Reconstructing hourly residential electrical load profiles for Renewable Energy Communities using non-intrusive machine learning techniques

The successful implementation of Renewable Energy Communities(RECs)involves maximizing the self-consumption within a community,particularly in regulatory contexts in which shared energy is *** many countries,the absence of a metering infrastructure that provides data at an hourly or sub-hourly resolution level for low-voltage users(e.g.,residential and commercial users)makes the design of a new energy community a challenging *** study proposes a non-intrusive machine learning methodology that can be used to generate residential electrical consumption profiles at an hourly resolution level using only monthly consumption data(i.e.,billed energy),with the aim of estimating the energy shared by *** proposed methodology involves three phases:first,identifying the typical load patterns of residential users through k-Means clustering,then implementing a Random Forest algorithm,based on monthly energy bills,to identify typical load patterns and,finally,reconstructing the hourly electrical load profile through a data-driven rescaling *** effectiveness of the proposed methodology has been evaluated through an REC case study composed by 37 residential users powered by a 70 kWp photovoltaic *** Normalized Mean Absolute Error(NMAE)and the Normalized Root Mean Squared Error(NRMSE)were evaluated over an entire year and whenever the energy was shared within the *** Relative Absolute Error was also measured when estimating the shared energy at both a monthly(MRAE)and at an annual basis.(RAE).A comparison between the REC load profile reconstructed using the proposed methodology and the real load profile yielded an overall NMAE of 20.04%,an NRMSE of 26.17%,and errors of 18.34%and 23.87%during shared energy timeframes,***,our model delivered relative absolute errors for the estimation of the shared energy at a monthly and annual scale of 8.31%and 0.12%,respectively.

The development of sensitive assays to detect small amounts of hepatitis B virus(HBV) DNA has favored the identification of occult hepatitis B infection(OBI), a virological condition characterized by a low level of HBV replication with detectable levels of HBV DNA in liver tissue but an absence of detectable surface antigen of HBV(HBs Ag) in serum. The gold standard to diagnose OBI is the detection of HBV DNA in the hepatocytes by highly sensitive and specific techniques, a diagnostic procedure requiring liver tissue to be tested and the use of non-standardized non-commercially available techniques. Consequently, in everyday clinical practice, the detection of anti-hepatitis B core antibody(antiHBc) in serum of HBs Ag-negative subjects is used as a surrogate marker to identify patients with OBI. In patients with chronic hepatitis C(CHC), OBI has been identified in nearly one-third of these cases. Considerable data suggest that OBI favors the increase of liver damage and the development of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) in patients with CHC. The data from other studies, however, indicate no influence of OBI on the natural history of CHC, particularly regarding the risk of developing HCC.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) represents one of the leading causes of tumor-related deaths worldwide. Among the various tools at physicians’ disposal for the diagnostic management of the disease, tomographic imaging (e.g., CT, MRI, and hybrid PET imaging) is considered essential. The qualitative and subjective evaluation of tomographic images is the main approach used to obtain valuable clinical information, although this strategy suffers from both intrinsic and operator-dependent limitations. More recently, advanced imaging techniques have been developed with the aim of overcoming these issues. Such techniques, such as diffusion-weighted MRI and perfusion imaging, were designed for the “in vivo” evaluation of specific biological tissue features in order to describe them in terms of quantitative parameters, which could answer questions difficult to address with conventional imaging alone (e.g., questions related to tissue characterization and prognosis). Furthermore, it has been observed that a large amount of numerical and statistical information is buried inside tomographic images, resulting in their invisibility during conventional assessment. This information can be extracted and represented in terms of quantitative parameters through different processes (e.g., texture analysis). Numerous researchers have focused their work on the significance of these quantitative imaging parameters for the management of CRC patients. In this review, we aimed to focus on evidence reported in the academic literature regarding the application of parametric imaging to the diagnosis, staging and prognosis of CRC while discussing future perspectives and present limitations. While the transition from purely anatomical to quantitative tomographic imaging appears achievable for CRC diagnostics, some essential milestones, such as scanning and analysis standardization and the definition of robust cut-off values, must be achieved before quantitative tomographic imaging can be incorporated into

Staging of rectal cancer is essential to help guide clini-cians to decide upon the correct type of surgery and determine whether or not neoadjuvant therapy is indicated. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is currently one of the most accurate modalities on which to base treatment decisions for patients with rectal cancer. MRI can accurately detect the mesorectal fascia, assess the invasion of the mesorectum or surrounding organs and predict the circumferential resection margin. Although nodal disease remains a difficult radiological diagnosis, new lymphographic agents and diffusion weighted imaging may allow identification of metastatic nodes by criteria other then size. In light of this, we have reviewed the literature on the accuracy of specific MRI findings for staging the local extent of primary rectal cancer. The aim of this review is to establish a correlation between MRI findings, prognosis, and available treatment options.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD) is a common disorder of the gastrointestinal tract. In the last few decades, new technologies have evolved and have been applied to the functional study of the esophagus, allowing for the improvement of our knowledge of the pathophysiology of GERD. High-resolution manometry(HRM) permits greater understanding of the function of the esophagogastric junction and the risks associated with hiatal hernia. Moreover, HRM has been found to be more reproducible and sensitive than conventional water-perfused manometry to detect the presence of transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxation. Esophageal 24-h p H-metry with or without combined impedance is usually performed in patients with negative endoscopy and reflux symptoms who have a poor response to anti-reflux medical therapy to assess esophageal acid exposure and symptom-reflux correlations. In particular, esophageal 24-h impedance and p H monitoring can detect acid and non-acid reflux events. Endo FLIP is a recent technique poorly applied in clinical practice, although it provides a large amount of information about the esophagogastric junction. In the coming years, laryngopharyngeal symptoms could be evaluated with up and coming non-invasive or minimally invasive techniques, such as pepsin detection in saliva or pharyngeal p H-metry. Future studies are required of these techniques to evaluate their diagnostic accuracy and usefulness, although the available data are promising.
