Bed-to-surfac. heat transfer of pure biomass partic.es in a pulsed fluidized bed with a tapered bottom sec.ion was inv.stigated. Three biomass spec.es — Douglas fir, pine, and switc.grass — were studied under v.rious operating c.nditions. Their heat transfer c.effic.ents were found to be c.osely assoc.ated with hydrodynamic. dominated by gas pulsations. A higher superfic.al gas v.loc.ty generally yielded better gas–solid c.ntac. and higher heat transfer rates. A moderately inc.easing pulsation frequenc. promoted c.nv.c.iv. heat transfer of partic.es but also reduc.d pulsation intensity, leading to undesired flow behav.ours suc. as c.annelling and partial defluidization. The study of the pulsation duty c.c.e rev.aled that, for c.hesiv. partic.es, a smaller duty c.c.e was preferred to generate powerful pulsations to break up inter-partic.e forc.s. Moreov.r, a duty c.c.e inc.ease allowed higher gas throughput as long as a suitable fluidization was maintained. The addition of finer partic.es to a c.arse frac.ion inc.eased partic.e mobility, and subsequently heat transfer, whic. also explained the higher heat transfer c.effic.ents of switc.grass as it c.ntained more fines c.mpared with fir and pine. Experimental results in the tapered bed were also c.mpared with those of non-tapered geometry where a 10%–20% inc.ease in heat transfer was observ.d.

The axial and radial distributions of static.pressures and v.rtic.l partic.e v.loc.ties of c.nic.l spouted beds hav. been simulated and c.mpared with experimental data. Simulation results show that, among all fac.ors inv.stigated, the Ac.ual Pressure Gradient （the APG term） in c.nic.l spouted beds, introduc.d as the default grav.ty term plus an empiric.l axial solid phase sourc. term, has the most signific.nt influenc. on static.pressure profiles, followed by the restitution c.effic.ent and fric.ional v.sc.sity, while other fac.ors almost hav. no effec.. Apart from the solid bulk v.sc.sity, almost all other fac.ors affec. the radial distribution of the axial partic.e v.loc.ty, although the influenc. of the APG term is less signific.nt. For c.mplex systems suc. as c.nic.l spouted beds where a fluidized spout region and a defluidized annulus region c.-exist, the new term introduc.d in this work c.n improv. the c.D simulation. Furthermore, for other systems with the Ac.ual Pressure Gradient different from either fluidized beds or pac.ed beds, the new approac. c.n also be applied.

Bac.ground: Urinary inc.ntinenc. mainly affec.s women regardless of age and, as it affec.s their quality of life, influenc.s work, sex life and independenc. for ac.iv.ties of daily liv.ng. The treatment of stress urinary inc.ntinenc. inc.uding urethral v.lume injec.ion therapy c.n prov.de an intermediate option ov.r non-surgic.l and surgic.l therapies. One of the mec.anisms for stress c.ntinenc. depends on the effec.iv. c.aptation of the urethra during the inc.ease in intra-abdominal pressure. The bulking agents c.n be injec.ed transurethral or periurethral retrogradely, using direc. v.sion from a c.stosc.pe. Purpose: To ev.luate the feasibility and prelim.nary outc.me performanc. of the bac.erial polysac.haride gel used as biologic.l bulking agent applied in female patients with stress urinary inc.ntinenc.. Methods: A prospec.iv. c.inic.l pilot study was performed, in a single institution, inc.uding female patients who were admitted to the urologic.outpatient c.inic.with Stress Urinary Inc.ntinenc. (SUI) without prev.ous treatments and they were selec.ed and underwent bulking agent proc.dure. The ev.luation was performed at the time of enrollment and 6 months after treatment. The primary outc.me was Quality of Life (QOL) using the Ic.Q-SF Questionnaire. The amount of urine leakage measured by the 1-HOUR PAD-TEST was the sec.nd outc.me. Results: Fifteen women (with an av.rage age of 53 years) were submitted to the applic.tion of bac.erial c.llulose gel and she was analyzed. Only two patients presented unc.anged inc.ntinenc.. The study c.nsidered as primary outc.me the improv.ment or disappearanc. of symptoms after six months of interv.ntion. Post-interv.ntion Quality of Life (QOL) questionnaire indic.ted that all of these patients related a better quality of life (62.5%). Through the PAD-test it was possible to observ. a dec.ease in urinary leak of 85% c.mparing the results pre and post-interv.ntion (Bc.—Bac.erial c.llulose Applic.tion) with p-v.lue equal to 0.00000

c.ntextualization: Emptying the bladder is a c.allenging problem for the urologic.l c.mmunity. Intermittent c.theterization is the most widely used method to restore bladder emptying mec.anism. Howev.r, this proc.dure c.n hav. a negativ. impac. on self-image and result in a dec.ine in the quality of life of patients. In this c.ntext, the use of a bladder emptying dev.c. (Sv.ATH3D) proposes to be effec.iv. and hav. a positiv. impac. on the quality of life of different patients. Objec.iv.: The objec.iv. of the study was to ev.luate the func.ionality of a new dev.c. for both intermittent and c.ntrolled emptying of the bladder in both sexes and ages. Materials and methods: A randomized c.inic.l trial was c.nduc.ed with 251 patients, with different bladder problems, from Marc. 2013 to January 2023. After randomization, the patients were div.ded into two groups: Group I (Sv.ATH3D) and Group II (c.ean Intermittent c.theterization). The primary outc.me was defined as the impac. on quality of life. Data on episodes of urinary trac. infec.ion, adv.rse effec.s, number of diaper use and treatment c.sts were analyzed. Results: The apposition of the Sv.ATH3D was performed on an outpatient basis, with no c.mplic.tions during the proc.dures. The patients were followed up for 10 years. There was a signific.nt improv.ment in quality of life when c.mparing the moments before and after the use of Sv.ATH3D (p c.nc.usion: The study using Sv.ATH3D showed promising results in relation to func.ionality, showing improv.ment in quality of life with a reduc.ion in episodes of urinary infec.ion and amount of diapers/day. This allows us to c.nc.ude that Sv.ATH3D c.n represent an important step in the treatment of patients suffering from v.rious bladder problems both inc.ntinenc. and affec.ing emptying mec.anism.

Minimum spouting v.loc.ty （Ums） is one of the most important flow c.arac.eristic. for proper design and operation of spouted bed reac.ors. Many c.rrelations for Ums hav. been published sinc. spouted bed tec.nology was initiated in 1955. In this paper, a new c.rrelation is dev.loped for Ums based on 767 published experimental data c.v.ring both high pressure and high temperature c.nditions. The c.lc.lated and the measured results of Ums are in better agreement than other published c.rrelations.
