To the Editor： Cholinergic urticaria （CU） is a type of physical urticaria characterized by a number of short-lasting, highly pruritic weals. The underlying pathological mechanism of CU is not fully understood. Omalizumab is a humanized, monoclonal IgG anti-lgE antibody that binds specifically to circulating lgE molecules, thus interrupting the allergic cascade, The efficacy of anti-lgE treatment has been shown in many disorders with complex and unclear etiology, comprising physical urticarias, chronic idiopathic urticaria, angioedema and eosinophil-associated gastrointestinal disorders.

Skin disorders in peritoneal dialysis patients:An underdiagnosed subject

AIM： To examine all skin changes in peritoneal dialysis （PD） patients followed up in our ***： Patients on PD program for at least three months without any known chronic skin disease were included in the study. Patients with already diagnosed skin disease, those who have systemic diseases that may cause skin lesions, patients with malignancies and those who did not give informed consent were excluded from the study. All patients were examined by the same predetermined dermatologist with all fndings recorded. The demographic, clinical and laboratory data including measures of dialysis adequacy of patients were recorded also. Statistical Package for Social Sciences （SPSS） for Windows 16.0 standard version was used for statistical ***： Among the patients followed up in our PD unit, those without exclusion criteria who gave informed consent, 38 patients were included in the study with male/female ratio and mean age of 26/12 and 50.3 ± 13.7 years, respectively. The duration of CKD was 7.86 ± 4.16 years and the mean PD duration was 47.1 ± 29.6 mo. Primary kidney disease was diabetic nephropathy in 11, nephrosclerosis in six, uropathologies in four, chronic glomerulonephritis in three, chronic pyelonephritis in three, autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease in three patients while cause was unknown in eight patients. All patients except for one patient had at least one skin lesion. Loss of lunula, onychomycosis and tinea pedis are the most frequent skin disorders recorded in the study group. Diabetic patients had tinea pedis more frequently （ P = 0.045）. No relationship of skin findings was detected with primary renal diseases, comorbidities and medications that the patients were ***： Skin abnormalities are common in in PD patients. The most frequent skin pathologies are onychomycosis and tinea pedis which must not be overlooked.

Corneal properties in children with congenital isolated growth hormone deficiency

AIM:To compare the corneal parameters of children with congenital isolated growth hormone deficiency and healthy ***:In this cross-sectional,prospective study,50 cases with growth hormone(GH)deficiency treated with recombinant GH and 71 healthy children underwent a complete ophthalmic *** corneal hysteresis(CH),corneal resistance factor(CRF),Goldmann-correlated intraocular pressure(IOPg)and corneal-compensated intraocular pressure(IOPcc)were measured with the Ocular Response Analyzer(ORA).Central corneal thickness(CCT)was measured by a ultrasonic ***:The mean age was 13.0±3.0 years in the GH deficiency group consisting of 21 females and 29 males and 13.4±2.4 years in the healthy children group consisting of 41 females and 30 *** was no statistically significant difference between the groups for gender or age(Chi-square test,P=0.09;independent ttest,P=0.28,respectively).The mean duration of recombinant GH therapy was 3.8±2.4y in the study *** mean CH,CRF,IOPg and IOPcc values were 11.0±2.0,10.9±1.9,15.1±3.3,and 15.1±3.2 mm Hg respectively in the study *** same values were 10.7±1.7,10.5±1.7,15.2±3.3,and 15.3±3.4 mm Hg respectively in the control *** mean CCT values were 555.7±40.6,545.1±32.5μm in the study and control groups *** was no statistically significant difference between the two groups for CH,CRF,IOPg,IOPcc measurements or CCT values(independent t-test,P=0.315,0.286,0.145,0.747,0.13 respectively).CONCLUSION:Our study suggests that GH deficiency does not have an effect on the corneal parameters and CCT *** observation could be because of the duration between the beginning of disease and the diagnosis and beginning of GH therapy.
