Glaucoma,a prevalent and debilitating eye disease,has long been associated with vision impairment and blindness.However,recent research has shed light on the often-underestimated psychological dimensions of this condition.Anxiety and depression,two pervasive psychiatric comorbidities,have been increasingly recognized among glaucoma patients.This comprehensive review aims to explore the intricate relationship between psychiatry and ophthalmology,in the context of managing depression and anxiety in glaucoma patients.By meticulously examining peer-reviewed literature,we synthesize current knowledge on the prevalence,risk factors,and underlying mechanisms of anxiety and depression in glaucoma.The evidence reveals that glaucoma patients face an elevated risk of experiencing these mood disorders.Factors such as progressive vision loss,complex medication regimens,and the fear of further visual deterioration contribute to their vulnerability.Moreover,we delve into the bidirectional relationship between glaucoma and mood disorders,shedding light on the complex interplay between ocular and emotional health.Our review investigates the implications of anxiety and depression on glaucoma management,including their potential impact on treatment adherence,disease progression,and overall quality of life.We also explore the neurobiological pathways linking glaucoma and mood disorders,providing a foundation for future research and potential therapeutic interventions.In conclusion,recognizing the psychological burden carried by glaucoma patients is essential for holistic and patient-centered care.This review underscores the pressing need for integrated approaches that bring together ophthalmological and psychiatric expertise to optimize the well-being of individuals facing the challenges of glaucoma.By addressing anxiety and depression in glaucoma care,healthcare providers can enhance the overall quality of life for these patients,ultimately leading to improved outcomes and a brighter future for those affected by this condition.This

This comprehensive review embarks on a captivating journey into the complex relationship between cardiology and normal-tension glaucoma(NTG),a condition that continues to baffle clinicians and researchers alike.NTG,characterized by optic nerve damage and visual field loss despite normal intraocular pressure,has long puzzled clinicians.One emerging perspective suggests that alterations in ocular blood flow,particularly within the optic nerve head,may play a pivotal role in its pathogenesis.While NTG shares commonalities with its high-tension counterpart,its unique pathogenesis and potential ties to cardiovascular health make it a fascinating subject of exploration.It navigates through the complex web of vascular dysregulation,blood pressure and perfusion pressure,neurovascular coupling,and oxidative stress,seeking to uncover the hidden threads that tie the heart and eyes together in NTG.This review explores into the intricate mechanisms connecting cardiovascular factors to NTG,shedding light on how cardiac dynamics can influence ocular health,particularly in cases where intraocular pressure remains within the normal range.NTG's enigmatic nature,often characterized by seemingly contradictory risk factors and clinical profiles,underscores the need for a holistic approach to patient care.Drawing parallels to cardiac health,we examine into the shared vascular terrain connecting the heart and the eyes.Cardiovascular factors,including systemic blood flow,endothelial dysfunction,and microcirculatory anomalies,may exert a profound influence on ocular perfusion,impacting the delicate balance within the optic nerve head.By elucidating the subtle clues and potential associations between cardiology and NTG,this review invites clinicians to consider a broader perspective in their evaluation and management of this elusive condition.As the understanding of these connections evolves,so too may the prospects for early diagnosis and tailored interventions,ultimately enhancing the quality of life for those living with NTG.

Effect of exchange-correlation functionals on the estimation of migration barriers in battery materials

Facile ionic mobility within host frameworks is crucial to the design of high-energy-density batteries with high-power-densities,where the migration barrier(Em)is the governing factor.Here,we assess the accuracy and computational performance of generalized gradient approximation(GGA),the strongly constrained and appropriately normed(SCAN),and their Hubbard U corrections,GGA+U and SCAN+U,within the density functional theory-nudged elastic band framework,in the prediction of Em as benchmarked against experimental data.Importantly,we observe SCAN to be more accurate than other frameworks,on average,albeit with higher computational costs and convergence difficulties,while GGA is a feasible choice for“quick”and“qualitative”Em predictions.Further,we quantify the sensitivity of Em with adding uniform background charge and/or the climbing image approximation in solid electrolytes,and the Hubbard U correction in electrodes.Our findings will improve the quality of Em predictions which will enable identifying better materials for energy storage applications.

Materials for energy-related applications,which are crucial for a sustainable energy economy,rely on combining materials that form complex heterogenous interfaces.Simultaneously,progress in computational materials science in describing complex interfaces is critical for improving the understanding and performance of energy materials.Hence,we present an in-depth review of the physical quantities regulating interfaces in batteries,photovoltaics,and photocatalysts,that are accessible from modern electronic structure methods,with a focus on density functional theory calculations.For each energy application,we highlight unique approaches that have been developed to calculate interfacial properties and explore the possibility of applying some of these approaches across disciplines,leading to a unified overview of interface design.Finally,we identify a set of challenges for further improving the theoretical description of interfaces in energy devices.

WiGig and IEEE 802.11ad for Multi-Gigabyte-Per-Second WPAN and WLAN

The Wireless Gigabit Alliance （WiGig） and I EEE 802.11 ad are developing a multigigabit wireless personal and local area network （WPAN/ WLAN） specification in the 60 GHz millimeter wave band. Chipset manufacturers, original equipment manufacturers （OEMs）, and telecom companies are also assisting in this development. 60 GHz millimeter wave transmission will scale the speed of WLANs and WPANs to 6.75 Gbit/s over distances less than 10 meters. This technology is the first of its kind and will eliminate the need for cable around personal computers, docking stations, and other consumer electronic devices. High-definition multimedia interface （HDMI）, display port, USB 3.0, and peripheral component interconnect express （PCle） 3.0 cables will all be eliminated. Fast downloads and uploads, wireless sync, and multi-gigabit-per-second WLANs will be possible over shorter distances. 60 GHz millimeter wave supports fast session transfer （FST） protocol, which makes it backward compatible with 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz WLAN so that end users experience the same range as in today＇ s WLANs. IEEE 802.1 lad specifies the physical （PHY） sublayer and medium access control （MAC） sublayer of the protocol stack. The MAC protocol is based on time-division multiple access （TDMA）, and the PHY layer uses single carrier （SC） and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing （OFDM） to simultaneously enable low-power, high-performance applications.
