Objective:We describe the first-year implementation experience of an Instrumented Sensory Integration Therapy program in Audiological&Balance Center ***:This is a retrospective descriptive *** included Seventy-three adults with diagnoses of acute,episodic,or chronic vestibular *** were classified into the following two groups:group 1 included 46 individuals treated with ISIT plus VRT,and group 2 included 27 individuals treated only with ***:The Sensory Organization Test(SOT)for both groups showed a statistical significance for all three sensory inputs;visual systems(G1:p=0.0003;G2:p=0.0337),vestibular system(G1:pp=0.0003),and balance as demonstrated by compound balance score(G1:pp=0.0035),and balance percentage deficit(G1:pp=0.0078).Conclusions:The severity and complexity of functional neurological disorders in the context of vestibular syndromes seem to require between 10 and 20 therapy sessions,and combined ISIT plus VRT appears to be more effective than ISIT as a monotherapy.

AIM: To evaluate the cellular synthetic ability of cytokines involved in pro- and anti-inflammatory reactions in patients with ***: Sixty-seven patients with Ap (16 severe,51 mild) and 10 controls were included in the *** of whole blood were performed in samples obtained within the first 72 h from the onset of *** levels of interleukins (IL) 6, 8, 10, and TNF-α were measured at baseline and in the supernatant of cultures with (functional reserve) or without stimulation with ***: Basal levels of cytokines were significantly higher in patients with severe Ap. A significant increase of all pro-inflammatory cytokines vs basal levels was observed in the supernatant after 24 h of whole blood cultures in patients, but not in controls. In contrast, IL-10 increased significantly in the supernatant of cultures only in patients with mild Ap. Cells showed a statistically significant functional reserve for all IL in patients with mild, but only for pro-inflammatory cytokines in patients with severe ***: A marked activation of immune system may be observed in patients with Ap, being balanced between pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines in patients with mild but not severe Ap. A reduced functional reserve for the synthesis of IL-10 may be observed in patients with severe Ap, which might lead to a worst prognosis.

MicroRNAs(miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that regulate multiple physiological and pathological functions through the modulation of gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. Accumulating evidence has established a role for miRNAs in the development and pathogenesis of liver disease. Specifically, a large number of studies have assessed the role of miRNAsin alcoholic liver disease(ALD) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD), two diseases that share common underlying mechanisms and pathological characteristics. The purpose of the current review is to summarize and update the body of literature investigating the role of miRNAs in liver disease. In addition, the potential use of miRNAs as biomarkers and/or therapeutic targets is discussed. Among all miRNAs analyzed, miR-34 a, miR-122 and miR-155 are most involved in the pathogenesis of NAFLD. Of note, these three miRNAs have also been implicated in ALD, reinforcing a common disease mechanism between these two entities and the pleiotropic effects of specific miRNAs. Currently, no single miRNA or panel of miRNAs has been identified for the detection of, or staging of ALD or NAFLD. While promising results have been shown in murine models, no therapeutic based-miRNA agents have been developed for use in humans with liver disease.

Alcohol consumption and hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection have a synergic hepatotoxic effect, and the coexistence of these factors increases the risk of advanced liver disease. The main mechanisms of this effect are increased viral replication and altered immune response, although genetic predisposition may also play an important role. Traditionally, HCV prevalence has been considered to be higher(up to 50%) in alcoholic patients than in the general po pulation. However, the presence of advanc e d alcoholic liver disease(ALD) or intravenous drug use(IDU) may have confounded the results of previous studies, and the real prevalence of HCV infection in alcoholic patients without ALD or prior IDU has been shown to be lower. Due to the toxic combined effect of HCV and alcohol, patients with HCV infection should be screened for excessive ethanol intake. patients starting treatment for HCV infection should be specifically advised to stop or reduce alcohol consumption because of its potential impact on treatment efficacy and adherence and may benefi t from addi tionalsupport during antiviral therapy. This recommendation might be extended to all currently recommended drugs for HCV treatment. patients with alcohol dependence and HCV infection, can be treated with acamprosate, nalmefene, topiramate, and disulfiram, although baclofen is the only drug specifically tested for this purpose in patients with ALD and/or HCV infection.

The strategies implemented to identify pathogenic strains of Salmonella in countries with high production and consumption when is of chicken meat [such as Mexico), successfully bring germ-free meat to the market. Two Salmonella enterica enterica strains obtained from Mexican chicken meat were completely sequenced. The genomic comparison with the CT18 Salmonella strain indicates that strains 103 and 2199 vary by 1.9%. Genome analysis of the isolated strains revealed the presence of numerous virulence genes, as well as antibiotics resistance genes in these two isolates. Their potential pathogenicity was inferred from presence of 22 (103 strains) and 19 genes (2199 strains) homologous to the one annotated in Salmonella enterica virulome databanks. The characterization of these strains will contribute to successful Salmonella monitoring in Mexico.

Effect of Aerobic Exercise on protein Expression in Muscle of Obese Mexican Adolescents: A proteomic and Bioinformatic Analysis

The beneficial effects of exercise have been recognized for many years yet the molecular mechanisms by which exercise show benefits on health are still elusive. A combination of experimental and bioinformatics approaches can be an invaluable tool to increase the cellular understanding of the molecular mechanisms that underlie the aerobic exercise in obese adolescents. Muscle skeletal proteins were separated by 2D-pAGE and changes in protein expression were revealed by ImageMaster 2D platinum analysis software. proteins with expression changes after aerobic exercise were identified by comparison with 2D maps from SWISS-2DpAGE and interactions of proteins were analyzed with STRING and DAVID databases. After aerobic exercise, all participants decreased glucose, insulin, total cholesterol, body mass index and waist circumference. proteomic differential analysis revealed 10 overexpressed proteins after aerobic training, which correspond to carbonic anhydrase III, beta enolase, creatine kinase, ATp synthase beta subunit, aldolase A, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, triosephosphate isomerase, pyruvate kinase, lactate dehydrogenase and adenylate kinase. Exercise increased glycolysis and oxidative phosphorylation pathways, which is likely to be regulated by ubiquitin c protein. In conclusion, our analysis suggested that obese adolescents show changes in their body mass index, waist circumference and serum glucose after aerobic exercise through improved protein expression patterns that aid, especially, glucose metabolism and increase the oxidative phosphorylation. The most likely explanation for the observed pattern is that ubiquitin c protein keeps the glycolytic enzymes bound within skeletal muscle, obtaining a non-degradative role in cell signaling.

AIM To compare the prevalence of chronic liver disease(CLD) risk factors in a representative sample of MexicanAmericans born in the United States(US) or Mexico, to a sample of adults in *** Data for Mexican-Americans in the US were obtained from the 1999-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES), which includes persons of Mexican origin living in the US(n = 4274). The NHANES sample was restricted to Mexican-American participants who were 20 years and older, born in the US or Mexico, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and with medical *** data in Mexico were obtained from the 2004-2013 Health Worker Cohort Study in Cuernavaca, Mexico(n =9485). The following known risk factors for liver disease/cancer were evaluated: elevated aminotransferase levels(elevated alanine aminotransferase was defined as > 40 IU/L for males and females; elevated aspartate aminotransferase was defined as > 40 IU/L for males and females), infection with hepatitis B or hepatitis C,metabolic syndrome, high total cholesterol, diabetes,obesity, abdominal obesity, and heavy alcohol use. The main independent variables for this study classified individuals by country of residence(i.e., Mexico vs the US) and place of birth(i.e., US-born vs Mexico-born).Regression analyses were used to investigate CLD risk *** After adjusting for socio-demographic characteristics,Mexican-American males were more likely to be obese,diabetic, heavy/binge drinkers or have abdominal obesity than males in Mexico. The adjusted multivariate results for females also indicate that Mexican-American females were significantly more likely to be obese, diabetic, be heavy/binge drinkers or have abdominal obesity than Mexican females. The prevalence ratios and prevalence differences mirror the multivariate analysis findings for the aforementioned risk factors, showing a greater risk among US-born as compared to Mexico-born MexicanAmericans. Fibromyalgia (FM) is a complex, chronic condition, which causes widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue and a variety of other symptoms. Many polymorphisms related to neuroendocrine system function as the ApoE isoforms, Val158Met polymorphism in COMT, as well as a 44 bp deletion located in 5-HTTLpR, have been studied. Other polymorphisms have been related to inflammatory response such as the 70 bp VNTR in IL-4 or to citokine levels. Furthermore, some studies focused on finding out new FM related SNps, have been performed by genome wide association scan (GWAS). The target of this work was to study a possible linkage of a collagen type I polymorphism (COL1A1 rs180012 SNp) affecting bone mineralization, with fibromyalgia. Results obtained show a clear association of ss homozygous genotype with FM patients no dependent on bone mineralization.
