A Study of Spot Welding of Advanced High Strength Steels for Automotive Applications

The application of advanced high strength steels in automotive industry has highlighted the need for research into spot weldability of these *** weld lobe diagrams,the spot weldability of dP600 steel was found to be poor with conventional weld *** enhanced weld schedule consisting of two pulses with reduced current on the second pulse gave a substantial increase in the lobe width;the first pulse removed the zinc coating and the second pulse controlled the nugget growth.A data acquisition system was designed to monitor weld expulsion during the weld *** the three possible control strategies proposed,especially with AC welding equipment,the dynamic resistance signal is easily obtained and the least *** phenomena,microstructural characterization and mechanical properties of spot-welded hot dipped galvanized dP600 steel and interstitial free steel were *** work on dissimilar welds in dP 600 and HSLA 350 was also conducted with emphasis on tensile and fatigue properties and fracture *** performance of dissimilar spot welds was different from that of the similar spot welds in each of the HSLA350 and dP600 *** dP600 weld properties played a dominating role in the hardness and tensile properties of the dissimilar spot ***,the fatigue performance of the dissimilar welds was similar to that of the HSLA *** will be presented at the conference.

Integrated Weed Management Through Tillage and Herbicides for Wheat Production in Rice-Wheat Cropping System in Northwestern Pakistan

Conservational tillage （CT） in combination with broad spectrum herbicide may be more efficient and economical in controlling weeds, reducing cost of cultivation, and enhancing wheat yield. Field experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of tillage and herbicides on weeds and wheat yield under rice-wheat cropping system （RWCS）. The results indicated that broad spectrum herbicides particularly, carfentrazone ethyl ester＋ isoproturon （Affinity 50 WdG） reduced weeds density by 93 and 95% compared to control and also produced the maximum grain yield （6 818 and 6 996 kg ha-l） and HI （harvest index, 44.7 and 44.6%） in 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 growing seasons, respectively. The maximum weeds infestation and the lowest yield were recorded in control. Tillage methods significantly influenced grain yield and HI, while no significant effect on all other parameters. The overall mean yield was significantly higher in zero tillage （5 575 kg ha-l） and reduced tillage （5 584 kg ha-l） compared to CT （5 479 kg ha-^-1）. Besides increasing wheat yield, Affinity 50 WdG and zero tillage are important weed management practices that can be integrated into wheat production in RWCS. However, in case of perennial weeds or insect pests＇ infestation, CT in combination with Affinity 50 WdG would be more productive than conservation tillage.

Boris numerical scheme due to its long-time stability,accuracy and conservative properties has been widely applied in many studies of magnetized *** algorithms conserve the phase space volume and hence provide accurate charge particle ***,this algorithm does not conserve the energy in some special electromagnetic configurations,particularly for long simulation ***,we empirically analyze the energy behavior of Boris algorithm by applying it to a 2d autonomous *** energy behavior of the Boris method is found to be strongly related to the integrability of our Hamiltonian *** find that if the invariant tori is preserved under Boris discretization,the energy error can be bounded for an exponentially long time,otherwise the said error will show a linear *** the contrary,for a non-integrable Hamiltonian system,a random walk pattern has been observed in the energy error.

A Seismic Hazard Map Based on Geology and Shear-wave Velocity in Rawalpindi–Islamabad,Pakistan

The‘twin cities’district of Rawalpindi–Islamabad is among the most endangered seismic regions in Pakistan,with the seismic hazard assessed(0.32 g)to intensity IX MMI for a 475-year return period.A seismic hazard map for Rawalpindi–Islamabad is presented herein,based on 85 shear-wave velocity(VS)profiles obtained through geophysical H/V measurements and from the geological map of the *** between the average top thirty-meter shear-wave velocities(VS30)and surficial geological units have been *** peak ground acceleration(PGA)maps for 150,475 and 2475-year return periods were converted into a seismic intensity *** increments for different soils were used to compute PGA values for 150,475 and 2475-year return *** located on softer ground experienced a higher degree of damage from moderate *** to the presence of soft clay or liquefiable soil and lateral spreading,a few locations may be classified as hybrid sites class C and *** map is a critical step in facilitating code-based site classification and seismic design throughout Rawalpindi–*** the seismic hazard map based on seismic intensities is no longer used in engineering geology,it is still important in seismological analysis and for civil protection purposes.

Exact solutions for unsteady flow of second grade fluid generated by oscillating wall with transpiration

A problem of unsteady flow of a second grade fluid over flat plates with the impulsive and oscillating motion, starting from rest, and with the wall transpiration is considered. The exact solutions are derived by the Laplace transform, the perturbation techniques, and an extension of the variable separation technique together with similarity arguments. These solutions are written as the sum between the permanent solutions and the transient solutions. The variations of fluid behaviors with various physical parameters are shown graphically and analyzed. The results are validated by comparing the limiting cases of the present paper with the results of the related published articles.

Time stepping in discontinuous Galerkin method

The time discretization in the discontinuous Galerkin （dG） scheme has been traditionally based on the Total Variation diminishing （TVd） second-order Runge-Kutta （RK2） scheme. Computational efficiency and accuracy with the Euler Forward （EF） and the TVd second-order RK2 time stepping schemes in the dG method are investigated in this work. Numerical tests are condu- cted with the scalar Burgers equation, 1-d and 2-d shallow water flow equations. The maximum Courant number or time step size required for stability for the EF scheme and RK2 scheme with different slope limiters are compared. Numerical results show that the slope limiters affect the stability requirement in the dG method. The RK2 scheme is generally more diffusive than the EF scheme, and the RK2 scheme allows larger time step sizes. The EF scheme is found to be more efficient and accurate than the RK2 scheme in the dG method in computation.

Synergistic antibacterial effect of honey and Herba Ocimi Basilici against some bacterial pathogens

OBJECTIVE： To evaluate the antibacterial activity of the combination of different honey brands and methanolic fraction of Herba Ocimi Basilici using agar well diffusion assay. METHOdS： The antibacterial activity was deter- mined against thirteen pathogenic bacterial clini- cal isolates including six gram negative （Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella typhimirium, Xanthomonas campestris） and six gram positive strains （Enterococcus faecalis faecalis, Bacillus subti- lis, Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium perfringens type C, Clostridium perfringens type d, CIostridium chauvoei）. Agar well diffusion method was used while zones of inhibition were measured with verni- er scale. RESULTS： At higher concentration, all the honey brands showed good to significant activity. Thehighest activity was observed for Hamdard brand honey （27.60±0.40） against Enterococcus faecalis. CONCLUSION： These results revealed that combi- nations of plant extracts of Herba Ocimi Basilici with honey can be used for the development of potent and novel antibacterial agents.

Smart home devices are vulnerable to a variety of *** matter gets more complicated when a number of devices collaborate to launch a colluding attack(e.g.,distributed-denial-of-Service(ddoS))in a network(e.g.,Smart home).To handle these attacks,most studies have hitherto proposed authentication protocols that cannot necessarily be implemented in devices,especially during device-to-device(d2d)*** into the potential of Ethereum blockchain and smart contracts,this work proposes a lightweight authentication mechanism that enables safe d2d interactions in a smart *** Ethereum blockchain enables the implementation of a decentralized prototype as well as a peer-to-peer distributed ledger *** work also uses a single server queuing system model and the authentication mechanism to curtail ddoS attacks by controlling the number of service requests in the *** simulation was conducted twenty times,each with varying number of devices chosen at random(ranging from 1 to 30).Each requester device sends an arbitrary request with a unique resource requirement at a *** is done to measure the system's consistency across a variety of device *** experimental results show that the proposed protocol not only prevents colluding attacks,but also outperforms the benchmark protocols in terms of computational cost,message processing,and response times.

Role of salivary matrix metalloproteinase-8 （MMP-8） in chronic periodontitis diagnosis

Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the periodontium. Any imbalance between the matrix metalloproteinases （MMPs） secreted by neutrophils and tissue inhibitors initiates the destruction of collagen in gum tissue, leading to chronic periodontitis. This study aimed to correlate salivary levels of MMP-8 and periodontal parameters of chronic periodontitis to establish MMP-8 as a noninvasive marker for the early diagnosis of chronic periodontitis. The study involved 40 subjects visiting the periodontic OPd of dr. Ziauddin ahm.d dental College and Hospital, located in Aligarh, U.P., India, from 2011 to 2012. The subjects were divided into two groups： group I consisted of 20 periodontally healthy subjects （controls） while group II consisted of 20 patients with chronic periodontitis. Chronic periodontitis was assessed on the basis of several periodontal parameters, including pocket probing depth （PPd）, clinical attachment level （CAL）, gingival index （GI）, and plaque index （PI）. Around 3 ml of unstimulated and whole expectorated saliva was collected for MMP-8 estimation by ELISA using Quantikine human total MMP-8 immunoassay kits. data were analyzed using STATISTICA （Windows version 6） software. Salivary MMP-8 levels of groups I and II were 190.91 ± 143.89 ng/ml and 348.26± 202.1 ng/ml, respectively. The MMP-8 levels and periodontal status （PPd, CAL, GI, and PI） of groups I and II showed positive and significant correlations （for PPd, r = 0.63, P 〈 0.001; for CAL, r = 0.54, P 〈 0.001; for GI, r = 0.49, P 〈 0.001; and for PI, r = 0.63, P 〈 0.001）. The results of this study demonstrate elevated concentrations of MMP-8 in individuals with chronic periodontitis.
