Background: LAA is the major site of thrombus formation in mitral stenosis;active LAA blood flow and contractile function may be disturbed in MS. TEE?is the modality of choice for evaluating LAA and Speckle-tracking?echocardiography (STE) is a recently developed technique for the characterization and quantification of myocardial deformation. It permits measurement of LA and LAA strain and strain rate which can be used to assess the mechanical function of LAA. Objective: To assess the mechanical function of left atrial appendage (LAA) in mitral stenosis (MS) patients with sinus rhythm by 2D?speckle tracking strain and strain rate through transesophageal?echocardiography (TEE). Patients & Method: Thirty-three patients with moderate tosevere MS and sinus rhythm, 38.33 ± 5.66 years as a case group and?twenty-two age and sex matched healthy volunteers as a control group. All?participants underwent compete conventional transthoracic echocardiography;TEE for assessment of LAA morphology and Doppler flow and speckle?tracking strain & strain rate were measured from LAA walls. Results: LAA Doppler flow peak velocities, LAA strain, reservoir strain rate (RSr), conduit strain rate (CSr) and atrial contractile strain rate (ASr) all were significantly lower in patient group. Global Strain of LAA had a negative correlation with LA diameter, pulmonary artery systolic pressure & degree of spontaneous echo contrast and a positive correlation with MS area and LAA Doppler flow.Conclusion: 2D speckle tracking strain and strain rate of LAA is a feasible technique and is significantly reduced in patients with mitral stenosis even with sinus rhythm.

Background: There is no single noninvasive index that provides a direct measure of LV filling pressure. However, invasive measuring of LV end diastolic pressure (LVEDP) provides reliable assessment of LV diastolic dysfunction, but its invasive nature limits its use in daily practice. Accurate noninvasive assessment of LV diastolic dysfunction is highly desirable, and the relationship between the degree of LVEDP and acceleration of E’ wave obtained by tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) of mitral annulus is not clearly assessed;here in our study we aimed to assess the relation between the degree of LVEDP and the acceleration rate of E’ wave of mitral annular Doppler tissue. Patients and Methods: The study included 60 patients divided equally into 3 groups according to the degree of LVEDP, group I (Normal): ’ ratio and E’ wave acceleration rate. Coronary angiography and left sided heart catheterization and measuring LVEDP were performed for correlating E’ wave acceleration rate with invasively estimated LVEDP.?Results: There was significant progressive decrease in E’ acceleration rate (E’ Acc rate) with progressive increase in LVEDP from I to III (P 0.001), while there was significant progressive increase in E/E’ ratio with progressive increase in LVEDP from I to III (P 0.003). Peak E’ acceleration rate had a significant negative correlation with LVEDP in all three groups, with p value of 0.003, 0.044 and 0.021 respectively in group I, II & III. Regarding E/E’ ratio there was a significant positive correlation in predicting normal and elevated LVEDP with p value (0.001 and 0.006) respectively while there was a non-significant correlation between E/E’ and LVEDP within grey zone group. Conclusion: E’ acceleration rate could be used as a reliable index to assess LVEDP.

Background: Invasive measuring of LV end diastolic pressure (LVEDP) provides reliable assessment of LV diastolic dysfunction, but its invasive nature limits its use in daily practice. Accurate noninvasive assessment of LV diastolic dysfunction is highly desirable, and the relationship between the degree of LVEDP and LV torsion dynamics assessed by 2D speckle tracking is not clearly assessed;here in our study we aimed to assess the relation between the degree of LVEDP and torsion dynamics of left ventricle. Methods: The study included sixty patients divided equally into 3 groups according to the degree of LVEDP, group I: mmHg, group II: 12 - 18 mmHg, and group III: >18 mmHg;complete conventional echo-Doppler study includes also annular septal E wave peak velocity, E/E’ ratio and 2D-speckle tracking including parameters of LV global longitudinal strain (GLS), peak and time to peak of twist ratio (TR & TT respectively), peak and time to peak of untwist ratio (UTR & UTT respectively). Results: There was significant progressive decrease in GLS with progressive increase in LVEDP from I to III. Untwist ratio increased in group II and decreased in significant degree in group III;Twist ratio did not differ with different grades of LVEDP. LA diameter and E/E’ increase from group I to III. The LVEDP is negatively correlated with the UTR and GLS is positively correlated with UTT, E/E & LA diameter. The E/E’ ratio is correlated negatively with the UTR, GLS and positively with LVEDP & UTT and LA diameter. Conclusions: Noninvasive assessment of LV torsion and untwisting was feasible in patients with various grades of LVEDP and diastolic dysfunction;the peak untwist ratio increased in mild degree of increased LVEDP then decreased again with more increase in LVEDP;LVEDP wasnegatively correlated with the peak untwist ratio and GLS was positively correlated with UTT and E/E’.

Biochemical Liver Functions and Molecular Identification of Fasciola hepatica from Experimentally Infected Rat Model

The current study was performed to evaluate the liver function status as well as molecular characterization of the recovered worms in rats experimentally infected with F. hepatica. Sixteen male Wister rats aged 30 days were randomly allocated into two groups (n = 8). The first group was infected orally with 15 viable encysted metacercaria of F. hepatica per animal. The other group was kept non-infected (control group). At zero time (before infection), the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th and 14th weeks post-infection (WPI), blood and serum samples were collected via puncture of retro-orbital plexus of veins from each rat. Serum enzyme level (AST and ALT) and total protein were measured, and the serum protein profile was carried out using agarose gel electrophoresis. During the period of the experiment, serum ALT and AST activities and serum total globulins significantly increased while serum total proteins and albumin markedly decreased in the infected group. On the 14th WPI, the data of the electropherogram showed that globulin fractions (α1-, β- and γ-globulin) levels were significantly increased while α2-globulin was markedly decreased in the infected group. The molecular analysis confirmed the amplification of the ITS1, ITS2 and NDI genes of F. hepatica recovered from the infected liver of rats with amplicon sizes of 630, 510 and 560 bp, respectively. Sequencing of the amplified ITS gene resulted in the determination of 3 strains (PP108836, PP108837, and PP108838). Also, analysis of the ITS2 gene resulted in obtaining 3 isolates under the accession numbers (PP109065, PP109066, and PP109067). In conclusion, fasciolosis in the rat model is suitable for routine experimental infections and caused a pronounced liver dysfunction with discharging of the Fasciola eggs in the faeces and the development of adult stages in the bile ducts. The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of bovine cysticercosis in both cattle and buffloas, in Egypt and to assess the cysticidal efficacy of Balanites aegyptiaca fruits (B. aegyptiaca) and Moringa oleifera seeds (M. oleifera) extracts in experimentally infected mice. The study detected the level of tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) to monitor the immune and inflammatory responses of experimentally infected mice. Through meat inspection, a total number of 2125 male bovine, 2 to 5 years old, (1125 cattle and 1000 buffloes) were examined under the authority of Albsatine and Alwaraq official abattoirs in Cairo Governorate, Egypt covering the period extended from March 2022 to April 2023. The overall prevalence of the disease among bovine was 7.8% (6.31% of cattle and 9.5% of buffloes). Besides, B. aegyptiaca and M. oleifera extracts showed cysticidal activity in experimentally infected mice. A decrease in the numbers of cysticerci was found in all treated mice groups, and up to 88% reduction was achieved in the B. aegyptiaca-treated group;higher than that was recorded in both M. oleifera (72.23%) and albendazole-treated ones (80.56%). Postmortem findings proved that M. oleifera and B. aegyptiaca reduced cysticerci numbers comparable to a commercial anthelmintic. The study showed a significant decrease (P 0.001) in TNF-α levels after treatment with Balanites and Moringa extracts, compared with the untreated control and the albendazole-treated groups.

Reservoir quality evaluation using sedimentological and petrophysical characterization of deep-water turbidites:A case study of Tariki Sandstone Member,Taranaki Basin,New Zealand

The current study aims to ascertain the reservoir characteristics of the Tariki Sandstone Member of the Otaraoa Formation,Taranaki Basin,New Zealand.This study was carried out by integrating the comprehensive petrophysical evaluation,sedimentological and petrographic studies,as well as well log analysis by using data from six wells.The porosity-permeability relationship is used to divide the samples of the Tariki Sandstone Member into reservoir and non-reservoir facies.A thorough petrophysical analysis shows that the maximum porosity values fluctuate between 16.6%and 22.1%,while permeability ranges from 102 mD to 574 mD,which indicates fair to good reservoir quality.Moreover,the Tariki sandstone represents six hydraulic flow units with a high reservoir quality index and flow zone indicator representing good reservoir characteristics.The pore size varies between nano and megapores with dominant macropores.Based on the sedimentological and petrographic analysis,the Tariki Sandstone Member is classified as a combination of subarkose,arkose,and lithic arkose with fine to medium and moderately to moderately well-sorted grains.The main diagenetic factor affecting the reservoir quality is cementation,which occupied all the pores with calcite.On the bright side,the secondary pores are developed due to the dissolution of calcite cement and few grains.The well log analysis demonstrates the presence of low clay volume ranging from 0.3%to 3.1%,fair to good effective porosity values between 13.6%and 15.9%,net pay thickness from 18.29 m to 91.44 m,and hydrocarbon saturation from 56%to 77.9%.The findings from this study revealed that the Tariki Sandstone Member possesses fair to good reservoir quality and hydrocarbon potential,which indicate submarine fans as appealing hydrocarbon reservoirs.This study can be used in similar depositional environments elsewhere in the world.

The Eastern Desert of Egypt suffered a protracted period of deformation triggered by cratonization of the new juvenile crust known as the Arabian Nubian Shield(ANS),which has been proposed for potential gold discoveries associated with the corresponding tectonic event.The Fatira area,on the border of Egypt’s Northern and Central Eastern Deserts,is covered with metavolcanic rocks twisted by a dextral relocation of the Fatira Shear Zone(FSZ)relative to the Barud magmatic body.The recent study evaluated many deformed post-orogenic granitic intrusions and felsite dikes associated with promising mineralization localities,notably orogenic gold deposits.The combination of various field observations and remote sensing data,followed by the analysis of aeromagnetic enhanced maps,allowed the differentiation of distinct lithologies,structural features,and hydrothermal alterations in the study area.Additionally,the integrated results obtained from the different interpretation techniques are utilized to identify and confirm the previously supposed mineralized localities in the Fatira and Abu Zawal areas and predict other matched localities.The final ASTER,Sentinel 2 hydrothermal alteration,and orientation entropy heat maps demonstrate the association between these mineralized regions and major structures related to the FSZ late stage of deformation rather than other structures studied throughout the area of interest.

Characteristics Study on Bi-Pb Based Alloys Quenched from Melt

Three different bismuth-lead systems namely, Wood＇s alloy （Bi50Pb25Sn12.5Cd12.5）, Newton＇s alloy （Bi50Pb31.2Sn18.8） and Rose＇s alloy （B50Pb28Sn22）, with one used as fusible alloys were quenched from melt by melt spinning technique. Thermal analysis, structure and mechanical properties of all alloys have been studied and analyzed. From X-ray diffraction analysis, an intermetallic compound phase, designated Pb7Bi3 is detected. The formation of an intermetallic compound phase causes a pronounced increase in the electrical resistivity. The Wood＇s alloy containing-cadmium exhibits mechanical properties superior to both the Newton＇s and Rose＇s alloys. The presence of cadmium in Wood＇s alloy decreases its melting point. Wood＇s alloy has better properties, which make it useful in various applications such as in protection shields for radiotherapy, locking of mechanical devices and welding at low temperature.

Sludge dewatering and treatment may cost as much as the wastewater treatment.Usually large proportion of the pollutants in wastewater is organic.They are attacked by saprophytic microorganisms,i.***.organisms that feed upon dead organic matter.Activity of organisms causes decomposition of organic matter and destroys them,where the bacteria convert the organic matter or other constituents in the wastewater to new cells,water,gases and other products.Demolition activities,including renovation/remodeling works and complete or selective removal/demolishing of existing structures either by man-made processes or by natural disasters,create an extensive amount of wastes.These demolition wastes are characterized as heterogeneous mixtures of building materials that are usually contaminated with chemicals and dirt.In developing countries, it is estimated that demolition wastes comprise 20%to 30%of the total annual solid wastes.In Egypt,the daily quantity of construction and demolition(C&D) waste has been estimated as 10 000 tones.That is equivalent to one third of the total daily municipal solid wastes generated per day in Egypt.The zabbaliin have since expanded their activities and now take the waste they collect back to their garbage villages where it is sorted into recyclable components:paper,plastics, rags,glass,metal and food.The food waste is fed to pigs and the other items are sold to recycling centers.This paper summarizes the wastewater and solid wastes management in Egypt now and future.
