Biometric authentication is a rapidly growing trend that is gaining increasing attention in the last decades.It achieves safe access to systems using biometrics instead of the traditional passwords.The utilization of a biometric in its original format makes it usable only once.Therefore,a cancelable biometric template should be used,so that it can be replaced when it is attacked.Cancelable biometrics aims to enhance the security and privacy of biometric authentication.Digital encryption is an efficient technique to be used in order to generate cancelable biometric templates.In this paper,a highly-secure encryption algorithm is proposed to ensure secure biometric data in verification systems.The considered biometric in this paper is the speech signal.The speech signal is transformed into its spectrogram.Then,the spectrogram is encrypted using two cascaded optical encryption algorithms.The first algorithm is the Optical Scanning Holography(OSH)for its efficiency as an encryption tool.The OSH encrypted spectrogram is encrypted using Double Random Phase Encoding(DRPE)by implementing two Random Phase Masks(RPMs).After the two cascaded optical encryption algorithms,the cancelable template is obtained.The verification is implemented through correlation estimation between enrolled and test templates in their encrypted format.If the correlation value is larger than a threshold value,the user is authorized.The threshold value can be determined from the genuine and imposter correlation distribution curves as the midpoint between the two curves.The implementation of optical encryption is adopted using its software rather than the optical setup.The efficiency of the proposed cancelable biometric algorithm is illustrated by the simulation results.It can improve the biometric data security without deteriorating the recognition accuracy.Simulation results give close-to-zero This values for the Equal Error Rate(EER)and close-to-one values for the Area under Receiver Operator Characteristic(AROC)curve.

Intralabyrinthine schwannomas(ILS)are rare benign tumors,often responsible for hearing loss.MRI is important in establishing the diagnosis.We present the example of a 48-year-old lady who reported a 3-years history of right-sided sensorineural deafness.MRI demonstrated a loss of the normal hypersignal of the second turn of the right cochlea compatible with intracochlear schwannoma.

Amination of biochar surface from watermelon peel for toxic chromium removal enhancement

Watermelon peel residues were used to produce a new biochar by dehydration method.The new biochar has undergone two methods of chemical modification and the effect of this chemical modification on its ability to adsorb Cr(VI)ions from aqueous solution has been investigated.Three biochars,Melon-B,Melon-BO-NH_(2) and Melon-BO-TETA,were made from watermelon peel via dehydration with 50%sulfuric acid to give Melon-B followed by oxidation with ozone and amination using ammonium hydroxide to give Melon-BO-NH_(2) or Triethylenetetramine(TETA)to give Melon-BO-TETA.The prepared biochars were characterized by BET,BJH,SEM,FT-IR,TGA,DSC and EDAX analyses.The highest removal percentage of Cr(VI)ions was 69%for Melon-B,98%for Melon-BO-NH_(2) and 99%for Melon-BO-TETA biochars of 100 mg·L^(−1) Cr(VI)ions initial concentration and 1.0 g·L^(−1) adsorbents dose.The unmodified biochar(Melon-B)and modified biochars(Melon-BO-NH_(2) and Melon-BO-TETA)had maximum adsorption capacities(Q_(m))of 72.46,123.46,and 333.33 mg·g^(−1),respectively.The amination of biochar reduced the pore size of modified biochar,whereas the surface area was enhanced.The obtained data of isotherm models were tested using different error function equations.The Freundlich,Tempkin and Langmuir isotherm models were best fitted to the experimental data of Melon-B,Melon-BO-NH_(2) and Melon-BO-TETA,respectively.The adsorption rate was primarily controlled by pseudo-second–order rate model.Conclusively,the functional groups interactions are important for adsorption mechanisms and expected to control the adsorption process.The adsorption for the Melon-B,Melon-BO-NH_(2) and Melon-BO-TETA could be explained for acid–base interaction and hydrogen bonding interaction.

Distribution and ecological risk assessment of some heavy metals in coastal surface sediments along the Red Sea,Egypt

The ecological risk assessment for Al,Zn,Cu,Ni,V,Pb,Cd,and Hg in surface sediment collected from the Egyptian Red Sea coast was evaluated using the Geo-accumulation Index(I).Sediment Enrichment Factor(SEF) and Potential Ecological Risk Index(PERI) methods.The predominant heavy metal,aluminum,showed high concentrations along both of Aqaba Gulf(4378.8 ± 2554.1 μg/g) and southern part of the Red Sea(2972.8 + 1527.5 μg/g).while it recorded the lowest concentration in Suez Gulf(829.7 ± 398.2 μg/g).The determined heavy metal concentrations had the order of Al > Zn >-Ni > V > Pb > Cu > Cd > Hg.The statistical analyses showed some correlations among the heavy metals contents.Several international sediment quality guidelines were used to estimate the quality of the collected sediments.Interestingly,the recorded average heavy metals concentrations were lower than those of the permissible contents for sediment quality guidelines.The Geo-accumulation index calculations(I) proved that the investigated region could be classified as an unpolluted area.Sediment Enrichment Factor(K) study showed high values in Suez Gulf region.The single pollution index analysis of heavy metals in the sediments(C~i) indicated that Al,Zn,V,and Pb were of natural origin,while Ni,Cd and Hg were seriously affected by human activities.Interestingly,amongst,all the determined heavy metals,Cd and Hg gave moderate ecological risk indicators.

Plants have to cope with several abiotic stresses,including salinity and heavymetals(HMs).Under these stresses,several extracts have been used as effective natural biostimulants,however,the use of Spirulina platensis(SP)extract(SPE)remains elusive.The effects of SPE were evaluated as soil addition(SA)and/or foliar spraying(FS)on antioxidant defenses and HMs content of common bean grown in saline soil contaminated with HMs.Individual(40 or 80 mg SPE/hill added as SA or 20 or 40 mg SPE/plant added as FS)or integrative(SA+FS)applications of SPE showed significant improvements in the following order:SA-80+FS-40>SA-80+FS-20>SA-40+FS-40>SA-40+FS-20>SA-80>SA-40>FS-40>FS-20>control.Therefore,the integrative SA+FS with 40 mg SP/plant was the most effective treatment in increasing plant growth and production,overcoming stress effects and minimizing contamination of the edible part.It significantly increased plant growth(74%–185%)and yield(107%–227%)by enhancing net photosynthetic rate(78.5%),stomatal conductance(104%),transpiration rate(124%),and contents of carotenoids(60.0%),chlorophylls(49%–51%),and NPK(271%–366%).These results were concurrent with the marked reductions in malondialdehyde(61.6%),hydrogen peroxide(42.2%),nickel(91%–94%),lead(80%–9%),and cadmium(74%–91%)contents due to the improved contents of glutathione(87.1%),ascorbate(37.0%),andα-tocopherol(77.2%),and the activities of catalase(18.1%),ascorbate peroxidase(18.3%),superoxide dismutase(192%),and glutathione reductase(52.2%)as reinforcing mechanisms.Therefore,this most effective treatment is recommended to mitigate the stress effects of salinity and HMs on common bean production while minimizing HMs in the edible part.

Changing dietary n-6:n-3 ratio using different oil sources affects performance,behavior,cytokines mRNA expression and meat fatty acid profile of broiler chickens

Typical formulated broiler diets are deficient in n-3 poly-unsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) due to widening n-6:n-3 PUFA ratio which could greatly affect performance,immune system of birds and,more importantly,meat quality.This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of modifying dietary n-6:n-3 PUFA ratio from plant and animal oil sources on performance,behavior,cytokine m RNA expression,antioxidative status and meat fatty acid profile of broiler chickens.Birds(n=420) were fed 7 diets enriched with different dietary oil sources and ratios as follows: sunflower oil in control diet(C); fish oil(FO); 1:1 ratio of sunflower oil to FO(C1 FO1); 3:1 ratio of sunflower oil to fish oil(C3 FO1); linseed oil(LO); 1:1 ratio of sunflower oil to linseed oil(C1 LO1); 3:1 ratio of sunflower oil to linseed oil(C3 LO1),resulting in dietary n-6:n-3 ratios of approximately 40:1,1.5:1,4:1,8:1,1:1,2.5:1 and 5:1,respectively.The best final body weight,feed conversion ratio as well as protein efficiency ratio of broilers were recorded in the C1 FO1 and C1 LO1 groups.Compared with the control group,the dressing percentage and breast and thigh yield were highest in the C1 FO1 and C1 LO1 groups.Narrowing the dietary n-6:n-3 ratio increased(P elative m RNA expression of interferon gamma,interleukin-1 beta,interleukin-2 and interleukin-6 genes,especially at low n-6:n-3 r

New Ulva lactuca Algae Based Chitosan Bio-composites for Bioremediation of Cd(II)Ions

The current article covers the production of chitosan(CS)from shells of shrimp waste and its utilization in the preparation of eco-friendly imprinting and non-imprinting composites with Ulva lactuca algae(Alg).These bio-composites namely(Imp-Alg-25wt%CS)and(NImp-Alg-25wt%CS)were used for removal of Cd(II)ions.Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR)spectra,scanning electron microscope(SEM)equipped with electron dispersive X-ray(EDX),X-ray diffraction(XRD),and elemental analysis measurements were performed to characterize these bio-composites sorbents.The highest adsorption of these sorbents towards Cd(II)ions was determined as a function of solutions pH,contact time,Cd(II)ion concentration,beads dose,and temperature.The equilibrium experimental data were treated using various mathematical isotherm and kinetic models to approve the maximum bio-sorption capacities of NImp-Alg-25wt%CS and Imp-Alg-25wt%CS(in mg/g).The results exhibited that Imp-Alg-25wt%CS gave higher removal capacity than NImp-Alg-25wt%CS at the same optimum parameters.Pseudo-2nd order dynamic and Langmuir isotherm models were well described in these biosorption processes.Thermodynamically,the removal behavior of Cd(II)using both bio-composites was spontaneous at room temperature.The reusability of the sorbents,NImp-Alg-25wt%CS and Imp-Alg-25wt%CS,showed three cycles.In addition,comparative study was also conducted for Cd(II)removal onto some reported sorbents.

Burden of pediatric influenza A virus infection post swine-flu H1N1pandemic in Egypt

Objectne:To screen children with influenza like illness or with symptoms of acute respiratory tract infections for influenza A virus infection-post swine flu pandemic era-using rapid influenza diagnostic tests.Methods:During two year,(2010&2011),1200 children with influenza like illness or acute respiratory tract infections(according to World Health Organization criteria)were recruited.Their ages ranged from 2-60 months.Nasopharyngeal aspirates specimens were collected from all children for rapid influenza A diagnostic test.Results:Influenza A virus rapid test was positive in 47.5%of the children;the majority(89.6%)were presented with lower respiratory tract infections.Respiratory rate and temperature were significantly higher among positive rapid influenza test patients.Conclusions:Influenza A virus infection is still a major cause of respiratory tract infections in Egyptian children.It should be considered in all cases with cough and febrile episodes and influenza like symptoms even post swine flu pandemic.

Different Methods of Analysis for the Identification of Materials Dated to Different Periods in Egypt

Different questions may be raised during the course of analysis concerning in particular the characterization of materials used, their preparation and application techniques. The different methods used to identify the materials of mud brick, limestone, plaster, mortar and pigments, collected from different sites and periods from Egypt, in order to identify and characterize the materials, their structure, composition and their mineralogical compounds were: (Op) optical microscopy, which was used to examine and to identify the materials structures. Methods used in initial examination were: (1) (MCA): Micro-chemical analysis, to identify the nature of the materials and for water-soluble salts, to identify sulphates, chlorides, carbonates, nitrites and nitrates; (2) (SM): Standard methods of wet chemical analysis were used to identify the quantitative and qualitative nature of the, mud building, mortars and their mixtures; (3) (SEM & EDS): Analytical scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive X-ray analysis system was used to examine the micro-morphology and determine the chemical composition of the different materials; (4) (XRD & XRPD): X-ray diffraction to identify the mineralogical compound of the plaster, limestone, mortars and pigments used. From all the results obtained, it was possible to establish the nature of the mortars and their binders as well as some other inclusion. In addition to the identification of the stratigraphy of the layers applied in some samples, the examination and analysis gave details of the materials and the approximate ratio of the amount of additives used. Furthermore, the mineralogical analysis provided information on the main mineralogical phases present in the materials analyzed from the different periods.

Characterization and Catalytic Activity of New Metal-organic Frameworks Resulted from Self-assembly of Ph3SnCI, K[Cu（CN）2] and Nitrogen Donor Ligands

Five new metal-organic frameworks （MOFs） of the general composition [Ph3SnCu（CN）2.L], where L= pyrazine （pyz）（1）, methylpyrazine （mepyz）（2）, 4,4＇-bipyridine （bpy）（3）, trans-l,2-bis（4-pyridyl）ethene （tbpe）（4） or 1,2-bis（4-pyridyl）ethane （bpe）（5）, have been synthesized and characterized to test their potential applications as catalysts. The structures of the MOFs 1--5 mainly consist of Cu（CN）2 building blocks connected by the Ph3Sn cations and the bipodal ligand forming polymeric networks. They exhibit strong fluorescence in the solid state. Also, they are used as heterogeneous catalysts for the degradation of azo-dyes, metanil yellow （MY） by diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide as oxidant. The reaction is first order with respect to MY dye, while the factors affecting the rate constant of the degradation reaction are investigated. The activation parameters of the reaction have been estimated and a possible mechanism has been proposed.
