Objective:To evaluate antidiabetic and antioxidant potential of Hybanthus enneaspermus in different ***:The oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) and normoglycemic effect of alcoholic extract of Hybanthus enneaspermus(AHE) were evaluated at a dose of 125,250 and 500mg/kg *** hypoglycemic activity and effect on body weight were tested at 250 and 500 mg/kg *** day for 21 days in Streptozotocin(STZ) induced diabetic ***,glucose uptake by hemidiaphram was also *** total polyphenolic and flavonoid were determined and their correlation with various antioxidant assays was also ***:The results showed high level of phenolic content in *** also exhibited higher total antioxidant capacity,good reducing power and a significant scavenger of reactive oxygen species like DPPH radical,nitric oxide,hydrogen peroxide and *** there was a significant increase in the body weight and decrease in the blood glucose level on treatment with the *** increased glucose uptake on isolated rat hemi-diaphragm compared to control ***:AHE reduce blood glucose level in STZ-induced diabetic *** does not show significant effect in normoglycemic study but showes significant effect in *** has significant antioxidant activity,which may be attributed to high phenolic content.

Hybanthus enneaspermus (L.) F. Muell belonging to the family Violaceae, popularly known as Ratanpurus (Hindi) is a herb or a shrub distributed in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. In the Ayurvedic literature, the plant is reported to cure conditions of "kapha" and "Pitta", urinary calculi, strangury, painful dysentery, vomiting, burning sensation, wandering of the mind, urethral discharge, blood trouble, asthma, epilepsy, cough, and to give tone to the breasts. Phytochemically, the plant contains a considerable amount of dipeptide alkaloids, aurantiamide acetate, isoarborinol, and β-sitosterol, sugars, flavonoids, steroids, triterpenes, phenols, flavones, catachins, tannins, anthraquinones and amino acids. Pharmacologically, the plant is reported to possess antidiabetic, antiplasmodial, antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, nephroprotective, aphrodisiac, hepatoprotective, antiinflammatory, aldose reductase inhibitory and free radical scavenging activities. The information provided in this review will be worthwhile to know the applicability of H. enneaspermus for the treatment of various acute or chronic diseases with a diverse nature of phytoconstituents. The overall data in this review article were collected from various scientific sources on the research of H. enneaspermus.

Hybridization between salt resistant and salt susceptible genotypes of mungbean(Vigna radiata ***)and purity testing of the hybrids using SSRs markers

Six cultivated and two wild genotypes of mungbean（Vigna radiata L. Wilczek） possessing variation for phenotypic and genotypic response for salt tolerance were hybridized. Hybridization results showed successful pod set and significant variations in cross-compatibility of investigated genotypes. Genotypes PLM 380 and PLM 562 showed promising combining ability with all genotypes. Results revealed significant crossing compatibility between V. radiata and V. sublobata. The cross ability ranged from 1.99 to 5.12%（average 3.08%）. Molecular analysis confirmed the hybrids purity. All F_1 seeds were bold, green/shiny green and germinated between 3 to 5 days. Hybrid plants were normal, fertile and healthier over their respective progenitors. Uniform flowering and maturity of the hybrids showed absence of any defect or alteration in plant habit and life cycle of the hybrids. The hybrid plants showed increase in yield characteristics as no. of pods, pod length, 100 seeds weight, and yield per plant. Number of pods containing F_2 seeds ranged from 5–8 per cluster. The F_2 seeds were collected and stored for further research. Present study suggests that salt resistant wild relatives or cultivars of mungbean can be explored by breeding as a source of useful traits/genes providing salt tolerance. This may help in development of best mungbean variety for saline prone areas. Micro-satellite markers linked to the trait/genes may assist breeding by early selection of the genotypes compared to the phenotypic screening.

Objective:To investigate antidiabetic potential of alcoholic leaves extract of Alangium lamarekii (***) on streptozotocin-nicotinamide induced type 2 diabetic ***:Oral glucose tolerance test was done by inducing hyperglycemic state via administration of glucose in water(2 g/kg).Single dose of alcoholic leaves extract ***(250 and 500 mg/kg,p.o.) were administered to normoglycemic,hyperglycemic *** 2 diabetes was induced by single intraperitoneal injection of nicotinamide(110 mg/kg) followed by streptozotocin(65 mg/kg).The study also included estimations of blood plasma glucose,lipid profile,liver glycogen,body weight and antioxidant status in normal and diabetic ***:Admistration of alcoholic extract of *** at two dosage 250 and 500 rag/kg,*** not showed any significant change in blood glucose level of normoglycemic rats(P>0.05).whereas,oral glucose tolerance test depicted reduction in blood glucose level(Pkg),restored the lipid profile and showed improvement in liver glycogen,body weight and antioxidant status in diabetic ***:Present finding demonstrated the significant antidiabetic activity of alcoholic leaves extract ***.

Inhibitory effect of two Indian medicinal plants on aldose reductase of rat lens in vitro

Objective:To assesse the inhibitor) effect of alcoholic extract of two Indian medicinal plants namely Ceasalpinia digyna Rottler *** lamarckii Thwaits on aldose reductase（AR） of rat ***:Rats lens were enucleated through posterior approach and their homogenate was prepared and centrifuged to obtain a clear supernatant for the determination of AR activity and protein ***:The alcoholic extract of Ceasalpirda digyna and Alangium lamarckii had a potent inhibitory effect on the lens AR *** IC50 values of alcoholic extract of the selected plants were calculated and were（46.29±11.17） and（106.00±5.11）μg/mL,respectively. Quercetin was used as a positive control and its IC50 value was（2.95±1.53）μg/***:Thus,it is concluded that alcoholic extracts of the selected plant exhibit significant inhibitory effects on AR in the rat lens in vitro.

STAG-CNS： An Order-Aware Conserved Noncoding Sequences Discovery Tool for Arbitrary Numbers of Species

One method for identifying noncoding regulatory regions of a genome is to quantify rates of divergence between related species, as functional sequence will generally diverge more slowly. Most approaches to identifying these conserved noncoding sequences （CNSs） based on alignment have had relatively large minimum sequence lengths （≥15 bp） compared with the average length of known transcription factor binding sites. To circumvent this constraint, STAG-CNS that can simultaneously integrate the data from the promoters of conserved orthologous genes in three or more species was developed. Using the data from up to six grass species made it possible to identify conserved sequences as short as 9 bp with false discovery rate ≤0.05. These CNSs exhibit greater overlap with open chromatin regions identified using DNase I hypersensitivity assays, and are enriched in the promoters of genes involved in transcriptional regulation. STAG-CNS was further employed to characterize loss of conserved noncoding sequences associated with retained duplicate genes from the ancient maize polyploidy. Genes with fewer retained CNSs show lower overall expression, although this bias is more apparent in samples of complex organ systems containing many cell types, suggesting that CNS loss may correspond to a reduced number of expression contexts rather than lower expression levels across the entire ancestral expression domain.

Lead Induced Oxidative Stress: Beneficial Effects of kombucha Tea

Objective To evaluate the effect of oral administration of kombucha tea (k-tea) on lead induced oxidative stress. Methods Sprague Dawley rats were administered 1 mL of 3.8% lead acetate solution daily alone or in combination with k-tea orally for 45 d, and the antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation were evaluated. Results Oral administration of lead acetate to rats enhanced lipid peroxidation and release of creatine phosphokinase and decreased levels of reduced glutathione (GSH) and antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, SOD and glutathione peroxidase, GPx). Lead treatment did not alter humoral immunity, but inhibited DTH response when compared to the control. Lead administration also increased DNA fragmentation in liver. Oral administration of kombucha tea to rats exposed to lead decreased lipid peroxidation and DNA damage with a concomitant increase in the reduced glutathione level and GPx activity. kombucha tea supplementation relieved the lead induced immunosuppression to appreciable levels. Conclusion The results suggest that k-tea has potent antioxidant and immunomodulating properties.
