Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis:risk factors and causative organisms

Objective:To determine the prevalent pathogens responsible for spontaneous bacterial peritonitis(SBP) and their sensitivity pattern,to test the efficiency of different culture techniques in microbial isolation,and to study the diagnostic predictors of such ***:One hundred eight SBP episodes from 92 adult patients were compared to 88 cirrhotic ascites patients cross - matched with age and sex without *** fluid was subjected to cytological,biochemical examination and culture on both conventional and blood culture bottles at the bedside for bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility ***:The prevalence of SBP was 25.02%.Logistic regression analysis revealed that;previous SBP episode,low ascitic fluid protein levels, high serum creatinine and low serum albumin levels were the independent significant predictors of *** forty - five per cent of SBP episodes were detected by conventional culture compared to 73.15%by modified technique with a significant *** - negative bacteria were the cause of SBP in 46(58.23%) culture positive *** coli and Staphylococcus aureus were the most commonly detected organisms. Resistance to different antibiotics was ***:Culture of ascitic fluid in blood culture bottles at bedside increases the sensitivity of SBP *** is a recent increase in Gram - positive pathogen with emergence of multidrug *** recent changes may have an impact on guidelines for management and treatment of SBP in our locality.

Modern comprehensive study of the W UMa system TY Boo

New three color light curves of TY Boo were acquired during five nights from February to May 2006 in the BVR bandpass using a 50-cm F/8.4 Ritchey- Chr6tien telescope （Ba50） at the Baja Astronomical Observatory （Hungary）, with a 512×512 Apogee AP-7 CCD camera. A photometric solution of these light curves was obtained by means of the Wilson-Devinney code. The results showed that the less massive component is hotter than the more massive one, and the temperature difference between the components is △T -249 K. Long term investigation of the system based on all available data shows two stages of increase and a similar trend for decrease, which appears to be periodic behavior. A set of new light elements yields a new period （P = 0.3171506d） and shows a periodic decrease with the rate dP/dE -- 5.858×10^-12 d cycle-1, 6.742×10^-9 d yr-1 or 0.058 s century-1. The evolutionary status of the system is discussed.

Influence of chemical reaction on heat and mass transfer of non-Newtonian fluid with yield stress by free convection from vertical surface in porous medium considering Soret effect

The effect of chemical reaction on free convection heat and mass transfer for a non-Newtonian power law fluid over a vertical flat plate embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium has been studied in the presence of the yield stress and the Soret effect. The governing boundary layer equations and boundary conditions are cast into a dimen- sionless form by similarity transformations, and the resulting system of equations is solved by a finite difference method. The results are preSented and discussed for concentration profiles, as well as the Nusselt number and the Sherwood number for various values of the parameters, which govern the problem. The results obtained show that the flow field is influenced appreciably by the presence of the chemical reaction parameter γ the order *** chemical reaction parameter m, the Soret number St, the buoyancy ratio N, the Lewis number Le, and the dimensionless rheological parameter Ω.

Flavonoid chemical composition and antidiabetic potential of Brachychiton acerifolius leaves extract

Objective:To evaluate Brachychiton acerifolius leaf extracts as antidiabetic potential agent and to identify the main active constituents using bioactivity guided ***:In vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated for *** different extracts using DPPH assay and vitamin C as *** activity was then determined using STZ-induced rats treated daily with ethyl acetate and 70% ethanol leaf extracts for4 weeks at a dose of 200 g/kg body weight against gliclazide reference *** glucose,a-amylase,lipid profile,liver function enzymes and oxidative stress markers were assessed along with histopathological study for liver and pancreatic *** and structural elucidation of active compounds were made using Diaion and Sephadex followed by spectral ***:The results indicated that ethyl acetate and ethanol leaf extracts exhibited the strongest antioxidant activity compared to that of vitamin C(IC500.05,0.03 and 12 mg/m L,respectively).Both extracts showed potent anti-hyperglycemic activity evidenced by a significant decrease in serum glucose levels by 82.5% and 80.9% and a-amylase by45.2% and 53.6%,as compared with gliclazide 68% and 59.4%,*** of ethanol extract resulted in the isolation of 9 flavonoids including apigenin-7-O-arhamnosyl(1/2)-b-D-glucuronide,apigenin-7-O-b-D-glucuronide,apigenin-7-O-b-Dglucoside and ***:This study highlights the potential use of *** leaf extract enriched in flavones for the treatment of diabetes that would warrant further clinical trials investigation.

We propose a relaxation rate or dissipative cavity-based parameters that can be used as indicators of the stationary limit of a mixed state geometric phase. We perform our considerations for the system of a superconducting qubit in an open transmission line or interacting with a dissipative cavity. This system is very useful for performing an effective quantum computation by exhibiting the long collapse time of the geometric phase. It is shown that the geometric phase in the stationary limit does not depend on interaction time if the decay time exceeds an upper bound.

A target is assumed to move according to a Brownian motion on the real line. The searcher starts from the origin and moves in the two directions from the starting point. The object is to detect the target. The purpose of this paper is to find the conditions under which the expected value of the first meeting time of the searcher and the target is finite, and to show the existence of a search plan which made this expected value minimum.

Transportation Characteristics Change under Rapid Urban Expansion:A Case Study of Shanghai

This paper focuses on the economic development and urban morphology as well as its impact on the transportation system during the urban expansion of Shanghai in the last more than 20 years(1986-2008).Based on data from 3 comprehensive transport surveys of Shanghai since 1986,the changes in residential trip demand,vehicle use,and the spatial distribution of trips were studied to understand the demands on the transportation *** factors contributing to those changes in transportation demand were discussed,by which the conclusions were arrived:1) economic development promotes population growth and stimulates residential trip demand greatly;2) unsynchronized migration of population and job from central district to periphery district of Shanghai make trips and congestion diffuse in the same way;and 3) urban sprawl from a city center encourages the single-occupant vehicle mode,which imposes greater pressure on the roadway *** is concluded that urban development should coordinate with the transportation system planning and expansion.

Improvement of the shelf life of grey mullet (Mugil cephalus) fish steaks using edible coatings containing chitosan, nanochitosan, and clove oil during refrigerated storage

The effects of edible coatings made of chitosan, or chitosan nanoparticles, and their combinations with clove oil on the physical, chemical, microbiological, and sensory properties of grey mullet (Mugil cephalus) steaks during refriger-ated storage (4 °C) for 24 days were evaluated. The data indicated that metrics for all of these characteristics were improved significantly (P ≤ 0.05) in coated fish steak samples compared to the control sample. The coated steaks texture values were higher than those of control sample through storage time with nanochitosan coating containing clove oil having best value 2.51 kg/cm2 among tested samples at the end of storage period. However, pH values of coated samples were lower, a good indicator, than corresponding one of the control (6.46) with nanochitosan coatings with or without clove oil showed low mean values (6.11-6.13). Similar trend regarding chemical indices, i.e. total volatile basic-nitrogen, trimethylamine, peroxide, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances values for samples coated with nanochitosan with or without clove oil giving better lower values than control or other treatments. Also, the coating delayed microbial (aerobic plate count, psychrotrophic bacteria, yeasts and molds, and total coliform bacteria) growth during the refrigeration storage period, and coated samples produced better results compared to the control sample. Sensory evaluations showed that the treatment enhanced the scores of fish steak samples compared to the control. The results showed that a nanochitosan coating with clove oil was the best treatment prolonged the shelf life of mullet steaks and efficiently maintained the quality attributes to an acceptable level during refrigerated storage for 24 days. Thus, these findings can be bases for producer to provide consumers with fresh fish steaks with good shelf life at refrigerated temperature for up to 24 days.

Objective:To evaluated the histological changes within the tegument of adult Fasciola gigantica(***)that led to the gross changes that were visible ***:The effects of oleoresin extract of myrrh(Mirazid^(?)),myrrh volatile oil and triclabendazole sulphoxide(reference drug)on the tegumental structure of adult *** following treatment in vitro had been determined by light ***:The internal changes in the tegument observed in this study were compatible with surface changes seen in the previous scanning electron microscopy study,using the same *** swelling of tegumental syncytium was a particular feature of their action,but its level was much greater with myrrh volatile oil,in which vacuolization of the tegument and loss of spines were ***:The present study demonstrated the fasciocidal properties of Mirazid^(?)oleoresin extract,and it might be possible to reinforce its fasciocidal activity by increasing its content of myrrh volatile oil.
