Nutritional supplementation has long been studied as a possible treatment alternative or as an adjunct to the standard treatments for common ailments and *** to the latest research,the Chilean maqui berry,Aristotelia chilensis,has been shown to reduce postprandial insulin levels by as much as fifty *** berry,which has been shown to be as effective as metformin at increasing insulin sensitivity and controlling blood glucose levels,follows a simple mechanism of action that involves the inhibition of sodium dependent glucose transporters in the small intestine,slowing the rate at which sugars enter the bloodstream and thereby decreasing blood sugar spikes and the corresponding increase in insulin *** high blood glucose levels have been proven to play a significant role in the development of cancers,as diabetics and prediabetics have been proven to have elevated risk of developing cancerous *** dietary supplementation with maqui berry may therefore indirectly reduce the risk of cancer,as well as other diseases which respond negatively to hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinemia.

The outcomes of pars plana vitrectomy without endotamponade for tractional retinal detachment secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy

AIM:To evaluate the outcomes of pars plana vitrectomy(PPV) without the use of an ocular tamponade in patients having tractional retinal detachment(TRD) secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR).METHODS:It was an interventional study conducted at the Department of Ophthalmology,***,Bahawalpur,Pakistan,from July 2011 to July 2012.A total of 75 patients(84 eyes) having TRD secondary to PDR were treated by PPV without using an ocular *** patients included in the study had a tractional retinal detachement secondary to proliferative diabetic retinopathy but didn’t have or develop retinal breaks before or during the study *** surgical procedure included a PPV combined with the removal of the tractional retinal membranes and the application of endolaser photocoagulation to the *** mean follow-up period was 12 months. RESULTS:Successful retinal reattachement was observed in 78 of the operated eyes(92.8%).In these patients,the retina remained attached till the end of the one year follow-up *** in best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) was seen in 63 eyes(75%).The visual acuity remained unchanged in 9 eyes(10.7%).Mean improvement in BCVA was 2.00 +1.24 at baseline to 1.24+1.22(P<0.05) at the end of the followup ***:In the absence of the retinal breaks,a TRD secondary to PDR can be successfully treated by pars plana vitrectomy without the use of an ocular tamponade.

Enhanced room temperature ferromagnetism in Cr-doped ZnO nanoparticles prepared by auto-combustion method

Zn1-xCrxO （x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07, and 0.09） nanoparticles were synthesized, by an auto-com- bustion method. Structural, optical, and magnetic characteristics of Cr-doped ZnO samples calcined at 600 ℃ have been analyzed by using X-ray diffraction （XRD）, field emission scanning electron microscope （FESEM）, UV-Vis spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer （VSM）. The XRD data confirmed the hexagonal wurtzite structure of pure and Cr-doped ZnO nanoparticles. The calculated values of grain size using Scherrer＇s formula are in the range of 30.7-9.2 nm. The morphology of nanopowders has been observed by FESEM, and EDS results con- firmed a systematic increase of Cr content in the samples and clearly indicate with no impurity element. The band gaps, computed by UV-Vis spectroscopy, are in the range of 2.83-2.35 eV for different doping concentrations. By analyzing VSM data, significantly enhanced room temperature ferromagnetism is identified in Cr-doped ZnO samples. The value of magnetization is a 12 times increased of the value reported by Daun et al. （2010）. Room temperature ferromagnetism of the nanoparticles is of vital prominence for spintronics applications.

Machine-to-machine (M2M) communication plays a fundamental role in autonomous IoT (Internet of Things)-based infrastructure, a vital part of the fourth industrial revolution. Machine-type communication devices(MTCDs) regularly share extensive data without human intervention while making all types of decisions. Thesedecisions may involve controlling sensitive ventilation systems maintaining uniform temperature, live heartbeatmonitoring, and several different alert systems. Many of these devices simultaneously share data to form anautomated system. The data shared between machine-type communication devices (MTCDs) is prone to risk dueto limited computational power, internal memory, and energy capacity. Therefore, securing the data and devicesbecomes challenging due to factors such as dynamic operational environments, remoteness, harsh conditions,and areas where human physical access is difficult. One of the crucial parts of securing MTCDs and data isauthentication, where each devicemust be verified before data transmission. SeveralM2Mauthentication schemeshave been proposed in the literature, however, the literature lacks a comprehensive overview of current M2Mauthentication techniques and the challenges associated with them. To utilize a suitable authentication schemefor specific scenarios, it is important to understand the challenges associated with it. Therefore, this article fillsthis gap by reviewing the state-of-the-art research on authentication schemes in MTCDs specifically concerningapplication categories, security provisions, and performance efficiency.

The effects of gravitomagnetic force on plasma oscillations are investigated using the kinetic theory of homogeneous electrically neutral plasma in the absence of external electric or magnetic field. The random phase assumption is employed neglecting the thermal motion of the electrons with respect to a fixed ion background. It is found that the gravitomagnetic force reduces the characteristic frequency of the plasma thus enhancing the refractive index of the medium. The estimates for the predicted effects are given for a typical white dwarf, pulsar, and neutron star.

Interactions of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) with metal chlorides (MgCl 2 , CaCl 2 , KCl and BaCl 2 ) have been investigated by viscometric and spectrophotometric techniques in aqueous solutions. Intrinsic viscosity [η] of (PVP) has shown a discontinuity with varying concentration of metal chlorides. The decreasing order of effectiveness of cation is K 1+ > Ca 2+ > Mg 2+ > Ba 2+ for poly(vinylpyrrolidone) solution. Changes in the absorption spectra of the cosolutes were observed in the presence of PVP in the lower limit of the UV-visible region i.e. 200-210 nm. These changes were attributed to interaction of PVP molecules with the cosolute molecules. As the concentration of the cosolute increased, a red shift in the peaks was observed, indicating an increase in interaction between PVP and cosolutes.
