass per mass of fuel basis(g/kg).The range for CO was 4.56-7.61 g/MJ_(NET)(11.25-21.25 g/kg);NO was 0.75-1.23 g/MJ_(NET)(2.09-3.04 g/kg);NO_(x) was 1.13-1.90 g/MJ_(NET)(3.14-4.86 g/kg);PM_(10) was 0.59-0.85 g/MJ_(NET)(1.67-2.09 g/kg).The range in these values was more significantly influenced by the fuel moisture content and the percentage of volatile matter than by variations in the elemental composition.

Dear Editor, Fluoroquinolones (e.g., ciprofloxacin (CIP), enrofloxacin (ENR), and levofloxacin (LEV)) are an extensively used family of antibiotics prescribed for various infections;however, they are also increasingly used to promote livestock growth. After oral administTation, much of the parent compound is excreted via urine and feces and can enter the environment at a high concentration. These antibiotics are only partially removed in wastewater treatment plants and become a part of the environment through irrigation practices.

作为一种经常大于鲕粒的包覆颗粒类型,核形石以其不平滑的圈层被解释为微生物成因,区别于成因存在较大争议的鲕粒,而且常与鲕粒和其他类型的碳酸盐颗粒相互共生;作为一种在围绕着生物碎屑和非生物碎屑核心的序列式纹层化作用过程中形成的球形或假球型生物沉积构造,核形石还常常单独产出和分布,所以又被解释为微生物碳酸盐岩,或者被归为球状叠层石。在辽东半岛寒武系第二统碱厂组和馒头组之中,厘米级别大小的核形石密集发育在三级层序的顶部,成为一种时间特化的相。另外,以下重要特征将辽东半岛寒武系第二统的核形石特征化,包括:(1)与凝块和微凝块共生;(2)多为球状和椭球状;(3)由不均一的非纹层状致密泥晶和微亮晶构成;(4)核形石皮层以及核形石间凝块中发育特别的蓝细菌鞘钙化化石等。尽管穿越成岩作用过滤器去解释古代核形石复杂的形成机理存在着巨大的挑战,也尽管形成这些核形石的复杂生物膜钙化作用细节需要更加深入地研究才能得到更好地了解,但是,辽东半岛第二统碱厂组和馒头组核形石中直接的微生物化石证据,尤其是核形石内较为丰富的钙化蓝细菌鞘化石,使其成为一个了解光合作用生物膜建造核形石的典型实例。

Overexpression of inhibinα(1-32)fusion protein promotes apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in a cervical cancer cell model(Hela cells)

Inhibins play important roles in the reproductive system. To evaluate whether inhibin α (1-32) fusion protein plays a role in cervical cancer growth, the plasmid pVAX-inhα was constructed and its effect on proliferation and apoptosis of the human cervical cancer cell line (Hela) was checked by flow cytometry and real-time PCR. The expression and localization of inhibin α protein were detected by RT-PCR and confocal mi- croscopy which showed that inhibin α protein was expressed and localized in the nucleus of Hela cells. Over ex- pression of inhibin α gene significantly induced cell apoptosis and ceased S phase of cell cycle. Furthermore, cell proliferation was significantly suppressed 96 h post-transfection and mRNA level of anti-apoptosis genes (Bcl-2, NFκB) were decreased but pro-apoptosis genes (Bax, wild type p53) and inhibin co receptor (TGFβR3) were increased, indicating that inhibin, through its co-receptor, might activate apoptotic and cell growth cascades which regulate proliferation and apoptosis in Hela cells. These results suggest that inhibin α (1-32) fusion pro- tein, located in the cell nucleus, can regulate Hela cells growth and apoptosis by induction of apoptotic pathways such as NFκB, Bcl-2 and p53 families. These findings may have a significant impact on future research regarding cervical cancer cell lines.
