Heavy metal pollution is a key environmental *** extracting heavy metals could accomplish water purification and resource recycling *** is a promising approach with a facile process,adaptability for the broad concentration of feed water,and high ***,the adsorption method faces challenges in synthesizing highperformance sorbents and regenerating adsorbents *** is an environmentally friendly sorbent with low-cost production on a large ***,the selectivity behavior and regeneration of FeOOH are seldom ***,we investigated the selectivity of FeOOH in a mixed solution of Co^(2+),Ni^(2+),and Pb^(2+)and proposed to enhance the capacity of FeOOH and regenerate it by using external *** charge,the FeOOH electrode shows a Pb^(2+)uptake capacity of 20 mg/*** applying a voltage of-0.2/+0.8 V,the uptake capacity increases to a maximum of 42 mg/g and the desorption ratio is 70%-80%.In 35 cycles,FeOOH shows a superior selectivity towards Pb^(2+)compared with Co^(2+)and Ni^(2+),with a purity of 97%±3%in the *** high selectivity is attributed to the lower activation energy for Pb^(2+)*** capacity retentions at the 5^(th)and the 35^(th)cycles are ca.80%and ca.50%,respectively,comparable to the chemical regeneration *** industrially exhausted granular ferric hydroxide as the electrode material,the system exhibits a Pb^(2+)uptake capacity of 37.4 mg/g with high *** work demonstrates the feasibility of regenerating FeOOH by charge and provides a new approach for recycling and upcycling FeOOH sorbent.

This paper presents an apatite U-Pb and geochemistry archive for exposed plutons and metamorphic rocks of the Kyrgyz South Tian Shan(STS)within the Central Asian Orogenic *** U-Pb dates and trace-element geochemistry are provided for 17 samples from late Carboniferous-early Permian I-type granites in the Terktinsky complex and A-type granites in the Kokshaal Range;early Devonian granites in the Kembel complex;Cryogenian granitoids and tuffs from the Middle Tian Shan and gneisses from the Atbashi metamorphic *** samples form a comprehensive selection of igneous and metamorphic rocks within the cores of Mesozoic basement highs that supplied detritus to adjacent basins such as the Tarim,Ferghana and Yarkand-Ferghana ***,the granitoid samples preserve primary igneous apatite U-Pb ages that are within uncertainty of previously published zircon U-Pb *** apatites from the Atbashi metamorphic complex record anomalous Ordovician dates with large uncertainties that are interpreted as mixing ages between Cryogenian protolith formation and Carboniferous *** component analysis discriminates apatite samples from the different bedrock terranes in the Kyrgyz STS based on their geochemical fingerprint and categorizes the samples with respect to an extensive apatite geochemical *** combined apatite-zircon archive provides a novel framework for provenance studies on the Meso-Cenozoic sedimentary history of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt.

MicroRNAs as novel predictive biomarkers and therapeutic targets in colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer(CRC) is the third most common cancer in western countries. Despite significant improvement in available treatment options, CRC still remains the second leading cause of cancer-related death. Traditionally, 5-fluorouracil has been used as the main chemotherapy drug for treatment of metastatic CRC(mCRC). However, during the last two decades more effective chemotherapeutic agents such as oxaliplatin, irinotecan and the monoclonal antibodies cetuximab, panitumumab and bevacizumab have been used in clinical practice. More recently, the therapeutic armamentarium has been supplemented by the monoclonal antibodies bevacizumab, cetuximab and panitumumab as well as the protein-trap aflibercept and the smallmolecule multi-kinase inhibitor regorafenib. One of the major problems for the management of CRC is the inherent or acquired resistance to therapeutic approaches. The discovery of microRNAs(miRNAs), a class of small, endogenous, non-coding, single-stranded RNAs that play a role as post-transcriptional regulators, has added new dimensions to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Because miRNAs are important regulators of carcinogenesis, progression, invasion, angiogenesis and metastases in CRC, they might serve as potential predictive and prognostic factors and even as therapeutic targets themselves. Several miRNAs are already known to be dysregulated in CRCs and have been linked to biological processes involved in tumor progression and response to anti-cancer therapies. This review summarizes current therapeutic approaches for treating CRC and highlights the role of miRNAs as novel predictive biomarkers and potential drug targets in CRC patients.

A probabilistic estimation model for seismic physical portfolio loss of a water supply pipeline system

Knowledge of an animal＇s home range is a crucial component in making informed management decisions. However, many home range studies are limited by study area size, and therefore may underestimate the size of the home range. In many cases, individuals have been shown to travel outside of the study area and utilize a larger area than estimated by the study design. In this study, data collected by multiple research groups studying bottlenose dolphins on the east coast of Florida were combined to determine how home range estimates increased with increasing study area size. Home range analyses utilized photo-identification data collected from 6 study areas throughout the St johns River （S jR; jacksonville, FL, USA） and adjacent waterways, extending a total of 253km to the southern end of Mosquito Lagoon in the Indian River Lagoon Estuarine System. Univariate kernel density estimates （KDEs） were computed for individuals with 10 or more sightings （n= 20）. Kernels were calculated for the primary study area （S jR） first, then additional kernels were calculated by combining the S jR and the next adjacent waterway; this continued in an additive fashion until all study areas were included. The 95% and 50% KDEs calculated for the S jR alone ranged from 21 to 35 km and 4 to 19 kin, respectively. The 95% and 50% KDEs calculated for all combined study areas ranged from 116 to 217 km and 9 to 70 km, respectively. This study illustrates the degree to which home range may be underestimated by the use of limited study areas and demonstrates the benefits of conducting collaborative science.

Understanding how plants respond to nitrogen in their environment is crucial for determining how they use it and how the nitrogen use affects other processes related to plant growth and development. Under nitrogen limitation the activity and affinity of uptake systems is increased in roots, and lateral root formation is regulated in order to adapt to low nitrogen levels and scavenge from the soil. Plants in the legume family can form associations with rhizobial nitrogen-fixing bacteria, and this association is tightly regulated by nitrogen levels. The effect of nitrogen on nodulation has been extensively investigated, but the effects of nodulation on plant nitrogen responses remain largely unclear. In this study, we integrated molecular and phenotypic data in the legume Medicago truncatula and determined that genes controlling nitrogen influx are differently expressed depending on whether plants are mock or rhizobia inoculated. We found that a functional autoregulation of nodulation pathway is required for roots to perceive, take up, and mobilize nitrogen as well as for normal root development. Our results together revealed that autoregulation of nodulation, root development, and the location of nitrogen are processes balanced by the whole plant system as part of a resource-partitioning mechanism.
