Seasonal Abundance and Diversity of Birds of Prey and Owls in Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Inland wetlands in Abu Dhabi Emirate are wintering and stopover sites for migratory birds of prey. We conducted long-term regular monitoring surveys in Al Wathba Wetland Reserve (AWWR) from January 1995 to December 2022. Both diurnal and occasionally nocturnal surveys were undertaken to record the migratory raptors and owls in the Wetland Reserve. During the study, a total of 1282 regular monitoring visits were undertaken and 27 species of diurnal raptors and owls representing five families and three orders were detected. These represent 57% of the total species of birds of prey recorded in the UAE. Overall, 63% of all the species that we observed were Accipitriformes followed by 26% Falconiformes and 11% Strigiformes. We found that changes in mean daily temperature have a positive effect on raptor species diversity and abundance in the Wetland Reserve. The species encounter rate was higher in low temperature as compared to high temperature and overall regression equation was statistically significant F (4, 1126) = 8.49), p = 0.00). However, the numbers of raptors did not vary significantly across the years (p = 0.51). Western Marsh-harrier (Circus aeruginosus) and Greater Spotted Eagle (Clanga clanga) were recorded to be the most abundant species in the wetland reserve followed by Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus). However, the encounter rate of globally threatened Greater Spotted Eagle was detected to have significantly decreased since 2016. Moreover, 63% of the species detected were uncommon and rarely recorded such as 1) Saker Falcon 2) Lanner Falcon 3) Long-eared Owl & Merlin, which were the rare records from the wetland reserve. Furthermore, 27 years of regular monitoring in the wetland have yielded diverse diurnal raptors and owl fauna (H) = 0.83, (E) = 1.43 (Shannon Diversity Index). Epilepsy is a complex disorder that is commonly associated with brain dysfunction, social isolation, and vocational difficulty. Each of these factors may contribute to the increased prevalence of psychiatric illness in epilepsy, but emerging evidence is providing a more complete and clearer elucidation of the problem. Clinical investigations have consistently demonstrated that depression has a large impact on subjective health status. In patients with recurrent seizures, depression appears to have a stronger association with quality of life than does the seizure rate. In fact, depression is second only to medication toxicity as the clinical factor that explains the greatest variance in quality of life. Only a small number of studies have investigated the plausible neurobiological mechanisms of depression in epilepsy, but preliminary data suggest that underlying brain dysfunction may be a more important predictor than vocational or social disability. Furthermore, specific aspects of hippocampal dysfunction may be a causal factor in the genesis and maintenance of depression in temporal lobe epilepsy. Current treatment recommendations for depression in epilepsy are similar to those for otherwise neurologically normal depressed patients, emphasizing the role of serotonin reuptake inhibitors, but certain antidepressants should be used with caution. Ongoing studies are attempting to define optimal treatment strategies, and more definitive data to guide clinical management are expected to become available in the near future.

In this paper,we propose a modular multilevel converter(MMC)with a wireless magnetic power decoupling approach suitable for medium-voltage high-power variable-speed machine *** proposed power decoupling approach is independent of the operating frequency,which solves the issue of wide fluctuations of low-frequency voltage ripple components in submodule(SM)capacitors,especially at low-speed operations without using any ripple power *** wireless magnetic elements reduces the amount of high-voltage insulation between the transformer windings,resulting in a significant reduction in the overall size of the *** basic idea of our proposed approach is to magnetically couple the instantaneous three-phase ripple power of each of the three adjacent-arm *** proposed MMC is free from low-frequency capacitors,resulting in enhanced system reliability,volume,and *** operation principles of the proposed MMC are explained,and a control design is *** performance of the proposed scheme was verified via simulation and experimental tests.

Prevalence of unsuspected thyroid nodules in adults on contrast enhanced 16-and 64-MDCT of the chest

AIM: To determine the prevalence of unsuspected thyroid nodules on contrast enhanced 16and 64-modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) of the chest, in a population of adult outpatients imaged for indications other than thyroid disease. METHODS: This retrospective study involved review of intravascular contrast-enhanced MDCT scans of the chest from 3077 consecutive adult outpatients, to identify unsuspected thyroid nodules. Exclusion criteria included history of thyroid cancer, known thyroid nodules or thyroid disease and risk factors for thyroid cancer, as evidenced by their medical records. One of 9 radiologists recorded number of nodules, location and bidirectional measurement of largest nodule, as well as amount of thyroid visualized on the chest computed tomography (CT). Presence of nodule was correlated with age, gender, race and percentage of thyroid imaged. RESULTS: A total of 2510 (2510/3077 or 81.6%) study subjects were included in the data analysis; among them,one or more nodules were identified in 629 subjects (629/2510 or 25.1%), with 242 (242/629 or 38.5%) having multiple nodules. Patients with nodule(s) were significantly older than those without (64 ± 13 years vs 58 ± 14 years, P < 0.0001), and female gender was associated with presence of nodule(s) (373/1222 or 30.5% vs 256/1288 or 19.9%, P < 0.0001). Women were also more likely having multiple nodules (167/373 or 44.8%) compared to men (75/256 or 29.3%, P < 0.0001). The majority of nodules (427/629 or 67.9%) were less than 1 cm. CONCLUSION: This retrospective review revealed a prevalence of 25.1% for unsuspected thyroid nodules on contrast-enhanced chest CT.

Due to the difficulties of brain tumor segmentation, this paper proposes a strategy for extracting brain tumors from three-dimensional MagneticResonance Image (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT) scans utilizing3D U-Net Design and ResNet50, taken after by conventional classificationstrategies. In this inquire, the ResNet50 picked up accuracy with 98.96%, andthe 3D U-Net scored 97.99% among the different methods of deep *** is to be mentioned that traditional Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)gives 97.90% accuracy on top of the 3D MRI. In expansion, the imagefusion approach combines the multimodal images and makes a fused image toextricate more highlights from the medical images. Other than that, we haveidentified the loss function by utilizing several dice measurements approachand received Dice Result on top of a specific test case. The average mean scoreof dice coefficient and soft dice loss for three test cases was 0.0980. At thesame time, for two test cases, the sensitivity and specification were recordedto be 0.0211 and 0.5867 using patch level predictions. On the other hand,a software integration pipeline was integrated to deploy the concentratedmodel into the webserver for accessing it from the software system using theRepresentational state transfer (REST) API. Eventually, the suggested modelswere validated through the Area Under the Curve–Receiver CharacteristicOperator (AUC–ROC) curve and Confusion Matrix and compared with theexisting research articles to understand the underlying problem. ThroughComparative Analysis, we have extracted meaningful insights regarding braintumour segmentation and figured out potential gaps. Nevertheless, the proposed model can be adjustable in daily life and the healthcare domain to identify the infected regions and cancer of the brain through various imagingmodalities.

The purpose of this pictorial essay is to review the common and uncommon sites of renal cell carcinoma recurrence throughout the body by examining their appearances on computerized tomography(CT). CT imaging protocols will be discussed. The sites of recurrence have been categorized into 4 groups: chest and mediastinum, abdomen and pelvis, musculoskeletal, and neurological. For each site of recurrence, a representative CT image correlate with discussion is provided. The unique CT appearance of renal cell carcinoma recurrence and how it can be used in lesion detection will be discussed. Renal cell carcinoma recurrences are hypervascular like the primary tumor, which can aid in not only lesion detection but also in some cases, differentiation from other primary tumors. Through CT case review of various sites of recurrence, lesions are shown to be easily seen on arterial phase while sometimes being nearly inconspicuous on venous or delayed phases. Coronal and sagittal reconstructions can also improve diagnostic sensitivity. CT is the most commonly used imaging tool for surveillance of renal cell carcinoma recurrence after nephrectomy. Knowledge of sites of recurrence as well as the utility of arterial phase imaging and multiplanar reconstructions will aid in optimizing detection of disease recurrence.

Malakoplakia: Rare Disorder with No Significant Racial Prevalence

Introduction: Malakoplakia is a rare acquired granulomatous inflammatory condition. Microscopically it is characterized by sheets of histiocytes with abundant eosinophilic granular cytoplasm (known as von Hansemann cells) with intracytoplasmic rounded concentric basophilic inclusions (Michelis-Guttmann bodies). We reviewed all cases of malakoplakia diagnosed at our institution in the past 15 years, including clinical, macroscopic, and microscopic features as well as treatment and prognosis. Methods: Gross and microscopic features of cases diagnosed as malakoplakia from 2005 to 2019 at our institution were reviewed. Clinical history, including sites of involvement, clinical presentation, imaging, past medical history, treatment, follow-up and prognosis, as well as demographic characteristics were obtained. Results: Eighteen surgical pathology cases of malakoplakia were identified. Most cases occurred in female (14/18, 77.8%) and all in adults (median age 48.5 years;range 31 - 87). Half of the patients were Caucasian, 44% African American and 6% were reported as “other” race. One third (6/18) of patients presented with a mass-like lesion on imaging or endoscopic studies. As to site of lesion, 61.1% (11/18) involved GU tract, 27.8% (5/18) gastrointestinal (GI) tract, 5.6% (1/18) liver, and 5.6% (1/18) vagina. 38.9% of patients (7/18) had antibiotics treatment upon diagnosis. Conclusion: Malakoplakia is a rare disorder occurring in a wide age range, more commonly in females, with no significant racial prevalence. While the GU and GI tracts are the most common sites, other anatomic locations can be involved. Accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment are important to avoid recurrence.

We obtain the quantized momentum eigenvalues, Pn, and the momentum eigenstates for the space-like Schrodinger equation, the Feinberg-Horodecki equation, with the improved deformed exponential-type potential which is constructed by temporal counterpart of the spatial form of these potentials. We also plot the variations of the improved deformed exponential-type potential with its momentum eigenvalues for few quantized states against the screening parameter.
