Conservation of an important montane bamboo Thamnocalamus falconeri, *** Munro through axillary bud proliferation

Thamnocalamus falconeri, Hook.f. ex Munro.,an important bamboo species belonging to the family Poaceae, locally known as Ringal, occurs in the hills of Uttarakhand, India. This species has been traditionally exploited by local communities to support their *** needs of the hill villages impose unsustainable pressure on natural stands of Ringal in the Uttarakhand hills and forests have been degraded. The long history of excessive cutting of Ringal from natural forests and the lack of replanting threaten villager livelihoods. Replanting is required to conserve the species. We propose a protocol for generation of planting material through axillary bud proliferation for multiplication and conservation of this species. We collected offsets/rhizomes from a natural stand of T. falconeri in the Chopta Mandal areas（Chamoli district, India）. These were planted at sites of varied elevation and fresh single nodal segments were collected from them as explants. Different sterilization treatments were assessed to combat contamination. Among these, treatment of 0.1 %Hg Cl2 followed by 5 % Na OCl, proved best. Among two cytokinin treatments, viz. BAP and Kinetin, singly or in combination, BAP alone（5 mg L-1） proved superior and resulted in 100 % bud break. BAP-supplemented MS media yielded maximum vigorous shoot formation（90 %）and maximum number of shoots（8.9）. Subculturing of shoots on the same medium with similar BAP treatment（5 mg L-1BAP） enabled continuous production of healthy shoots at similar frequency. Maximum rooting（100 %）was recorded on half-strength MS medium supplemented with 5 mg L-1IBA. Micropropagated plants were hardened and acclimatized in soil mixture（2：1：1） and then transplanted to field sites（Magra, Uttarakhand, 1,834 m）.Eight to ten months after field transplantation we recorded100 % survival of transplanted material. Studies on mass attenuation coefficients for some body tissues with different medical sources and their validation using Monte Carlo codes

The mass attenuation coefficients of the breasts,lungs,kidneys,pancreas,liver,eye lenses,thyroid,brain,ovary,heart,large intestines,blood,skin,spleen,muscle,and cortical bone were measured at different sources(i.e.,0.021,0.029,0.03,0.14,0.218,0.38,0.412,0.663,0.83,and 1.25 MeV)using various methods including the Monte Carlo N-particle transport code(MCNP),the geometry and tracking code(GEANT4),and theoretical approach described in this *** attenuation coefficients were also compared with the values from the national institute of standards and technology(NIST-XCOM).The values obtained were similar to those obtained using *** results show that the theoretical method is quite convenient in comparison with GEANT4 and MCNP in the calculation of the mass attenuation coefficients of the human body samples applied when compared with the NIST values and demonstrated an acceptable difference.

A conventional technique for microfluidic droplet generation is Co-axial Flow Focusing(CFF)in which a contraction zone is placed downstream of the dispersed phase *** this contraction zone,the dispersed-phase(dphase)fluid is pinched off by continuous-phase(c-phase)fluid to generate *** the influence of multiple parameters such as the fluids velocities and viscosities,the interfacial tension,and nozzle and orifice diameters on the droplet size is of great importance for the design and application of CFF ***,development of more complete numerical models is *** this paper,we show our model is compatible with experimental data and then numerically investigate the effects of aforementioned parameters on the droplet generation in a CFF microfluidic *** results showed that the c-phase flow rate,viscosity and the interfacial tension had great impacts on the droplet *** effect of the nozzle diameter on the generated droplet size was small compared to that of the orifice in a CFF *** the simulation results,a correlation was also developed and suggested which predicts the droplet size with less than 15%error in a wide range of the introduced dimensionless parameters.

Fabrication of a highly efficient new nanocomposite polymer gel for controlling the excess water production in petroleum reservoirs and increasing the performance of enhanced oil recovery processes

A new nanocomposite polymer gel is synthesized for reduction of excess water production in petroleum reservoirs at real operating *** new nanocomposite gel contains SiO2 nanoparticles,partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide(HPAM)and chromium *** pressure and high temperature tests using porous carbonate core are carried out to evaluate the effects of nanoparticles on the synthesized polymer gel *** is shown that the residual resistance factor ratio of water to oil using the synthesized polymer gel nanocomposite in this work is much higher than that of the ordinary polymer *** presented results confirm the high performance of the synthesized nanocomposite polymer gel for decreasing the water flow through porous carbonate bed.A mathematical model for description of oil and water flow behavior in the presence of synthesized nanocomposite polymer gel is also *** presented nano polymer gel leads to considerable cost saving in enhanced oil recovery(EOR)processes.

Manganese(Mn) is an important industrial *** about the chemical and phase constitution along with the concentration of impurities presented in Mn ore is compulsory in assessing its suitability for different *** performed the qualitative and quantitative analysis of low-grade Mn ore(LGMO) using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS) in conjunction with x-ray diffraction(XRD), x-ray fluorescence(XRF) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) coupled with energy dispersive x-ray electron spectroscopy(EDS).The optical emission spectra of the LGMO sample displayed the presence of Mn, Si, Ca, Fe, Al, Mg,V, Ti, Sr, Ni, Na, Ba and *** plasma parameters, electron temperature and number density were estimated using the Boltzmann plot and Stark broadening line profile methods and were found to be 7500 K±750 K and 8.18±0.8×1017 cm-3, *** analysis was performed using the calibration-free LIBS(CF-LIBS) method and its outcome along with XRD, XRF and SEM-EDS data showed almost analogous elemental composition, while the LIBS method gave acceptably precise elemental analysis by detecting the low atomic number element Li besides V and *** results obtained using LIBS for the LGMO exhibited its ability as a powerful analytical tool and XRF, XRD and SEM-EDS as complementary methods for the compositional analysis of complex low-grade mineral ore.

Photodegradation of reactive blue 19 dye using magnetic nanophotocatalyst α-Fe_(2)O_(3)/WO_(3):A comparison study of α-Fe_(2)O_(3)/WO_(3)and WO_(3)/NaOH

The photocatalytic degradation of reactive blue 19(RB19)dye was investigated in a slurry system using ultraviolet(UV)and light-emitting diode(LED)lamps as light sources and using magnetic tungsten trioxide nanophotocatalysts(α-Fe_(2)O_(3)/WO_(3)and WO_(3)/NaOH)as *** effects of different parameters including irradiation time,initial concentration of RB19,nanophotocatalyst dosage,and pH were *** magnetic nanophotocatalysts were also characterized with different methods including scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),photoluminescence(PL),differen-tial reflectance spectroscopy(DRS),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and vibrating sample magnetometry(VSM).The XRD and FTIR analyses confirmed the presence of tungsten trioxide on the iron oxide *** VSM analysis confirmed the magnetic ability of the new synthesized nanophotocatalyst α-Fe_(2)O_(3)/WO_(3)with 39.6 emu/g of saturation *** reactor performance showed consid-erable improvement in the α-Fe_(2)O_(3)-modified *** impact of visible light was specifically investigated,and it was compared with UV-C light under the same experimental *** reusability of the magnetic nanophotocatalyst α-Fe_(2)O_(3)/WO_(3)was tested during six cycles,and the magnetic materials showed an excellent removal efficiency after six cycles,with just a 7%decline.

Evaluation on Properties of CaO-BaO-B_2O_3-Al_2O_3-SiO_2 Glass-Ceramic Sealants for Intermediate Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

To develop suitable sealants for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells （IT-SOFC）, glass-ceramics based on the CaO-BaO-B203-AI203-Si02 system were studied. Coefficient of thermal expansion （CTE）, glass transition temperature （Tg） and dilatometric softening point temperature （Td） of specimens were determined by means of dilatometer analysis and crystallization temperature was measured by differential thermal analysis （DTA）. Also, crystallization behavior during prolonged heat-treatment and microstructure properties were studied by means of X-ray diffraction （XRD） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, respectively. Electrical properties were measured at different temperatures, and the results showed a high resistance （〉104 Ω） at the SOFC operation temperature （600-800 ℃）. Moreover, mechanical properties of heat-treated specimens （1, 10, 30, 50 h） were measured, Microstructure investigation revealed a well-adhered bonding between the sealant glass-ceramic electrolyte and glass.
