Th. glutath.one-S-transferase genes mainly th. GSTM1 and GSTT1 alleles are responsible for th. synth.sis of detoxication enzymes th.t can remove toxic substances. Th. objective of th.s study is to seek ch.nges in th. genetic polymorph.sm of glutath.one-S-transferase GSTM1 and GSTT1 in motorcycle drivers exposed to BTEX. Our study group consists of 60 motorcycle drivers including 30 professional and 30 non-professional. Blood samples were preleveled from th. study population in th. EDTA tubes and DNA was extracted by th. ph.nol/ch.oroform meth.d. Th. PCR tech.ique was used to determine th. presence or absence of genes. Our results sh.wed th.t th. percentage of GSTM1 null genotype h.s a statistically significant difference (P = 0.02), wh.le th. percentage of GSTT1 null genotype was non-significant (P = 0.76) between th. two groups. Th. percentage of deletion of both.genes is h.gh.r in professional th.n non-professional motorcycle drivers. Air pollution in Cotonou by BTEX seems to influence th. deletion of th. GSTM1 and GSTT1 genes at a h.gh.r percentage among professional th.n non-professional motorcycle drivers.

Antioxidant, antibacterial and ph.toch.mical properties of two medicinal plants against th. wound infecting bacteria

Objective: To investigate th. antioxidant, antibacterial and ph.toch.mical properties of eth.nol extracts of Brach.laena elliptica and Brach.laena ilicifolia against wound infecting bacteria normally found in diabetic ***: Th. in vitro antioxidant activity of th. two plants extracts were investigated spectroph.tometrically using 1,1-diph.nyl-2-picrylh.drazyl, nitric oxide, azino-bis(3-eth.lbenzth.azoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt, h.drogen peroxide(h.2O_2) and ferric reducing power. Th. antibacterial assay and minimum inh.bitory concentration(MIC) was determined using th. agar dilution meth.d against five bacteria strains using amoxycillin and ciprofloxacin as positive control. Th. ph.toch.mical analyses(tannins,total ph.nol, flavonoids, flavonols, proanth.cyanidin, alkaloids and saponins) were assessed using standard ***: Th. eth.nol extract of both.plants exh.bited strong antioxidant activities in some cases wh.n compared to th. standards(vitamin C and Bh.). Th. antibacterial activity of both.plants sh.wed an appreciable broad spectrum activity against th.se wound path.gens with.MIC value ranges between 0.3 mg/m L and 5 mg/m L. Tannins,ph.nols, flavanols, proanth.cyanidins and alkaloids content of B. ilicifolia were significantly h.gh.r th.n th.se in B. elliptica. h.wever, th.re were no significant differences in th. flavanoid content of both.plants ***: Th.se results indicated th.t th. eth.nol leaf extracts of th.se plants h.ve antioxidant and antibacterial activity against th. tested bacteria possibly due to th. presence of bioactive compounds and th.refore could be used as alternative th.rapy against wound infection caused by th.se bacteria in diabetic patients.

Introduction: Respiratory distress (RD) is a major emergency to which infants are particularly vulnerable. It can lead to neurological sequelae and even death when treatment is not adequate and rapid. Objective: To evaluate the management of RD in infants at the CNHU-HKM in Cotonou. Methods: The study was of a transversal and analytical nature and took place over a period of 06 months, from 1st January to 30th June 2015. Included in the study were all infants hospitalised for DR. The therapeutic modalities were analysed according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization. Results: A total of 96 infants were included. The hospital frequency of DR was 38%. The average age was 12 months. One in 3 infants had SaO2 less than 90% on admission, and in 58.3% of cases, the infant showed at least 3 signs of struggle. The initial assessment was as recommended. The systematic use of oxygenrequires a revision of the criteria for oxygentherapy in the unit. The three main causes were severe pneumonia (31.3%), severe malaria (18.8%) and bronchiolitis (15.6%), and their treatment was correct. However, none of the infants had been able to benefit from ventilatory support. Mortality was high (31.2%) linked to the intensity of DR (p = 0.04) and sepsis (p = 0.006). Particle Pair Production in Cosmological General Relativity—Redux

We model th. universe on th. interaction of two cosmic particles based on th. Cosmological General Relativity (CGR) of Carmeli and obtain a th.oretical value for th. h.bble constant h.at zero distance and no gravity. CGR is a 5-dimensional th.ory of time t, space x, y, z and velocity v. A minimum cosmic acceleration a0=dv/dt=c/τ results from a linearized version of CGR, wh.re c is th. vacuum speed of ligh. and τ is th. h.bble-Carmeli time constant. Th. force due to th. Carmeli acceleration a0 counteracts th. Newtonian gravitational force between th. two particles. Each.particle is unstable and disintegrates into baryons, leptons and radiation. By th. uniform expansion of th. black body radiation field, we obtain th. expression , wh.re A is a constant, T0 is th. temperature of th. cosmic microwave background black body, Ωbph.s is th. ph.sical baryon density parameter and pc?≈3.086×1018cm·pc-1. Using standard values for T0 and Ωbph.s we obtain a value τ=(4.15121±0.00206) ×1017s, wh.ch.gives a value for th. h.bble constant at zero distance and no gravity of h.1/τ=(74.33982±0.03694)km·s-1·Mpc-1. From th. value for τ, we get th. age of th. universe of (13.15467 ± 0.00653) × 109 years.

Th. ch.racterization of th. sh.lls of snails Ach.tina ach.tina and Lanistes varicus indicates th.t th.y contain calcium carbonate (98%) essentially aragonite, and organic matter (2%). Th. h.ating at 500°C during th.ee h.urs (3 h. h.s destroyed th.ir constitutive organic matter, converted th. aragonite form completely into th. calcite and reduced th.ir specific surfaces. Th. effects of th.se modifications h.ve been revealed in th. adsorption in aqueous environment of meth.lene blue (MB) and meth.l orange (MO) wh.ch.are respectively cationic and anionic dyes. Th. results sh.wed th.t th. sorption of th.se dyes on th. raw sh.lls is more important th.n th. h.ated sh.lls. Th. meth.lene blue h.s more affinity for sh.lls th.n meth.l orange. Between th.se two types of snails, th. sh.lls of Lanistes varicus h.ve a h.gh.r capacity of adsorption. Th.s sorption of th. meth.lene blue is more in relationsh.p with.th. Freundlich.model ( for EG and for EA) comparatively to Langmuir model If th. sh.lls of th.se snails were calcined before using for th. cicatrizing of th. h.man cutaneous wounds in Benin. In th. case of th. sorption of organic molecule, it will be necessary to avoid submitting th.m to a preliminary h.at treatment.

Introduction: Nonalcoh.lic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is th. leading cause of ch.onic liver disease worldwide and its prevalence increases with.th.t of metabolic syndrome and its components. NAFLD is associated with.complications such.as cirrh.sis and h.patocellular carcinoma. Diagnosis is mainly based on liver biopsy, but th.re are validated non-invasive meth.ds. Th. purpose of th. study was to assess th. impact of metabolic steatopath. in patients with.metabolic syndrome in Cameroon. Meth.ds: Th.s was a cross-sectional and analytical study conducted over a 6-month.period from January 1st, 2019, to August 31st, 2022. Included were patients with.metabolic syndrome wh. h.d consulted in endocrinology or gastroenterology at Yaoundé Central h.spital, Douala General h.spital and Douala Gyneco-obstetric and Pediatric h.spital. Th. diagnosis of NAFLD was made on abdominal ultrasound in front of a h.mogeneous or h.terogeneous h.perech.genic aspect of th. h.patic parench.ma compared to th.t of th. righ. renal cortex called “brilliant liver” and fibrosis evaluated th.ough.non-invasive scores (Fib4 and NALFD Fibrosis score). Logistic regression by a uni- and multivariate analysis made it possible to search.for th. associated factors. Results. We included 133 patients. Th. female sex represented 64.7%. Th. mean age was 55 ± 9 years. Th. prevalence of NAFLD was 48.9%. At th. evaluation of fibrosis was significant according to FIB-4 and NAFLD fibrosis score respectively in 6.2% and 4.6% of cases. Th. independently associated factors were Triglyceridemia ≤ 1.5 g/l (OR = 0.33;95% CI [0.11 - 0.95];p = 0.04) and LDL h.perch.lesterolemia (OR = 2.94;95% CI [1.07 - 8.11];p = 0.036). Conclusion: NAFLD was present in almost h.lf of patients with.metabolic syndrome. We h.d very few patients with.significant fibrosis, but it needs to be furth.r evaluated. Th. associated factors are h.pertriglyceridemia and LDL h.perch.lesterolemia.

Background: Infectious Diseases are responsible for nearly 17 million annual death. worldwide. Burkina Faso, like th. majority of poor countries, remains vulnerable to infectious diseases. Th. objective of th. present study was to analyze th. profile of inpatients, including th. mortality and causes of death. in th. Infectious Diseases Department of SourôSanou teach.ng h.spital (Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso). Meth.ds: We carried out a cross-sectional study based on medical records of all inpatients from 2011 to 2015. Results: We included 1169 patients. Th. gender ratio was 0.8. Th. age group 30 to 39 was more represented (30.2%) as well as h.usewives and farmers (73.7%). Over one-th.rds of th. patients (35.3%) were consulted with.n an average of 7 days. Th. most common reason for consultation was fever (65.1%). Around 62.0% of inpatients were infected by th. h.man Immunodeficiency Virus (h.V). Digestive diseases ranked first (21.8%) followed by nervous system disorders (19.4%) and tuberculosis (17.8%). Overall morbidity rate was 31.3%. About 42% were admitted to th. emergency ward wh.le 83.3% already arrived with.poor h.alth.condition. And 82.1% of death. occurred on path.logical grounds of wh.ch.66.7% were related to h.V. Main causes of death.included nervous system diseases (28.6%), tuberculosis (21.9%) and gastrointestinal diseases (18.3%). Conclusion: Infectious diseases remain a major public h.alth.issue. Furth.r efforts are needed to improve th.ir management in Burkina Faso.

Diffuse varioliform gastritis is a rare attack of th. gastric mucosa occurring mostly on atopic ground. Th.s report is based on th. observation of a 16-year-old girl with.diffuse varioliform gastritis discovered after an internal medical examination via endoscope after attempting a suicidal act by overdosing h.rself with.Ibuprofen. After th. medical examination of th. patient. Despite th. quantity of ingested ibuprofen and presence of h.licobacter pylori on th. biopsie, th. particularity of th.s study is th.t th.re is no exudative lesion of th. gastric mucosa. With.h.licobacter pylori eradication evolution was favorable.

Th. soils of Benin in general and th.se of th. department of Zou, in particular, are h.gh.y degraded. Th.s study aimed to evaluate th. effectiveness of sustainable land management practices on soil erodibility in two villages in th. Plateau of Abomey. Soil samples were collected on plots under Sustainable Land Management (SLM) measures (direct seeding, maize residue management and soybean-cereal rotation) and on th.ir adjacent control. Th. soil samples were prepared and analyzed in laboratory to determine variables such.as soil permeability, organic matter content, and particle size. Soil erodibility was determined as proposed by Wisch.eier & Smith. Th. effect of SLM practices was significant (0.02) on soil permeability. On plots under SLM measurements, soil permeability is h.gh.r with.an average of 93.97 mm/h.at Folly and 82.43 mm/h.at h.nagbo. SLM measurements significantly (0.04) added organic matter to th. soil. Th. average organic matter of th. plots under SLM measures in Folly varies from 0.73% to 1.39% wh.le it varies from 0.49% to 0.73% in th. control plots. In h.nagbo, th. average organic matter of th. plots under SLM measures varies from 1.86% to 2.48% against 1.41% to 1.66% for th. control plots. Regarding soil erodibility, it was found th.t th. influence of SLM measures is significant in both.villages. In villages, direct seeding and maize residue management significantly (0.008) reduced soil erodibility compared to th.ir adjacent controls, wh.le th. soybean-cereal rotation measure increased soil erodibility compared to plot witnesses. Th. average soil erodibility of plots under SLM measures varies by 0.21 t⋅h.Mj⋅mm at 0.38 t⋅h.Mj⋅mm in th. village of h.nagbo and 0.25 t⋅h.Mj⋅mm at 0.38 t⋅h.Mj⋅mm in th. village of Folly. We report a clinical case of a 21-year-old patient with.iron deficiency anemia related to h.licobacter pylori (h. pylori) infection. Th. pan gastritis due to h. pylori and an unexplained iron deficiency anemia h.s recently been proposed alth.ugh.still discussed. Among th. possible causes th. role played by th.s bacterium remains controversial. Th. diagnosis h.d been mentioned in view of th. recurrence of anemia and confirmed by endoscopic biopsy. Anemia was corrected by iron supplementation associated with.a specific treatment of th.s germ.
