Correlation of oxidation reduction potential and total motile sperm count:its utility in the evaluation of male fertility potential

Oxidative stress(OS)is detri me ntal to sperm fun ctio ns,and the oxidation reductio n pote ntial(ORP)is a good measure of OS as it considers the balance betwee n oxidants and reducta *** motile sperm count(TMSC)is viewed as the single most im porta nt semen analysis parameter that can predict male infertility severity,and its correlation with ORP has never been *** objectives of this study were to assess the correlation between ORP and TMSC,to identify the ORP cutoff value based on the TMSC result,and to compare this cutoff value with previously reported ORP cutoff values in *** thousand one hundred and sixty-eight infertile patients and 100 fertile controls were *** and semen data of the participants were retrieved and *** on's rank-sum test compared variables betwee n infertile men and fertile controls;Spearman's correlation assessed the static ORP(sORP)-TMSC relationship for the whole sample and among each group *** a 20×10^6TMSC threshold,receiver operator characteristic(ROC)analysis determined the sORP cutoff associated with the highest predictive *** was significantly negatively correlated with sORP across all participants(r=0.86,Palue of 2.34 mV/106sperm/ml to be associated with 82.9%sensitivity,82.8%specificity,91.5%positive predictive value(PPV),68.5%negative predictive value(NPV),and 82.9%overall *** with previously reported cutoff values in searched literature,the 2.34 mV/10^6sperm/ml cutoff value identified in our study yielded the highest overall diagnostic accuracy in the evaluation of in fertile men.

In recent years, large-area wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductor materials have achieved numerous notable breakthroughs [1, 2]. The ultra-WBG semiconductor β-Ga2O3,with its excellent material properties, is ideally suited for the fabrication of power devices. Moreover, it offers easily obtainable large-area substrates, with reported sizes up to 6 inches, produced through melt-grown crystal growth methods. These characteristics make β-Ga2O3 highly attractive for future low-cost commercialization. Despite these advances, most research has focused on low-current and small-size diodes, with few studies addressing high-current and large-size diodes.

Design Study of a Cable-based Gait Training Machine

This paper deals with a design approach of a gait training machine based on a quantitative gait analysis. The proposed training machine is composed of a body weight support device and a cable-driven parallel robot. This paper is focused on the cable-driven robot, which controls the pose of the lower limb through an orthosis placed on the patient＇s leg. The cable robot reproduces a normal gait movement through the motion of the orthosis. A motion capture system is used to perform the quantitative analysis of a normal gait, which will be used as an input to the inverse dynamic model of the cable robot. By means of an optimization algorithm, the optimal design parameters, which minimize the tensions in the cables, are determined. Two constraints are considered, i.e., a non-negative tension in the cables at all times, and a free cable/end-effector collision. Once the optimal solution is computed, a power analysis is carried out in order to size the robot actuators. The proposed approach can be easily extended for the design study of a similar type of cable robots.

The vast revolution in networking is increasing rapidly along with tech-nology advancements,which requires more effort from all cyberspace profes-sionals to cope with the challenges that come with advanced technology privileges and ***,Cognitive Radio Network is one of the promising approaches that permit a dynamic type of smart network for improving the utili-zation of idle spectrum portions of wireless ***,it is vul-nerable to security threats and attacks and demands security mechanisms to preserve and protect the cognitive radio networks for ensuring a secure commu-nication *** paper presents an effective secure MAC protocol for cognitive radio networks,signiﬁcantly enhancing the security level of the existing DSMCRN and SSMCRN protocols by eliminating the authentication server’s necessity,which can be a single point of failure to compromise the entire network *** proposed protocol has proven to be effective and reliable since it does not rely on a centralized entity for providing the required security for a single pair of cognitive *** protocol also improves the performance in the context of fast switching to data channels leading to higher throughput is achieved compared to the benchmark protocols.

The dehydrogenation of light alkanes to corresponding light olefins is an important industrial *** present work involved the assessment of a commercial alkane dehydrogenation circulating fluidized bed (CFB) reactor unit that had been underperforming and exhibiting higher than expected catalyst losses over a long period of *** aspects of this unit related to fluidization,catalysis,and process engineering were investigated to understand and resolve these *** primary focus was on the fluidization aspects of the process,along with a comparison of equipment design and operating conditions to accepted best practices in the *** designs of key equipment in the reactor and regenerator,including feed distributors,fuel gas distributors,cyclones,baffles,strippers,transfer lines,risers,riser terminations,and refractories,were studied in *** attrition rates of different types of catalysts used in the unit were also *** recommendations and improvement opportunities were proposed to significantly increase light olefins production and reduce catalyst losses,and were accepted and *** study provides insights into means of improving fluidization behavior and highlights the viability of employing a systematic approach to determine the underlying root causes of issues in a commercial CFB reactor unit.

Enhanced Heap-Based Optimizer algorithm for Solving Team Formation Problem

Team Formation(TF)is considered one of the most significant problems in computer science and *** is defined as forming the best team of experts in a social network to complete a task with least *** real-world problems,such as task assignment,vehicle routing,nurse scheduling,resource allocation,and airline crew scheduling,are based on the TF *** has been shown to be a Nondeterministic Polynomial time(NP)problem,and high-dimensional problem with several local optima that can be solved using efficient approximation *** paper proposes two improved swarm-based algorithms for solving team formation *** first algorithm,entitled Hybrid Heap-Based Optimizer with Simulated Annealing algorithm(HBOSA),uses a single crossover operator to improve the performance of a standard heap-based optimizer(HBO)*** also employs the simulated annealing(SA)approach to improve model convergence and avoid local minima *** second algorithm is the Chaotic Heap-based Optimizer algorithm(CHBO).CHBO aids in the discovery of new solutions in the search space by directing particles to different regions of the search *** HBO’s optimization process,a logistic chaotic map is *** performance of the two proposed algorithms(HBOSA)and(CHBO)is evaluated using thirteen benchmark functions and tested in solving the TF problem with varying number of experts and ***,the proposed algorithms were compared to well-known optimization algorithms such as the Heap-Based Optimizer(HBO),Developed Simulated Annealing(DSA),Particle SwarmOptimization(PSO),GreyWolfOptimization(GWO),and Genetic algorithm(GA).Finally,the proposed algorithms were applied to a real-world benchmark dataset known as the Internet Movie Database(IMDB).The simulation results revealed that the proposed algorithms outperformed the compared algorithms in terms of efficiency and performance,with fast convergence to the global minimum.

Exteriorized colon anastomosis for unprepared bowel: An alternative to routine colostomy

AIM: To see the possibility of avoiding routine colostomy in patients presenting with unprepared bowel. METHODS: The cohort is composed of 103 patients, of these, 86 patients presented as emergencies (self- inflected and iatrogenic colon injuries, stab wounds and blast injury of the colon, volvulus sigmoid, obstructing left colon cancer, and strangulated ventral hernia). Another 17 patients were managed electively for other colon pathologies. During laparotomy, the involved segment was resected and the two ends of the colon were brought out via a separate colostomy wound. One layer of interrupted 3/0 silk was used for colon anastomosis. The exteriorized segment was immediately covered with a colostomy bag. Between the 5th and 7th postoperative day, the colon was easily dropped into the peritoneal cavity. The defect in the abdominal wall was closed with interrupted nonabsorbable suture. The skin was left open for secondary closure. RESULTS: The mean hospital stay (± SD) was 11.5 ± 2.6 d (8-20 d). The exteriorized colon was successfully dropped back into the peritoneal cavity in all patients except two. One developed a leak from oesophago- jejunostomy and from the exteriorized colon. She subsequently died of sepsis and multiple organ failure (MOF). In a second patient the colon proximal to the exteriorized anastomosis prolapsed and developed severe serositis, an elective ileo-colic anastomosis (to the left colon) was successfully performed. CONCLUSION: Exteriorized colon anastomosis is simple, avoids the inconvenience of colostomy and can be an alternative to routine colostomy. It is suitable where colostomy is socially unacceptable or the facilities and care is not available.

Scour hole reduction at a diversion channel junction using different entrance edge shapes

In the current study,the effect of the entrance edge shape on the scour hole in the diversion junction region was experimentally *** investigation has considered three entrance modelsrounded edge shapes on one or both sides of the diversion channel entrance-with five different inlet edge radius ratios(rr) of 25%,37.5%,50%,62.5%,and 75% and five different diversion discharge ratios(Qr)of 7.5%,12.5%,17.5%,22.5%,and 30%.The results have found the direct relation between Qrand the scour depth to the diversion channel water depth ratio(ds/yb).Moreover,the use of a rounded edge shape on one or both sides of the diversion channel entrance instead of a sharp shape results in a reduction in scour depth to diversion channel water depth ratio(ds/yb) when the Qris greater than 20%.The results also indicated that the largest decrease in the scour coefficient(Kds) for the model with a rounded downstream edge compared with the sharp edge diversion channel entrance shape was 22% at a discharge ratio of 22.5% and an edge radius ratio of 37.5%.In addition,the entrance shape model with a rounded edge at the upstream outperformed other models in scour reduction with an average of all experiments of 5.77%.Finally,empirical relations for estimating scour depth for different rounded edge models in terms of the effective dimensionless parameters were established with coefficients of determination(R2) of not less than 0.853.
