Effect of Cumulus Cells on the Efficiency of Vitrified-Thawed Immature Cattle Oocytes

The present work was designed to examine the effect of the presence or absence of cumulus cells on the efficiency of vitrification of immature cattle oocytes. In our experiment, we had two groups: group 1, immature cattle oocytes with cumulus cells and group 2, immature cattle oocytes without cumulus cells. The two groups underwent vitrification using 20% ethylene glycol and 20% DMSO, and then thawed, and in vitro matured in TCM-199 medium and examined after 22 hours for assessment of nuclear maturation. Higher survival rate (p ells are very important in increasing the survivability and developmental rate of vitrified-thawed immature cattle oocytes.

SAT, a New Approach in Understanding and Treatment of Subclinical Endometritis in Dairy Cows

The aim of this work was to compare the use of local intrauterine moist heat infusion to intrauterine antibiotics infusion, for treatment of subclinical endometritis which affects reproduction and milk production. 42 repeat breeder cows were divided into 4 groups, group 1 was the untreated control (=10 cows). Group 2 (=10 cows) was treated by 50 ml of Oxytetracycline 5% intrauterine for three successive weeks. Group 3 (=10 cows) intrauterine infusion with 30 ml saline adding to them 10 ml Gentamycin 10% and 10 ml penicillin and streptomycin for three successive weeks. Group 4 (=12 cows) intrauterine infusion with 50 ml sterile boiling water (≈100°C) was applied directly to the uterus for only one time. Leukogram was done before and after treatment, it showed leukocytosis and neutrophilia in all the study groups. After treatment for 36 hours and one week, there were no significant changes in the leukogram results of groups 1, 2 and 3. While in Group 4 showed decreasing in numbers of leukocytes (11.92 ± 0.75) and neutrophils (0.87 ± 0.16) to its normal limits after 36 hours and one-week post-treatment. Our new method gave the highest cumulative pregnancy rate 83.3% while other groups using antibiotics or antibiotics with saline gave lower pregnancy rate 40% and 50% respectively (P > 0.001). We named this new treatment method “samia-treat;SAT”. SAT is a whole new and effective treatment for cases of repeat breeder which are caused by SCE in dairy cows;it caused increase in reproductive performance and cumulative pregnancy rate without over use of antibiotics.

The Prevalence of Irritable Bowel Syndrome among Medical and Non-Medical Suez Canal University Students

Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most frequently diagnosed gastrointestinal (GI) disorders in primary care and gastroenterology practices, despite the fact that many suffer symptoms without knowing their diagnosis or seek for medical consult, so this study aims to explore the prevalence of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) among Suez Canal university students. Methods: A cross section. With multistage cluster probability sample. Using Rome criteria III IBS module, the questionnaire was administrated to Suez Canal university students;a population consisting of (86) students of the faculty of medicine & non-medical (84) students of the faculty of commerce English section with total (170) students of the third batch from both faculties (whose mean age is 20 ± 0.82) years old with total (109) females and (61) males. Results: The prevalence of IBS according to Rome III criteria in Suez Canal University was 22.9%. 23.8% were diseased in the faculty of commerce while 22.1% in faculty of medicine. Females in this study represent 64.1% of the sample, 30.3% of them were diseased, while males represent 35.9% about 9.8% of them were diseased. IBS constipation predominant type was 28.2%, diarrhea predominant type was 15.4%, mixed type was 46.2%, the unsubtyped cases represent 10.3%. Conclusion: Irritable bowel syndrome is a common disease among Suez Canal university students, more common in non medical students than medical ones, can be considered as a female predominant disease. And this requires a real medical concern.
