Analysis and Characterization of Pore System and Grain Sizes of Carbonate Rocks from Southern Lebanon

Carbonate rocks are common in many parts of the world, including the Eastern Mediterranean, where they host significant groundwater supplies and are widely used as building and ornamental stones. The porosity of carbonate rocks plays a critical role in fluid storage and retrieval. The pore structure connectivity, in particular, controls many properties of geological formations, as well as the relationships between the properties of individual minerals and the bulk properties of the rock. To study the relationships between porosity, rock properties, pore structure, pore size, and their impact on reservoir characteristics, 46 carbonate rock samples were collected from four stratigraphic sections exposed near Sidon, South Lebanon. The studied carbonate rocks are related to marine deposits of different ages(e.g., Upper Cretaceous, Eocene, and Upper Miocene). In order to understand the pore connectivity, the MICP(mercury injection capillary pressure) technique was conducted on ten representative samples. Results from the SEM analysis indicate the dominance of very fine and fine pore sizes, with various categories ranging in diameter from 0.1 to10 μm. The MICP data revealed that the pore throat radii vary widely from 0.001 to 1.4 μm, and that all samples are dominated by micropore throats. The grain size analysis indicated that the studied rocks have significant amounts of silt-and clay-size grains with respect to the coarser ‘sand-size’ particles, suggesting a high proportion of microporosity. Obtained results, such as the poorly-sorted nature of grains, high microporosity, and the high percentage of micropore throats, justify the observed low mean hydraulic radius, the high entry pressure, and the very low permeability of the studied samples. These results suggest that the carbonate rocks near Sidon(south of Lebanon) are possibly classified as non-reservoir facies.

Objective:To evaluate the essential oils(EO) composition,antimicrobial and antioxidant power of a local plant,Daucus gracilis(***).Methods:The aerial parts of *** were subjected to hydro distillation by a Clevenger apparatus type to obtain the EO which had been analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry,and screened for antimicrobial activity against five bacteria and three fungi by agar diffusion *** mechanism of action of the EO was determined on the susceptible strains by both of time kill assay and lysis *** minimal inhibitory concentrations were determined by agar macrodilution and micro-dilution ***-oxidative properties of the EO were also studied by free diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging and reducing power ***:The EO yielded 0.68(v/w).The chemical analysis presented two dominant constituents which were the elemicin(35.3%) and the geranyl acetate(26.8%).*** EO inhibited the growth of Bacillus cereus and Proteus mirabilis significantly with minimal inhibitory concentrations of 17.15 μg/mL by the agar dilution method and57.05 μg/mL and 114.1 μg/mL,respectively by liquid micro-dilution.A remarkable decrease in a survival rate as well as in the absorbance in 260 nm was recorded,which suggested that the cytoplasm membrane was one of the targets of the *** EO showed,also,important anti-oxidative effects with an IC50 of 0.002 mg/mL and a dosedependent reducing ***:*** EO showed potent antimicrobial and anti-oxidative activities and had acted on the cytoplasm *** activities could be exploited in the food industry for food preservation.

Dolomite apatite separation by amphoteric collector in presence of bacteria

This paper focuses on the unsupervised detection of the Higgs boson particle using the most informative features and variables which characterize the“Higgs machine learning challenge 2014”data *** unsupervised detection goes in this paper analysis through 4 steps:(1)selection of the most informative features from the considered data;(2)definition of the number of clusters based on the elbow *** experimental results showed that the optimal number of clusters that group the considered data in an unsupervised manner corresponds to 2 clusters;(3)proposition of a new approach for hybridization of both hard and fuzzy clustering tuned with Ant Lion Optimization(ALO);(4)comparison with some existing metaheuristic optimizations such as Genetic Algorithm(GA)and Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO).By employing a multi-angle analysis based on the cluster validation indices,the confusion matrix,the efficiencies and purities rates,the average cost variation,the computational time and the Sammon mapping visualization,the results highlight the effectiveness of the improved Gustafson-Kessel algorithm optimized withALO(ALOGK)to validate the proposed *** if the paper gives a complete clustering analysis,its novel contribution concerns only the Steps(1)and(3)considered *** first contribution lies in the method used for Step(1)to select the most informative features and *** used the t-Statistic technique to rank ***,a feature mapping is applied using Self-Organizing Map(SOM)to identify the level of correlation between ***,Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO),a metaheuristic optimization technique,is used to reduce the data set *** second contribution of thiswork concern the third step,where each one of the clustering algorithms as K-means(KM),Global K-means(GlobalKM),Partitioning AroundMedoids(PAM),Fuzzy C-means(FCM),Gustafson-Kessel(GK)and Gath-Geva(GG)is optimized and tuned with ALO.

With the innovation of microelectronics technology, the heat dissipation problem inside the device will face a severe test. In this work, cellulose aerogel(CA) with highly enhanced thermal conductivity(TC) in vertical planes was successfully obtained by constructing a vertically aligned silicon carbide nanowires(SiC NWs)/boron nitride(BN) network via the ice template-assisted strategy. The unique network structure of SiC NWs connected to BN ensures that the TC of the composite in the vertical direction reaches 2.21 W m^(-1) K^(-1) at a low hybrid filler loading of 16.69 wt%, which was increased by 890% compared to pure epoxy(EP). In addition, relying on unique porous network structure of CA, EP-based composite also showed higher TC than other comparative samples in the horizontal direction. Meanwhile, the composite exhibits good electrically insulating with a volume electrical resistivity about 2.35 × 10^(11) Ω cm and displays excellent electromagnetic wave absorption performance with a minimum reflection loss of-21.5 dB and a wide effective absorption bandwidth(ellent multifunctional performances in microelectronic packaging applications.

Prophylactic effect of vitamin E against hepatotoxicity,nephrotoxicity,haematological indices and histopathology induced by diazinon insecticide in mice

Considering that the involvement of reactive oxygen species(ROS)has been implicated in the toxicity of various pesticides,this study was designed to study the ameliorative effect of Vitamin E(100 mg/kg body weight)on mice(25-30 mg)treated with diazinon(32.5 or 16.25 mg/kg body weight)organophosphate insecticide for 14 *** DZN exposure and the protective effects of vitamins E(vitE)were evaluated for their effects on haematological indices,the enzymes concerning liver damage [plasma alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotaransferase(AST),alkaline phosphatise(ALP),and some parameters of kidney function(urea and creatinine)in ***,the histopathological changes in liver and kidney tissue were *** high dose of diazinon(DZNH)decreased the body weight significantly at the end of ***,the liver and kidney were examines for histopathological *** high dose of diazinon decreased body weight ***,there was a statistically significant decrease in haemoglobin(Hb),red blood cell(RBC)and hematocrit(Hct)in diazinon-treated mice compared to *** decrease was partially remedied in the diazinon-treated group that also received *** in the liver and kidney tissues was also evident as elevated plasma ALT,AST,ALP,urea and *** partially counteracts the toxic effect of DZN and repairs tissue damage in the liver and kidney,especially when supplemented to 1/4 LD_ 50 intoxicated *** changes in liver and kidney were observed only in 32.5 mg/kg DZN given *** results suggest that the effects of DZN are dose *** pathological findings were observed in vitE + DZN-treated *** to the present study,we conclude that vitE can reduce the detrimental impacts of diazinon on haematological indicies,as well as liver and kidney function.

The effect of cryotherapy application before versus after subcutaneous anticoagulant injection on pain intensity and hematoma formation: A quasi-experimental design

Objective:To investigate the effect of cryotherapy application before versus after subcutaneous anticoagulant injection(SCAI)on pain intensity and hematoma ***:A quasi-experimental design was utilized.A convenient sample of 105 adult patients,who were admitted to one of the biggest teaching hospitals in Cairo and receiving SCAI,were recruited over a period of six *** were randomly allocated into three groups:A Control group who received the routine hospital care(G1,n=35)and two intervention group who received cryotherapy for 5-min(G2:cryotherapy applied before SCAI,n=35;G3:cryotherapy applied after SCAI,n=35).Demographic and medical history data sheet,Pain Numeric Rating Scale and Hematoma Formation and Size Assessment Scale were used to collect the ***:The pain intensity among the patients in the two intervention groups(G2:Median=1.0;G3:Median=0)was significantly lower than in the control group(G1,Median=3.0).No significant difference was found between G2 and G3(P=0.728).Applying cryotherapy after SCAI(G3)decreased the frequency of hematoma formation(48hrs=31.4%&72hrs=28.5%)compared to applying it before injection(G2,100%)or not applying it(G1,100%).The size of hematoma in G3 was smaller than that in G2(P<0.01).Conclusion:Applying cryotherapy significantly decreased pain intensity and hematoma occurrence/*** cryotherapy after injection was more effective in preventing hematoma formation and decreasing its size than applying it before injection.
