Phytochemical Components of Some Minor Cereals Associated with Diabetes Prevention and Management

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder by a chronic hyperglycemic condition because of defects in insulin secretion and insulin action or both. Minor cereals are often drought tolerant and fertilizer efficient. In this review we focus the content and bioavailability of phytochemicals in some minor cereals on the basis evidence for increasing plasma phytochemical concentrations and reducing oxidative stress as well as inflammation in humans. Phenolics and Flavanoids are major phytochemicals and may be available with high concentration in minor cereals but as tightly attached with cell wall, their bioavailability is mostly limited. Clinical trials concluded that vitamin E and other common antioxidants were not helpful for managing diabetic complications. Vicious cycles can cause type 1 DM, where as hypoglycemia can forward to down and regulate neuroendocrine. Increased phytochemical bioavailability may be achieved through bio processing of grains but the improvements might be small and have not yet led to changes in clinical associated with reduced risk of T2D. Furthermore, the effects of minor cereals against oxidative stress in healthy individuals can be very low or not occurred but systemic inflammation can be reduced in people after huge intake. More than 300 Indian medicinal plants have antidiabetic property but exact mechanisms for hypoglycemic action of many plants are still unknown. Further studies are required to pay attention toward direct role of minor cereal phytochemicals on alarming diseases diabetes.

Chest radiography findings and hematological values: Early findings on COVID-19 patients from Turkey

Objective:To investigate the chest radiography findings,hematological values and the risk factors of the mortality of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).Methods:Patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 in a secondary-level state hospital in Turkey from March to April 2020 were included in the ***-19 diagnosis was confirmed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain *** routine blood tests and chest radiography findings were *** relationship between chest radiography findings and hematological values and risk factors of the mortality of COVID-19 were ***:In total,94 patients with confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis were included in the *** them,33 patients did not have lung involvement(RALE score of 0),and 42 had moderate lung involvement(RALE score of 1 to 4),and 19 had severe lung involvement(RALE score of 5 to 8).Patients with higher RALE scores were significantly elder(P=0.000)and had significantly lower lymphocyte count(P=0.032).Patients in need of intensive care had a lower mean number of platelets compared to patients who did not require intensive care(P=0.007).The receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed that RALE score(P=0.005),age(P=0.002),duration of symptoms(P=0.006),neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio(P=0.007),and lymphocyte percentage(P=0.012)were significantly associated with the risk of ***:Patients with severe lung involvement have lower lymphocyte values and ***,RALE score,duration of symptoms,neutrophils/lymphocytes ratio,lymphocytes percentage are risk factors of mortality of COVID-19.

Background: Vitamin D plays a pivotal role in supporting the immune system, helping to reduce the risk of infections and certain autoimmune diseases. Adequate vitamin D levels may be associated with a reduced risk of certain health conditions like pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, and postpartum depression. Brittle bones, osteoporosis in the elderly, and osteomalacia in young children are all symptoms of vitamin D insufficiency. Additionally, it contributes to problems linked to gum disease, including an increase in dental cavities, alveolar bone loss around the teeth, and other problems. It could lead to depression, tiredness, and a loss of appetite. In this study, urban children and adolescents in Dhaka city, Bangladesh are examined for vitamin D deficiency, insufficiency, and sufficiency. Methods: The Study was a cross-sectional study conducted under Dhaka National Medical College and Hospital, Dhaka and additionally included two other health centers Medinova Medical Services and Monoara General Hospital Service Golap bag, Dhaka from October 2020 to November 2021. The study location was at the 3 (Three) different hospitals which was located in Dhaka City. In this cross-sectional study, Participants will be selected purposively and conveniently based on the age categories from 0 - 19 years of age at the outdoor department of the hospital. The study included the secondary dataset of ambulatory individuals who came to the 3 (three) hospitals, randomly to evaluate serum vitamin D levels on referral from a general out-patient-department (OPD). They were examined for laboratory findings of serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D levels to determine vitamin D deficiency, insufficiency, and sufficiency among children and adolescent groups of both male and female Sex. Results: A total of 6394 individuals with a diverse age group were statistically examined for laboratory findings of serum vitamin D levels. Abelmoschus is a genus of about fifteen species belongs to the family Malvaceae. The herb, popularly known as Lady’s Finger or Okra (in English) is a nutritional source used for both medicinal and culinary purposes. The plant is widely distributed from Africa to Asia, Southern Europe, and America. This comprehensive account provides a botanical description of the plant, its phytochemical constituents and pharmacological activities focusing anti-diabetic, anti-oxidant, anti-adhesive, gastro-protective, hepatoprotective, and immunomodulating actions. Most of the pharmacological effects can be explained by the constituents like tannins, terpenoids, flavonoids and glycosides present in all plant parts. However, future efforts should concentrate more on in vitro and in vivo studies and also on clinical trials in order to confirm traditional wisdom in the light of a rational phytotherapy. The present review is an overview of phytochemistry and ethnopharmacological studies that support many of the traditional?ethnomedicinal uses of the plant.

Risk Factors for Wound Infection Following Caesarean Section: A Case Control Study from Sir Salimullah Medical College &Mitford Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Background: Post caesarean section (CS) wound infection or surgical site infection is a leading cause of prolonged hospital stay or readmission. An understanding of its risk factors is important. Methods: A case control study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Sir Salimullah Medical College & Mitford Hospital, in Dhaka, Bangladesh from January to June 2014 to evaluate the risk factors of postoperative surgical site infection following CS. One hundred patients were studied. Results: Fifty patients of post CS wound infection (surgical site infection: SSI) were selected as cases. Body mass index > 25 (kg/m2), anemia (p = 0.001), prolonged rupture of membrane (p = 0.005), prolonged operation time (p = 0.019), and junior surgeons performing the operation (p = 0.011) were the risk factors for CS-SSI. Conclusions: Pre- and postoperative care and surgical training of junior doctors should be directed to these risk factors.

Objective:To evaluate the antidiabetic and antioxidant potential of Emblica officinalis(***)fruit on normal and type 2 diabetic ***:Type 2 diabetes was induced into the male Long-Evans *** rats were divided into nine groups including control groups receiving water,type 2 diabetic controls,type 2 diabetic rats treated with glibenclamide(T2GT)and type 2diabetic rats treated with aqueous extract of fruit pulp of *** were fed orally for8 weeks with a single *** was collected by cutting the tail tip on 0 and 28 days and by decapitation on 56 *** red blood cells and serum were used for evaluating different biochemical ***:Four weeks administration of aqueous extract of *** improved oral glucose tolerance in type 2 rats and after 8 weeks it caused significant(P<0.007)reduction in fasting serum glucose level compared to 0 *** decreased by 14%but there was no significant change in serum ALT,creatinine,cholesterol and insulin level in any ***,reduced erythrocyte malondialdehyde level showed no significant change(P<0.07)but reduced glutathione content was found to be increased significantly(P<0.05).Conclusions:The aqueous extract of *** has a promising antidiabetic and antioxidant properties and may be considered for further clinical studies in drug development.

Test Accuracy of CT-Scan for the Detection of Malignant Liver Mass

Background: Detection of malignant liver mass is very important for the treatment modalities. Objective: The purpose of the present study was to establish the usefulness of CT scan in the diagnosis of malignant hepatic mass. Methodology: This cross sectional study was carried out in the Department of Radiology and Imaging at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), Mymensingh, Banghabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Dhaka during the period of 1st January 2006 to 31st December 2007. Patients admitted in the Department of Medicine and Department of Hepatobiliary of MMCH, BSMMU, and DMCH with the clinical diagnosis of fever, abdominal pain, anorexia, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, jaundice, weight loss and ascites were selected as study population. CT scan and histopathology were performed to all the patients. Result: A total number of 50 patients were recruited for this study. Mean age of all patients was 51.28 ± 14 years with a range of 17 year to 78 years. Among all patients 28 had multiple lesion, of them 71.4% was malignant and 28.6% was benign. On the other side 22 patients had solitary lesion, of them 36.4% was malignant and 63.6% was benign

Fuzzy Synthetic Evaluation Model for Smart Washing Machine

Generally fuzzy control system (FCS) is worked in washing machine. For the fuzzy set theory, membership functions are the building blocks. In a fuzzy set, fuzziness is determined by its membership functions. The shapes of membership functions are important, because it has an effect on fuzzy inference system. The shapes of membership functions can be triangular, trapezoidal and gaussian. The most widely used triangular membership function is used in this paper, because it can capture the short time period. In washing machine, open loop control system is found. This paper applies a fuzzy synthetic evaluation method (FSEM) for washing cloth in washing machine as FSEM can handle the multiple criteria with the help of evaluation matrix generated from membership function and weight matrix generated by Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The purpose of this research is to minimize the wash time. By applying FSEM, we get a wash time which is less than that wash time got from applying the Mamdani approach in FCS. An example is given for illustration. For more reduction of wash time, statistical averaging method is also used. To reduce the wash time, statistical averaging method can be used in Mamdani approach also.

An Overview on the Spinning Triangle Based Modifications of Ring Frame to Reduce the Staple Yarn Hairiness

Traditional ring spinning system is associated with the several limitations, one of which is yarn hairiness. The awareness has been vibrantly growing among the spinning mills for reducing staple yarn hairiness because of its detrimental effects on the subsequent processes (i.e., weaving, knitting, dyeing etc.) and the quality of resultant textile products. As a result, modified form of ring frame has attracted a lot of attention among the researchers for making yarn with the lower level of hairiness value. Besides the raw material parameters and some processing variables, spinning triangle (ST) is the most critical region that has decisive influence on the distribution of fiber tensions and their spatial orientations and shapes in staple yarn body. Thus, using appropriate methods to control the spinning triangle geometry actively has been a vital issue in the field of yarn hairiness reduction. In this paper, it is attempted to make an overview on the spinning triangle based modifications of ring frame that have been designed and destined to reduce hairiness. However, agent aided ring spinning system has also been briefly discussed in this paper as well.
