In this study, to fabricate dual-pore scaffolds with interconnected pores, Non-solvent Induced Phase Separation （NIPS） and Wire-Network Molding （WNM） techniques were combined. First, a mold with uniform slits was prepared, and needles were inserted into the mold. Subsequently, polycaprolactone （PCL） pellets were dissolved in tetrahydrofuran （THF） at a specified ratio. The slurry was mixed using hot plate stirrer at 1200 rpm for 24 hours at 40 ~C. The PCL slurry was subsequently injected into the mold. Thereafter, to exchange the THF （solvent） with the ethanol （non-solvent）, the mold was soaked in an ethanol bath. After removing the mold from the ethanol bath, the needles were removed from the mold. Consequently, dual-pore scaffold with interconnected pores was obtained. The surface morphology of the fabricated scaffolds were observed using Scanning Electron Microscope （SEM）. Moreover, cell culture experiments were performed using the CCK-8 assay, and the characteristics of cells grown on the dual-pore scaffolds were assessed and were compared with the NIPS-based 3D plotting scaffold.

A novel method for a full-parallax three-dimensional （3D） holographic display by means of a lens array and a holographic functional screen is proposed. The process of acquisition, coding, restoration, and display is described in detail. It provides an efficient way to transfer the two-dimensional redundant information for human vision to the identifiable 3D display for human eyes. A holo-video system based on a commercial 4 K fiat-panel displayer is demonstrated as the result.

This thesis explores the changes of UK-China bilateral relations from 2013-2019,using the2016 Brexit referendum as a crucial turning *** explores the UK's approach and policy towards China,particularly focusing on the higher education sector in developing what was coined the ‘Golden Era' by British politicians,which gradually emerged as official rhetoric during the Cameron era before intensifying at the peak of bilateral relations in 2015 with the first official state visit from China to the UK in a *** motivations behind the deep political divisions of Brexit are examined based on the destabilising conception of how national identity trumps a united Pan-European dialogue,as well as the perceptions of the EU as a normative *** thesis looks at the influence and the use of the higher education sector to bridge relations for the future while arguing that Brexit is change of normative force that contributes to a new understanding of UK domestic and foreign policy and where Britain sees its alignments in the ***,the research looks to the future of UK relations with China after leaving the *** thesis concludes that despite the eager attempts of promoting this narrative,Britain's declining power on the global stage has already increased reliance and dependency on China as a partner,not only in the traditional trade and investments but also has a huge potential impact on the education *** research provides qualitative analysis of Britain's past and future in the education sector,taking a closer look at an often overlooked but influential sector.

SiBCN and BN/SiBCN light-leakage-proof coatings were prepared on silica optical fibers for sensing applications at high *** electron microscopy was used to characterize the surface morphology and microstructure of the coated *** and optical properties of the coated fiber were characterized by raman,optical and tensile *** with the original fiber,the tensile strength of Si BCN and BN/Si BCN coated fiber show an increase of about 60%and 90%at room temperature,*** addition,the tensile strength of BN/Si BCN coated silica optical fiber was increased by about 42%at 700°*** has been found that the improvement of the strength of BN/Si BCN coated silica optical fiber is related to the healing of defects and residual compressive stress in *** the light transmittance performance of the coated fiber,it was found that BN/Si BCN double coating could be an ideal total reflection solution to protect silica optical fiber from light leakage during high temperature sensing operation.

A procedure for purification of single walled carbon nanotubes(SWNTs) grown by the chemical vapour deposition(CVD) of carbon monooxide has been developed. Based on the result from TGA/DTA of as prepared sample, the oxidation temperature was determined. The process included sonication, oxidation and acid washing steps. The purity and yield after purification were determined and estimated by TEM. Moreover, for the first time, a loop structure for CVD SWNTs has been observed.

The effect of lamellar orientation on the deformation behavior of eutectic high entropy alloy at the micrometer scale,and the roles of two rarely explored laminate orientations(i.e.,the lamellar orientation at~0°and 45°angles with the loading direction)in regulating size-dependent plasticity were investigated using in-situ micropillar compression *** alloy,CoCrFe NiTa_(0.395),consists of alternating layers of Laves and FCC *** was found that the yield stress of the 0°pillars scaled inversely with the pillar diameters,in which the underlying deformation mode was observed to transform from pillar kinking or buckling to shear banding as the diameter *** the case of the 450 pillars with diameters ranging from 0.4 to 3μm,there exists a’weakest’diameter of~1μm,at which both constraint effect and dislocation starvation are *** of the lamellar orientations,the strain hardening rate decreased with decreasing pillar diameter due to the diminishing dislocation accumulation that originated from the softening nature of large shear bands in the 0°pillars,and the enhanced probability of dislocation annihilation at the increased free surfaces in the 45°*** findings expand and deepen the understanding of the mechanical size effect in small-scale crystalline materials and,in so doing,provide a critical dimension for the development of high-performing materials used for nanoor microelectromechanical systems.

The control synthesis of the high-speed underwater vehicle faces many technical challenges due to its inherent structure and surrounding operational *** this paper,the dynamical behavior is firstly described through a bifurcation analysis to give some insights for robust control *** a novel adaptive fractional-order sliding mode controller(AFOSMC)is realized to effectively manipulate the supercavitating vehicle against payload changes,nonlinear planing force,and external *** fractional order(FO)calculus can offer more flexibility and more freedom for tuning active control synthesis than the integer-order *** addition,the adaptation law has been presented to directly handle the payload change *** stability of the controlled vehicle system is proven via Lyapunov stability ***,the dynamic performance of the proposed controller is verified through extensive simulation results,which demonstrate the control accuracy with faster responses compared with existing integer-order ***,the proposed fractional order controllers can provide higher performance than their integer order counterparts with control algorithms.

User experience(UX) is essential for creating successful interactive ***,whether the evaluation of user experience is universal across different cultures is *** the past decades,a large number of researches have demonstrated consistently that different cultures play an important role in influencing people’s perception and cognition of the *** cultural differences can also influence people’s aesthetic judgments and experience of *** main goals of our research were two-fold:1) to develop a standardized Chinese questionnaire for assessing the UX of interactive products,and 2) to evaluate the experience of Chinese users in interacting with three different mobile phones,Nokia,Blackberry,and *** study results identified three main factors or dimensions contributing to the experience of Chinese users:Hedonic Quality(Stimulation),Pragmatic Quality,and Conformity,as compared to the four dimensions in the AttracDiff,an English questionnaire popularly used in western *** three mobile products,iPhone was considered the most beautiful,usable,and popular,providing the best user experience overall.

Ironmaking involves the separation of iron ores. It not only represents the first step in steelmaking but also is the most capital-intensive and energy-intensive process in the production of steel. The main route for producing iron for steelmaking is to use the blast furnace, which uses metallurgical coke as the reductant. Concerns over the limited resources, the high cost of coking coals, and the environmental impacts of coking and sinter plants have driven steelmakers to develop alternative ironmaking processes that can use non-coking coals to reduce iron ores directly. Since the efficiency and productivity of modern large capacity blast furnaces will be difficult to surpass, blast furnaces will continue to retain their predominant position as the foremost ironmaking process for some time to come. The alternative ironmaking processes are therefore expected to play an increasingly significant role in the iron and steel industry, especially in meeting the needs of small-sized local and regional markets. It is likely that the importance of direct reduced iron （DrI） and hot metal as sources of virgin iron will continue to increase, especially in the developing countries where steelmaking is, and will be, primarily based on electric arc furnace （EAF） minimills. Consequently, the challenges that are faced by the new technology have to be embraced.
