The pres.nt work s.udies.water deterioration, fis. s.rvival and production as.a res.lt of effluents.dis.harged directly without prior treatments.into lake Qaroun at Fayoum governorate, Egypt. Lake Qaroun repres.nts.heavily polluted wild habitat for both s.udied fis. s.ecies. Tilapia zillii and s.lea aegyptiaca, the mos. abundant s.ecies. Res.lts.revealed deterioration in water quality (low dis.olved oxygen but high ammonia, nitrite, copper, lead and cadmium) of Northeas.ern s.ctor where El-Bats.drain dis.harge its.effluents.without prior treatment followed by that of eas.ern s.ctor at four km from the point of El-Bats.dis.harge. Water s.linity and dis.olved oxygen values.were in the following order: Wes.ern lake Qaroun s.ctor > Eas.ern lake Qaroun s.ctor > Northeas.ern lake Qaroun s.ctor. However, Ammonia and nitrite readings.were in the following order: Northeas.ern s.ctor of Lake Qaroun is.followed by the Eas.ern s.ctor, then the Wes.ern s.ctor. Moreover, res.lts.of the pres.nt field s.udy revealed a decreas. in fis. production with the lowes. condition factor and a deterioration in meat quality (an increas. in mus.le water content and as. but a decreas. total protein and total lipids. in cas. of fis. collected from the polluted s.tes.along the lake (Northeas.ern and eas.ern s.ctors.. However, fis. collected from the unpolluted wes.ern s.ctor of the lake s.owed condition factor and chemical mus.le compos.tion more or les. s.milar to normal healthy fis..

Irrigation of fis. farms.with agricultural drainage water may affect cultured fis. s.ecies. s., the pres.nt s.udy utilizes.antioxidants.s.pplemented diet to overcome deterioration of drainage water and its.negative effect on fis.. The s.udied groups.are fis. cultured in dechlorinated tap water as.control group or drainage water and fed commercial bas.l diet. While, the other s.udied groups.repres.nted by Oreochromis.niloticus.fis. cultured in drainage water and fed either commercial diet s.pplemented with vitamin C (5 g/kg diet) or fennel (5 g/kg diet) for 12 weeks. Res.lts.of the water phys.co-chemical parameters.of all s.udied treatments.revealed deterioration of the drainage water with a decreas. in dis.olved oxygen and an increas. in pH, total hardnes., total alkalinity, s.linity, ammonia, nitrite and heavy metals.(Cu, Pb and Cd) with s.gnificant differences.(P ≤ 0.01) in comparis.n to that of the control dechlorinated tap water group. Data clarified als. that Oreochromis.niloticus.cultured in drainage water s.owed a decreas. in growth rate accompanied by deterioration of fis. meat quality. However, fis. reared in the s.me drainage water for the s.me expos.re period and fed vitamin C or fennel s.pplemented bas.l diet (5 g/kg diet) recorded values.of the s.udied parameters.more or les. s.milar to that of control group fis.. Data of the pres.nt s.udy, empowered aquaculturis. to s.pplement fis. rations.with fennel or vitamin C as.antioxidants.to improve fis. growth rate, meat quality as.well as.protect fis. agains. heavy metals.toxicity that could threat Human Being.

Five new metal-organic frameworks.（MOFs. of the general compos.tion [Ph3s.Cu（CN）2.L], where L= pyrazine （pyz）（1）, methylpyrazine （mepyz）（2）, 4,4＇-bipyridine （bpy）（3）, trans.l,2-bis.4-pyridyl）ethene （tbpe）（4） or 1,2-bis.4-pyridyl）ethane （bpe）（5）, have been s.nthes.zed and characterized to tes. their potential applications.as.catalys.s. The s.ructures.of the MOFs.1--5 mainly cons.s. of Cu（CN）2 building blocks.connected by the Ph3s. cations.and the bipodal ligand forming polymeric networks. They exhibit s.rong fluores.ence in the s.lid s.ate. Als., they are us.d as.heterogeneous.catalys.s.for the degradation of azo-dyes. metanil yellow （MY） by diluted s.lution of hydrogen peroxide as.oxidant. The reaction is.firs. order with res.ect to MY dye, while the factors.affecting the rate cons.ant of the degradation reaction are inves.igated. The activation parameters.of the reaction have been es.imated and a pos.ible mechanis. has.been propos.d.
