Star clusters were historically considered simple stellar populations,with all stars sharing the same age and initial chemical ***,the presence of chemical anomalies in globular clusters(GCs),called multiple stellar populations(mPs),has challenged star formation theories in dense *** studies show that mass,metallicity,and age are likely controlling parameters for the manifestation of *** the limit between clusters with/without mPs in physical parameter space is crucial to reveal the driving mechanism behind their *** this study,we look for mP signals in Whiting 1,which is traditionally considered a young *** the magellan telescope,we obtained low-resolution spectra withinλλ=3850-5500?for eight giants of Whiting *** measured the C and N abundances from the CN and CH spectral indices.C and N abundances have variations comparable with their measurement errors(~0.1 dex),suggesting that mPs are absent from Whiting *** these findings with literature studies,we propose a limit in the metallicity *** compactness index parameter space,which relatively clearly separates star clusters with/without mPs(GCs/open clusters).This limit is physically *** a larger scale,the galactic environment determines cluster compactness and metallicity,leading to metal-rich,diffuse,old clusters formed ex *** proposed limit also impacts our understanding of the formation of the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy:star clusters formed after the first starburst(age≤8-10 Gyr).These clusters are simple stellar populations because the enriched galactic environment is no longer suitable for mP formation.

Cervical myelopathy: Diagnostic Aspects, Surgical Treatment and Evolution of Patients Operated upon in Yaounde

Introduction: Although cervical myelopathy is the most common degenerative cervical spine pathology in adults, the indications and approaches of surgical treatment have not yet been clearly defined in the literature. Very few studies exist regarding these aspects in our setting, and they are mostly outdated. This study aimed to describe the diagnostic aspects, current surgical treatment with technical improvements, and progression in patients. Patients and methods: We conducted a multicentre retrospective descriptive study over a 10-year period between January 2011 and January 2020 in three referral centres in Yaoundé. All patients who underwent surgery for cervical myelopathy were included. Results: Fifty-two patients were recruited. The rate of operated cervical myelopathies among all degenerative spinal pathologies was 14.05%. The m/F sex ratio was 3/1, and the average age was 52 ± 10 years. All included patients had gait problems, 90.38% demonstrated motor deficiency, and 67.30% experienced at least three levels of compression. Surgery was decided based on the Nurick grade;a posterior approach was applied to 86.54% of patients. Postoperative progression showed a neurological improvement of 82% with an average follow-up of 4 years. Conclusion: In this study, the patients who underwent surgery were relatively young, their clinical presentations were mostly advanced, and surgical management showed good results in well-selected cases.

Introduction: metastatic spinal tumors (mST) refer to secondary involvement of the vertebral column by hematogenously-disseminated metastatic cells. They could affect either the bony structures or the spinal cords. mechanical instability and neurologic deficits resulting from spinal cord compression are the most common manifestations. Surgical intervention remains the most effective treatment for about 20% of patients who present with spinal cord compression. The prognosis is relatively poor. This work has as objectives to describe: the diagnostic tools, the different modalities of management and the prognostic elements of spine metastasis. methodology: We conducted an ambispective cross-sectional descriptive study;with retrospective data collection from January 2015 to December 2021 and prospective collection from January to April 2022 in the “Neurosurgery” unit of the Yaounde Central Hospital and the “Oncology and Neurosurgery” units of Yaounde General Hospital. Result: We included 101 patients. The m/F sex ratio was 1.66. The average age of the participants was 56.44 years (±14.19 SD) with a median of 58 years. metastatic spinal tumors were discovered in 61.39% of patients with a previously known primary tumor and 21.78% of patients had newly discovered tumors. The neurologic examination revealed a vertebral syndrome in 79.21% of cases, radicular syndrome in 60.40% and sub-lesional syndrome in 59.89%. Sensory disorders accounted for 39.60% and sphincter disorders accounted for 34.65%. According to the degree of severity, the lesions were classified as Frankel E (37.62%) followed by Frankel D (21.78%). metastatic lesions were mostly found at the thoracic vertebrae (68.25%) and lumbar vertebrae (22.22%). The most represented primary tumors were: prostate tumors (41.58%) and breast tumors (23.76%);followed by malignant hemopathies (15.84%). Distribution and geochemical significance of dibenzofurans,phenyldibenzofurans and benzo[b]naphthofurans in source rock extracts from Niger Delta basin,Nigeria

The distribution and geochemical significance of dibenzofurans,phenyldibenzofurans and benzo[b]naptho-furans in source rocks from Niger Delta basin,Nigeria,were investigated by Rock-Eval pyrolysis and gas chro-matography--mass spectrometry(GC--mS).The data obtained from the source rocks evaluation showed that the rock samples contained type 1/III kerogen capable of generating oil and gas and were within immature to early mature *** relative abundance of the Cor,C1-and C2-dibenzofurans range from 1.75%to 29.82%,27.60%to 40.52%and 29.66%to 6889%,*** diben-zofurans were dominated by *** the C1-dibenzofurans,2-+3-methyldibenzofuran was the most abundant in the rock samples while 1-methy ldibenzofuran appeared to be the *** relative abundance of benzo[b]naphtho[1,2-d]furan(1,2]BNF),benzo[b]naph-tha[2,1-d]furan(2.1]BNF)and benzo[b]naphtha[2,3-d]fu-ran([2.3]BNF)in the rock extracts range from 12.01%to 52.58%,32.61%to 75.219%and 10.27%to 52.43%.The wide range of values recorded for the three isomers of benzo[b lnapthofurans in the samples suggest source rocks formed from mixed organic *** the pheny ldibenzofuran isomers,4-pheny ldibenzofuran was the most abundant while 1-phenyldibenzofuran was the *** ratio-1(PhFR-1)and pheny ldibenzofuran ratio-2(PhFR-2)values range from 0.13 to 1.20 and 0.11 to 2.11,*** resuls showed that the relative abundance of PhFR-1 and PhFR-2 increase gradually with increasing burial depth and maturity(VRo≤0.77%,mPI-1≤*** s 443℃),and have a good correlations with calculated vitrinite ***-I and maximum Temperature(Tmax)-This range of values suggested immature to early mature source *** source rocks were found to have shale and coul lithologics and deposited in a lacustrine/fuvial deltaic settings within immature to early mature stages based on the distribution of dibenzofurans,pheny ldiben-zofurans and benzo[b]naphthofurans in the source rock

The cross sections of the ^(59)Co(n,x)reaction in the average energy range of 15.2-37.2 meV were meas-ured using activation and an off-line γ-ray spectrometric *** neutrons were generated from the ^(9)Be(p,n)reaction with proton beam energies of 25-45 meV at the mC-50 Cyclotron facility of the Korean Institute of Radi-ological and medical Sciences(KIRAmS).Theoretical cal lculations of neutron-induced reactions on ^(59)Co were per-formed using the nuclear model code *** results for the ^(59)Co(n,x)reactions were compared with the theoretical values obtained using TALYS-1.9 and the literature data provided in EXFOR and the TENDL 2019 nuc-lear data *** theoretical values obtained using TALYS-1.9 with adjusted parameters are comparable to the experimental *** measured reaction cross sections of a few radionuclides are new,and the others are compar-able to the literature data,and thus,they can strengthen the *** present study on cross sections leads to useful insight into the mechanisms of ^(59)Co(n,x)reactions.

Effects of 8-Hydroxyisocapnolactone-2-3-diol and friedelin on mast cell degranulation

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of friedelin (terpenoid) and 8-hydroxyisocapnolactone-2-3-diol (coumarin) with concentration 10 μm, 30 μm, and 100 μm on inhibiting mast cells (mCs) *** investigation was performed in vitro by administering each compound into rat peritoneal mCs and rat basophilic leukemia-2H3 cells followed by activation with 50 μg/mL of compound 48/80 or 1 μm of ionomycin. The concentration of histamine released from each group was measured by a high-performance liquid chromatography-fluorometry system with post-column derivatization using ***8-Hydroxyisocapnolactone-2-3-diol inhibited degranulation of compound 48/80 activated-rat peritoneal mCs with the histamine release percentages of 74.57%, 72.21% and 51.79% when the 10 μm, 30 μm and 100 μm concentrations were used, respectively. Where as about 81% histamine was released by the control group. Degranulation inhibition ability was also observed in ionomycin-activated rat basophilic leukemia-2H3 cells. In contrast, friedelin failed to inhibit degranulation in either cell type. The inhibition of 8-hydroxyisocapnolactone-2-3-diol was not related to the depletion of histamine synthesis as implied by the total histamine *** results exhibit the promising of 8-hydroxyisocapnolactone-2-3-diol is a potential parent structure for developing a mCs stabilizer.

Discontinuities effect on drilling condition and performance of selected rocks in Nigeria

The study examined joint discontinuity spacing effect on drilling condition and performance in selected rocks in llorin and Ibese areas, Nigeria. Five samples for each rock type （gneiss and limestone） were tested in the laboratory for chemical, physical and mechanical properties. Dip direction and joint spacing were measured using compass clinometers. The chemical composition was determined using X-ray Fluores- cence （XRF） spectrometer. The results show that gneiss has SiO2 of 61.88g and limestone has CaO content of 52.3g. The average dry density of gneiss and limestone are 2.6 and 2.39 g/cm^3, respectively. The uniaxial compressive strength of gneiss and limestone are 195 and 93.83 mPa, respectively. These rocks are classified as strong and moderately strong rock. Gneiss and limestone have mean joint discontinuity spacing of 0.79 and 0.25 m, which classified them as moderate and wide joint spacing respectively. Joint spacing was correlated with specific energy, bit wear and uniaxial compressive using Statistical Package for Social Science （SPSS）. The regression model has multiple coefficient of correlation of R^2 = 0.791 and R^2 =0.995 for gneiss and limestone, respectively. The variation in joint spacing could be attributed to spe- cific energy, bit wear and uniaxial compressive strength which affect drilling condition and performance. Ultimately, as joint spacing gets closer, the drilling velocity increases, drill string will be stable.

Origin and depositional environments of source rocks and crude oils from Niger Delta Basin: Carbon isotopic evidence

Thirty-nine crude oils and twenty-one rock samples from Niger Delta Basin,Nigeria have been characterized based on their isotope compositions by elemental analysis-isotope ratio mass spectrometry and gas chromatography-isotope ratio mass *** bulk carbon isotopic values of the whole rock extracts,saturate and aromatic fractions range from–28.7‰to–26.8‰,–29.2‰to–27.2‰and–28.5‰to–26.7‰,respectively while the bulk carbon isotopic values of the whole oils,saturate and aromatic fractions range from–25.4‰to–27.8‰,–25.9‰to–28.4‰and–23.5‰to–26.9‰,*** average carbon isotopic compositions of individual alkanes(nC12-nC33)in the rock samples range from–34.9‰to–28.2‰whereas the average isotopic values of individual n-alkanes in the oils range from–31.1‰to–23.8‰.Theδ13C isotope ratios of pristane and phytane in the rock samples range from–29.2‰to–28.2‰and–30.2‰to–27.4‰respectively while the pristane and phytane isotopic values range from–32.1‰to–21.9‰and–30.5‰to–26.9‰,*** isotopic values recorded for the samples indicated that the crude oils were formed from the mixed input of terrigenous and marine organic matter and deposited under oxic to sub-oxic condition in lacustrine-fluvial/deltaic *** stable carbon isotopic compositions were found to be effective in assessing the origin and depositional environments of crude oils in the Niger Delta Basin.
