Comparison of neurological clinical manifestation in patients with hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke

BACKGROUND: Cerebrovascular accident(CVA) is the third leading cause of death and disability in developed countries. Anyone suspected of having a stroke should be taken immediately to a medical facility for diagnosis and treatment. The symptoms that follow a stroke aren't signi? cant and depend on the area of the brain that has been affected and the amount of tissue damaged. Parameters for predicting long-term outcome in such patients have not been clearly delineated, therefore the aim of this study was to investigate this possibility and to test a system that might practicably be used routinely to aid management and predict outcomes of individual stroke ***: A descriptive hospital-based study of the neurological symptoms and signs of 503 patients with ischemic stroke, including severe headache, seizure, eye movement disorder, pupil size, Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS), agitation were analyzed in this ***: In the current study, dilated pupils, agitation, acute onset headache, lower GCS score, seizure, and eye gaze impairment had signi? cantly higher prevalence in hemorrhagic stroke patients(P<0.001). However, the rate of gradual progressive headache is significantly higher in ischemic stroke patients(P<0.001).CONCLUSION: Although this result provides reliable indicators for discrimination of stroke types, imaging studies are still the gold standard modality for diagnosis.

Evaluation of preventable trauma death in emergency department of Imam Reza hospital

BACKGROUND: Trauma is considered as a worldwide problem despite socio-economic development. Motor vehicle accidents(MVAs) are the most important cause of trauma. Trauma related deaths are mostly preventable. This study aimed to investigate the causes and prevention of death in trauma ***: This retrospective, descriptive-analytic study assessed 100 trauma patients referred to our emergency department(ED) from January 2013 to Januanry 2015. The included patients were those with trauma died after arrival at our ED. Age, sex, cause of trauma, clinical causes of death, causes of death def ined by autopsy, way of transfer to the ED, time of ambulance arrival at the scene of trauma, and time elapsed to enter the ED from the scene of trauma were ***: In the 100 patients, 21(21%) patients were female and 79(79%) male. Fortythree patients were older than 60 years. Trauma was largely due to pedestrian accidents in 31% of the patients, and 33% had a hypo-volemic shock. About 80% of deaths were due to intra-cranial hemorrhage(ICH) or intra-ventricular hemorrhage(IVH), and spinal injuries were not preventable. Autopsy revealed that 28% of the patients suffered from internal injuries. Autopsy revealed that 19% of the deaths were not preventable and 81% were considered preventable. In our patients, 76 were transferred to the hospital by emergency medicine services(EMS). Analysis of time for ambulance arrival to the scene and frequency of death revealed that 52.2% of the deaths occurred between 11 and 15 minutes. Analysis of time for admission to the ED from the scene of trauma showed that 74.6% deaths occurred between 6 and 10 ***: The rate of hospital preventable deaths is about 80%, a high mortality rate, which denotes a lack of proper diagnosis and treatment. The time for arrival of EMS at the scene of trauma is longer than that in other countries.

BACKGROUND:Atrial fibrilation(AF) is the most common complication following heart surgeries;it often occurs in patients after coronary artery bypass graft(CABG).The purpose of this review is to categorize prophylaxes or treatment by administration of Amiodaron in patients with *** RESOURCES:We searched google scholar,pubmed,and Cochrane Library databases(the period 1970-2010) for articles on Amiodaron in CABG and cardiac surgery.A total of 1 561 articles were identified,and 30 articles met the criteria and were enrolled in this ***:Most studies supported Amiodarone for prophylaxi purpose in patients who were performed with CABG;few papers supported Amiodaron as a drug for treating *** prophylaxis can decrease the incidence rate of AF in CABG,but if it uses as a treatment,the side effect of Amiodaron will decrease because all of the patients will not get *** the other hand use of Amiodarone as a treatment does not influence the length of hospital stay significantly but these kinds of study are so ***:No appropriate therapeutic method has been defined for *** present,the common way of treating AF following cardiac surgery is mainly based on prophylaxis in medical books and references.

Antidepressive and anxiolytic effects of a combination of Saffron and Chamomile in rats and their relationship with serotonin using in vivo methods

OBJECTIVE: To explore the potential of combining natural herbs like chamomile and saffron for the management of anxiety and depression. METHODS: A rodent model of Major Depressive Disorder(MDD) and anxiety, secondary to streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus was made. A total of 6 rat groups were chosen; healthy and diseased controls; and diseased test groups of fluoxetine, saffron, chamomile, and combined saffron and chamomile treated(n = 6/group). Activity by forced swim test(FST), elevated plus maze test(EPMT), and correlations with biochemical markers like serum glucose, tryptophan, C-reactive protein(CRP), brain derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) and 5-hydroxytryptamine 2C receptor(5HT2CR) expression, were assessed at the end of the 3rd week of the treatment. A one-way analysis of variance with a post-hoc Tukey's test was applied. RESULTS: The combined herbal treatment group showed significantly better(P < 0.05) than all other groups in terms of anti-hyperglycemic effect. All treatments improved the CRP levels; however, the combination group was also significantly better than fluoxetine and the individual herb groups. Only the herb groups showed efficacy in the FST with added benefits of the combination group over the healthy controls and similar trends in the EPMT. However, expression of 5HT2CR was repressed while BDNF was elevated through treatment. CONCLUSION: This study shows that in comparison to treatment with a SSRI, and individual herbs, the combination of chamomile and saffron showed overall improved outcomes.

Mineralogy and Geochemistry of Major, Trace and Rare Earth Elements in Sediments of the Hypersaline Urmia Salt Lake, Iran

Urmia Salt Lake （USL） is a hypersaline lake located at the NW corner of the Iran platform. The lake area is estimated to have been over 5000 km2 at one point, but has now decreased to 〈1000 km^2 in the last two decades. It contains 4.6×109 tons of halite and other detrital and evaporative minerals such as calcite, aragonite, dolomite, quartz, feldspars, augite and sylvite. This study examined the mineralogy and geochemistry of bed sediments along the mid-east toward NE bank sediments collected from 1.5 meters depth and nearby augite placer. Due to the diverse iithology of the surrounding geology, bed sediments vary from felsic in the mid-east to mafic in the northeast. Weathering of tephrite and adakite rocks of the Islamic Island at the immediate boundary has produced a large volume of augite placer over a 40 km length, parallel to the shoreline. Based on the study result, weathering increases from south to north and the geochemistry of the sediments shows enrichment of MgO, CaO, Sr and Ba associated with Sr deployment in all samples. Rare earth elements （REE） patterns normalized to the upper continental crust （UCC） indicated LREEs enrichment compared to HREEs with an elevated anomaly of Eu, possibly due to surface absorbance of Mn and Fe minerals, associated with Sr elevation originating from adakites in the lake basin vicinity.

IntroductionA rapidly increasing need for organ transplantation and short list of donated organs have led to the development of new materials and technologies for organ manufacturing. Although some simple organs, such as skin and cartilage, have been successfully fabricated and commercialized, it is still difficult to make tissues and organs with high complexity. Engineered tissues have other biomedical applications, such as drug screening models and bio-actuators. Threedimensional （3D） bioprinting has become a great tool to fabricate tissue constructs on demand for transplantation and other biomedical applications.

Studies on batch adsorptive removal of cadmium and nickel from synthetic waste water using silty clay originated from Balochistan-Pakistan

The potentials of silty clay(SC),acquired from Chaman,Balochistan,were investigated as adsorbent for Ni(Ⅱ)and Cd(Ⅱ)removal from contaminated *** influence of different operating factors like dose,pH,temperature,and time of contact was explored,and optimum values were noted under batch adsorption *** study was conducted with varying concentrations of solutions on optimized conditions and different adsorption models i.e.,Langmuir,Freundlich,Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich(D-R)isotherm,which were employed to interpret the *** isothermal data of both Ni(Ⅱ)and Cd(Ⅱ)were well fitted to Langmuir isotherm suggesting the formation of monolayer of metal ions on silty *** values of adsorption capacity noted for Ni(Ⅱ)and Cd(Ⅱ)were 3.603 mg·g^-1 and 5.480 mg·g^-1,*** studies affirmed that pseudo second order(PSO)kinetics was being obeyed by the removal of Ni(Ⅱ)and Cd(Ⅱ).Thermodynamic variables like free energy change(ΔG°),enthalpy change(ΔH°)and entropy change(ΔS°)were *** negative value ofΔG°and the positive values ofΔH°andΔS°unfolded that the removal process of both metal ions of by SC was spontaneous,endothermic and feasible.
