Microcapillary cell extrusion deposition with picolitre dispensing resolution

Extrusion-based cell deposition has become a prominent technique for expanding bioprinting ***,the associated print resolution in the order of nanolitre or above has been a limiting *** demand for improving print resolution towards the scale of a single cell has driven the development of precision nozzle extrusion,although the benefits gained remain ***,aided by in situ imaging,we investigated the dynamics of cell organisation through an extrusion-based microcapillary tip with picolitre precision through in-air or immersion *** microcapillary extrusion setup,termed‘Picodis’,was demonstrated by generating droplets of colouring inks immersed in an immiscible ***,using 3T3 fibroblast cells as an experimental model,we demonstrated the deposition of cell suspension,and pre-aggregated cell ***,the dynamic organisation of cells within the microcapillary tip was described,along with cell ejection and deposition upon exiting the tip *** vision-assisted approach revealed that when dispersed in a culture medium,the movements of cells were distinctive based on the flow profiles and were purely driven by laminar fluid flow within a narrow *** primary process limitations were cell sedimentation,aggregation and compaction,along with trapped air *** use of picolitre-level resolution microcapillary extrusion,although it provides some level of control for a small number of cells,does not necessarily offer a reliable method when a specified number of cells are *** study provides insights into the process limitations of high-resolution cell ink extrusion,which may be useful for optimising biofabrication processes of cell-laden constructs for biomedical research.

Electromagnetic Self-Force Mechanisms and Origin of <i>R</i><sup>-1</sup>Term

An accelerating charged particle exerts a force upon itself. If we model the particle as a spherical shell of radius R, and calculate the force of one piece of this shell on another and eventually integrate over the whole particle, there will be a net force on the particle due to the breakdown of Newton’s third law. This symmetry breaking mechanism relies on the finite size of the particle;thus, as Feynman has stated, conceptually this mechanism doesn’t make good sense for point particles. Nonetheless, in the point particle limit, two terms survive in the self-force series: R0 and R-1 terms. The R0 term can alternatively be attributed to the well-known radiation reaction but the origin of R-1 term is not clear. In this study, we will show that this new term can be accounted for by an inductive mechanism in which the changing magnetic field induces an inductive force on the particle. Using this inductive mechanism, we derive R-1 term in an extremely easy way.

Parametric modeling of carbon nanotubes and estimating nonlocal constant using simulated vibration signals-ARMA and ANN based approach

Nonlocal continuum mechanics is a popular growing theory for investigating the dynamic behavior of Carbon nanotubes(CNTs).Estimating the nonlocal constant is a crucial step in mathematical modeling of CNTs vibration behavior based on this ***,in this study a vibration-based nonlocal parameter estimation technique,which can be competitive because of its lower instrumentation and data analysis costs,is *** this end,the nonlocal models of the CNT by using the linear and nonlinear theories are ***,time response of the CNT to impulsive force is derived by solving the governing equations *** using these time responses the parametric model of the CNT is constructed via the autoregressive moving average(ARMA)*** appropriate ARMA parameters,which are chosen by an introduced feature reduction technique,are considered features to identify the value of the nonlocal *** this regard,a multi-layer perceptron(MLP)network has been trained to construct the complex relation between the ARMA parameters and the nonlocal *** training the MLP,based on the assumed linear and nonlinear models,the ability of the proposed method is evaluated and it is shown that the nonlocal parameter can be estimated with high accuracy in the presence/absence of nonlinearity.

Bedload Sediment Rate Prediction for the Sand Transport Along Coastal Waters in Ocean Management Strategy

Interactions among different landforms and varied complicated physical processes cause sediment transport in coastal regions being the interest of ocean management planning studies. In coastal zones, the derivation of the bedload sediment transport rate and the flow velocity distribution is done by entropy theory which assumes the modified spatiotemporal disorder power index(MSTDPI) and the time-averaged flow velocity(as a random variable). Studying the deposition trend of bedload sediment transport rate for the sand particle(BLSTRS) and estimating the coastal erosion rate as a case study, the Makran coast is selected. To analyze the spatiotemporal patterns, the disorder power index(entropy-power) method is applied in this study where the monthly data of six Makran coastal sections from January 1970 to December 2015 are used. The studied data are mainly focused on the correlation of the flow rate of the sediment from the Makran River, and the spatiotemporal patterns of *** their meaningful spatiotemporal variability, it is not very easy to explain how the abovementioned variables perform together;the entropy-power index allows a better understanding of the combined performance of such parameters as the flow velocity and sediment transport by showing clearer signals for the assessment of coastal engineering issues at very large(coastal) scales.

CTAB-assisted fabrication of hierarchical flower-like magnesium oxide adsorbent for enhanced removal performance towards phosphate

In this work, a series of hierarchical flower-like magnesium oxide(MgO) adsorbents were successfully fabricated in a cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB) assisted solvothermal route using hexamethylenetetramine(HMTA) as a precipitating agent. Effects of CTAB feeding amount on the structure, morphology, pore structure, and corresponding adsorption behavior were investigated. The hierarchical gardenias flower-like MgO demonstrated a surface area of 336.54 m^(2)·g^(-1) at a minimum ratio of the CTAB/Mg^(2+)was 0.02 in the reaction system. The hierarchical MgO phosphate removal capacity was 348.32 mg·g^(-1), which followed the pseudo-second-order and Freundlich isotherm model obtained from the large surface area and appropriate pore size. The value of n also suggests the feasible nature of phosphate adsorption under the examined conditions. Indeed, this CTAB assisted solvothermal method can provide a new understanding to tune the desired properties of a material by merely adjusting the reaction parameters of MgO.

Computational analysis of the flow of pseudoplastic power-law fluids in a microchannel plate

The flow of pseudoplastic power-law fluids with different flow indexes at a microchannel plate was studied using computational fluid dynamic *** velocity distribution along the microchannel plate and especially in the microchannel slits,flow pattern along the outlet arc and the pressure drop through the whole of microchannel plate were investigated at different power-law flow *** results showed that the velocity profile in the microchannel slits for low flow index fluids was similar to the plug flow and had uniform *** the power-law fluids with lower flow indexes had lower stagnation zones near the outlet of the microchannel *** pressure drop through the microchannel plate showed huge differences between the *** most interesting result was that the pressure drops for power-law fluids were very smaller than that of Newtonian *** addition,the heat transfer of the fluids through the microchannel with different channel numbers in a wide range of Reynolds number was *** power-law fluid with flow index(n=0.4),the Nusselt number increases continuously as the number of channels *** results highlight the potential use of using pseudoplastic fluids in the microheat exchangers which can lower the pressure drop and increase the heat transfer efficiency.
