b.ckground: Hypertension is a com.on chronic disease and an im.ortant pub.ic health prob.em. The prevention of com.lications depends on hypertension control. Aim. To assess b.ood pressure control, com.lication presence, and their influencing factors. m.thods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on patients with hypertension attending a private m.dical facility, a governm.ntal facility, and a prim.ry health care center in Khartoum. Sudan, b.tween Septem.er 2022 and Feb.uary 2023. Statistical Package for Special Sciences version 25 was used for data analysis;frequency and percentage were used to describ. the qualitative variab.es. A chi-square test was used for co-relation analysis;a P-value ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant, and the confidence interval was 95%. Results: The study included 250 participants;55.6% were m.les. Their age was 58.77 ± 6.80 years, and they had hypertension for 10.7 ± 8.51 years. The duration of the disease was 10.7 ± 8.51 years. Systolic b.ood pressure was 127.1 ± 11.3 m. hg, and diastolic b.ood pressure was 81.6 ± 7.1 m. hg. Of the participants, 76.4% had controlled hypertension, while 27.6% had com.lications due to hypertension. Controlled b.ood pressure was associated with fem.les, age group 40 - 60 years, norm.l waist circum.erence, and high adherence level (P ≤ 0.05). The presence of com.lications was associated with m.les, participants older than 60 years, and a low adherence level (P ≤ 0.05). Conclusions: In Sudan, the level of control is good;nonetheless, not all patients achieve it. Availab.lity and access to treatm.nt facilities and m.dications should b. im.roved. Proper patient counseling should b. offered, as well as continuous care.

The aim.of the present study was to determ.ne the prevalence of b.vine cysticercosis in b.th cattle and b.ffloas, in Egypt and to assess the cysticidal efficacy of b.lanites aegyptiaca fruits (b. aegyptiaca) and m.ringa oleifera seeds (m. oleifera) extracts in experim.ntally infected m.ce. The study detected the level of tum.r necrosis factor (TNF-α) to m.nitor the im.une and inflam.atory responses of experim.ntally infected m.ce. Through m.at inspection, a total num.er of 2125 m.le b.vine, 2 to 5 years old, (1125 cattle and 1000 b.ffloes) were exam.ned under the authority of Alb.atine and Alwaraq official ab.ttoirs in Cairo Governorate, Egypt covering the period extended from.m.rch 2022 to April 2023. The overall prevalence of the disease am.ng b.vine was 7.8% (6.31% of cattle and 9.5% of b.ffloes). b.sides, b. aegyptiaca and m. oleifera extracts showed cysticidal activity in experim.ntally infected m.ce. A decrease in the num.ers of cysticerci was found in all treated m.ce groups, and up to 88% reduction was achieved in the b. aegyptiaca-treated group;higher than that was recorded in b.th m. oleifera (72.23%) and alb.ndazole-treated ones (80.56%). Postm.rtem.findings proved that m. oleifera and b. aegyptiaca reduced cysticerci num.ers com.arab.e to a com.ercial anthelm.ntic. The study showed a significant decrease (P 0.001) in TNF-α levels after treatm.nt with b.lanites and m.ringa extracts, com.ared with the untreated control and the alb.ndazole-treated groups.

Research b.ckground: The high prevalence of diab.tes in Sudan, estim.ted at 16%, highlights the im.ortance of effective health education in diab.tes m.nagem.nt. Diab.tes self-m.nagem.nt education has b.en identified as a crucial tool in enhancing the knowledge, attitudes, and ab.lities necessary for self-m.nagem.nt am.ng individuals with diab.tes. Aim. To assess the im.act of diab.tes self-m.nagem.nt education on m.dication adherence and glycem.c control in Sudanese adults with type 2 diab.tes b.fore and 3 m.nths after the DSm. intervention. m.thod: The study was conducted in Sudan b.tween Septem.er 2022 and m.rch 2023, it was an interventional, one-group, pre- and post-test study that aim.d to assess the im.act of diab.tes self-m.nagem.nt education (DSm.) on m.dication adherence and diab.tes control in Sudanese adults with type 2 diab.tes. The research was conducted in prim.ry health care centers in six cities in Sudan and involved 244 participants. The data entry and statistical analysis were conducted using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 27.0. A paired t test was used for analysis. Results: The study included 244 participants, 67% of whom.were m.les. The age m.an ± SD was 48.6 ± 9.3 years, and 85.3% of participants were m.rried. Age at onset of diab.tes m.an ± SD was 40.60 ± 7.81 years;44.6% had diab.tes for less than 5 years;and 84.1% had a positive fam.ly history of diab.tes m.llitus. The levels of poor, low, and partial adherence to m.dication decreased b. 8.2%, 4%, and 20.6%, respectively, after the intervention. The levels of good and high m.dication regim. adherence increased b. 13% and 19.8%, respectively;b.0} decreased b. 1.1 ± 0.73 kg/m.sup>2 (p = 0.005). The fasting b.ood sugar decreased b. 69 ± 32.9 m./dl (p = 0.049), and the glycated hem.glob.n decreased b. 1.21 ± 0.28% (p = 0.001). Conclusions: The findings of this study reinforce the im.ortance of patient education in im.roving glycem.c control and enhancing self-m.nagem.nt

Influence of m.tab.lic Syndrom. versus m.sculoskeletal Disorders on Saudi Health-Related Quality of Life

Aim. This work aim.d to study the influence of two chronic health conditions, m.tab.lic syndrom. (m.tS) and m.sculoskeletal disorders (m.Ds), on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of Saudis. m.thod: The m.dical Outcom.s Study Short Form.36 (SF-36) health status questionnaire was used to m.asure the HRQoL and com.are the m.an scores of the questionnaire sub.cales and physical and m.ntal com.onent sum.aries (PCS and m.S) of 33 patients with m.tS, 18 patients with m.Ds, and 30 apparently healthy (AH) sub.ects. Regression analysis was used to m.asure the prediction power of the study group, age and gender of the participants in estim.ting the HRQoL. Results: Results showed that the m.an scores of the physical sub.cales, the PCS, the m.ntal sub.cales and m.S were arranged in descending order from.AH sub.ects, patients with m.tS, to patients with m.Ds. The m.an scores difference am.ng the 3 study groups were statistically significant with the only exception for the general m.ntal health (Gm.) sub.cale (P = 0.404). The study group and age accounted for 41.8% of the variab.lity of PCS while the study group accounted for 19.6% of the variab.lity in the m.S. The resulted equation to estim.te the PCS score was as follows: PCS = 113.18 - 12.85 (Group: 0 for AH, 1 for m.tS, and 2 for m.Ds) - 0.67 age. On the other hand the resulted equation to estim.te the m.S score was as follows: m.S = 76.203 - 10.426 (Group: 0 for AH, 1 for m.tS, and 2 for m.Ds). Conclusion: Patients with m.tS and patients with m.Ds had lower HRQoL than AH sub.ects. All the physical and m.ntal dim.nsions of HRQoL are negatively influenced with m.tS and with m.Ds with the only exception for the Gm. sub.cale. The physical and m.ntal b.rden of m.Ds is m.re dom.nant. The study group and age can b. used to predict the PCS while the study group can b. used to predict the m.S.

Synthesis and characterization of lithium.niob.um.b.rate glasses containing neodym.um

A series of（90–x）Li2b.O7-10Nb.O5-xNd2O3 glass sam.les（x=0, 5 m.l.%, 10 m.l.%, 15 m.l.%, 20 m.l.% and 25 m.l.%） were synthesized using m.lt quenching technique. X-ray diffraction（XRD）, differential therm.l analyzer（DTA）, Fourier transform.d infrared（FTIR）, ultraviolet-visib.e-near-infrared（UV-Vis-NIR） spectrom.ter and photolum.nescence（PL） spectroscopic characterizations were m.de to exam.ne the influence of Nd3＋ concentration on the physical, structural and optical properties. Various physical properties such as glasses density, m.lar volum., therm.l stab.lity, ion concentration, polar on radius, inter-nuclear distance, field strength, cut-off wavelength, energy b.nd gap and Urb.ch energy were calculated. The sam.les were am.rphous in nature and confirm.d from.XRD pattern. The FTIR spectra revealed the presence of b.3 and b.4 functional groups. UV-Vis-NIR spectra exhib.ted nine prom.nent b.nds centered at 353, 430, 475, 524, 583, 681, 745, 803, 875 nm.corresponding to the transitions from.the ground state to ^4D（3/2）, ^2P（1/2）, ^2G（9/2）, ^4G（7/2）, ^4G（5/2）, ^4F（9/2）, ^4F（7/2）, ^4F（5/2）, ^4F（3/2） excited states, respectively. m.reover, the em.ssion spectra at 355 nm.excitation displayed three peaks centered at 903 nm.^4F（3/2）→^4I（9/2））, 1059 nm.^4F（3/2）→^4I（11/2）） and 1333 nm.^4F（3/2）→^4I（13/2））, respectively. Fluorescence lifetim. was recorded b.tween 53.69 to 28.43 μs. It was found that varying concentration of Nd^（3＋） ions strongly affected the physical, structural and optical properties of the glass sam.les.

b.ckground: Coronavirus disease 2019, otherwise known as COVID-19, em.rged in Decem.er of 2019. COVID-19 spreads through an airb.rne transm.ssion route. Preventive m.asures were describ.d to help decrease the spread of COVID-19 worldwide. There were a num.er of preventive m.asures that were glob.lly adopted: social distance of at least 1 m.ter, m.sk wearing, washing hands for 20 seconds, and covering the m.uth and nose if the person sneezes or coughs. m.thods: A descriptive cross-sectional study am.ng 362 students from.the International University of Africa, Sudan, was carried out b.tween August 2021 and Septem.er 2022. Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 26 was used for data analysis;frequency and percentage were used to describ. the qualitative variab.es. A chi-square test was used for association analysis;a P-value ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Am.ng study participants, the fem.les were 70.9%;m.st were 20 - 23 years old (73.6%). 54.2% were vaccinated against COVID-19;83.6% had good knowledge regarding the m.de of transm.ssion, and 76.1% stayed in during quarantine. 80.6% of participants understood social distancing correctly. 76.1% of m.les and 45.1% of fem.les started or com.leted vaccination (P ≤ 0.05). 51.4% of m.les and 81.3% of fem.les adhered to preventive m.asures (P ≤ 0.05). Conclusions: It is im.ortant to target health education cam.aigns and interventions to im.rove adherence to preventive m.asures am.ng university students. Although the pandem.c is com.ng to an end, a lesson should b. learned from.it, and future preparation should b. em.loyed.

b.ckground: While causing a financial and econom.c loss in m.ny countries in a few m.nths, COVID 19 was of great im.act on pub.ic health. The Iraqi governm.nt took several m.asures since the first Iraqi case was discovered in Feb.uary 2020. One of the fundam.ntal m.asures to control this pandem.c is social isolation, which depends greatly on people’s awareness to decrease the incidence of COVID-19. Ob.ectives: To study the COVID-19-effect on dentists’ social life and their future plan, and to find the relation b.tween that effect and som. dentists’ dem.graphic variab.es. m.thods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from.2nd January to 7th m.y 2021, b. an electronic version of the questionnaire through Google form. With facilitating orders delivered to all the specialist dental centers for adults of Al-Resafa health directorate;any dentists working in specialist dental centers for adults of Al-Resafa health directorate, and accept to participate in this study. Results: A total of 10 specialist dental centers for adults of the Al-Resafa health directorate represent 566/628 dentists enrolled in this study with a response rate of 88.99%. m.st of them.aged less than 30 years old (62.2%), fem.le (60.6%), m.rried status (50.4%), had 1 - 3 children (71.91%), Rotator (51.1%), with less than five years of experience (61.3%). Conclusion: COVID-19 affected so m.ny aspects of health workers’ lives including dentists. Ab.ut two-thirds of dentists had negative feelings, of which alm.st all had anxiety. Younger ages, fem.les, m.rried and having children are factors that contrib.te to the affection of dental social lives m.re than other categories.
