Effect of tool plunge depth on reinforcement particles distribution in surface composite fabrication via friction stir processing

Aluminium matrix surface composites are gaining alluring role especially in aerospace, defence, and marine industries. Friction stir processing(FSP) is a promising novel solid state technique for surface composites fabrication. In this study, AA6061/SiC surface composites were fabricated and the effect of tool plunge depth on pattern of reinforcement particles dispersion in metal matrix was investigated. Six varying tool plunge depths were chosen at constant levels of shoulder diameter and tool tilt angle to observe the exclusive effect of plunge variation. Process parameters chosen for the experimentation are speed of rotation, travel speed and tool tilt angle which were taken as 1400 rpm, 40 mm/min, and 2.5 °respectively. Macro and the microstructural study were performed using stereo zoom and optical microscope respectively. Results reflected that lower plunge depth levels lead to insufficient heat generation and cavity formation towards the stir zone center. On the other hand, higher levels of plunge depth result in ejection of reinforcement particles and even sticking of material to tool shoulder. Thus, an optimal plunge depth is needed in developing defect free surface composites.

The primary splenic lymphoma is extremely uncommon, can present with grave complications like hypersplenismand splenic rupture. In view of vague clinical presentation, it is difficult to arrive at the diagnosis. In such circumstances, histopathological diagnosis is very important. A precise diagnosis can only be made on histopathology and confirmed on immunohistochemistry.Emergency splenectomy is preferred as an effective therapeutic and diagnostic tool in cases with giant splenomegaly. Core biopsy is usually not advised due to a high risk of post-core biopsy complications in view of its high vascularity and fragility. Aim behind highlighting the topic is to specify that core biopsy/ fine needle aspiration cytology can be used as an effective diagnostic tool to arrive at correct diagnosis to prevent untoward complications related to disease and treatment. Anticoagulation therapy is vital after splenectomy to avoid portal splenic vein thrombosis.

Confocal Raman microscopy is important for characterizing 2 D materials, but its low throughput significantly hinders its applications. For metastable materials such as graphene oxide(GO), the low throughput is aggravated by the requirement of extremely low laser dose to avoid sample damage. Here we introduce algorithm-improved confocal Raman microscopy(ai-CRM), which increases the Raman scanning rate by one to two orders of magnitude with respect to state-of-the-art works for a variety of 2 D materials. Meanwhile, GO can be imaged at a laser dose that is two to three orders of magnitude lower than previously reported, such that laser-induced variations of the material properties can be avoided. ai-CRM also enables fast and spatially resolved quantitative analysis, and is readily extended to 3 D mapping of composite materials. Since ai-CRM is based on general mathematical principles, it is cost-effective, facile to implement and universally applicable to other hyperspectral imaging methods.

Objective:To investigate the antifertility effect of chronically administered Tabernaemontana divarkala(T.divaricata) leaf extract on male rats.Methods:The effect of 50%ethanol extract of T.divaricata leaves on reproduction was studied on male rats.The study was divided into four groups of five animals each.The first groups(1) received vehicle alone to serve as control. The second,third and fourth groups(Ⅱ,ⅡandⅣ) of animals were administered the leaf extract daily at 50 mg/kg body weight,p.o.,100 nig/kg body weight,p.o.,and 200 mg/kg body weight, p.o.,respectively,for a period of 60 days.Results:Significant decreases in the weight of testes, epididymis,seminal vesicle and ventral prostate were observed.A dose related reduction in the testicular sperm count,epididymal sperm count and motility,number of fertile male,ratio between delivered and inseminated females and numbers of pups were observed.The testis showed a clear correlation between the dose and severity of lesions of seminiferous epithelium. In general,the seminiferous tubules appear reduced in size with a frequently filled eosinophilic material.Spermatogenesis arrested at the secondary spermatocyte stage.Pachytene spermatocytes were undergoing degeneration.Disorganisation and sloughing of immature germ cell were visible. Leydinf cells were atrophied.No morphological changes were observed in Sertoli cells.Significant reduction in serum concentration of luteinizing hormone and testosterone were observed.No distinct change in serum FSH concentration was recorded.The final body weights of all groups were elevated markedly.No alterations were recorded in any hematologiocal parameters. Conclusions:It is concluded that the 50%ethanol extract of T.divaricata leaf produced dose related effect on male reproduction without altering general bodv metabolism.

AIM: To investigate whether fetal kidney stem cells(f KSC) ameliorate cisplatin induced acute renal failure(ARF) in rats and promote renal angiogenesis.METHODS: The f KSC were isolated from rat fetuses of gestation day 16 and expanded in vitro up to 3rd passage. They were characterized for the expression of mesenchymal and renal progenitor markers by flow cytometry and immunocytochemistry, respectively. The in vitro differentiation of f KSC towards epithelial lineage was evaluated by the treatment with specific induction medium and their angiogenic potential by matrigel induced tube formation assay. To study the effect of f KSC in ARF, f KSC labeled with PKH26 were infused in rats with cisplatin induced ARF and, the blood and renal tissues of the rats were collected at different time points. Blood biochemical parameters were studied to evaluate renal function. Renal tissues were evaluated for renal architecture, renal cell proliferation and angiogenesis by immunohistochemistry, renal cell apoptosis by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase nickend labeling assay and early expression of angiogenic molecules viz. vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF), hypoxia-inducible factor(HIF)-1α and endothelial nitric oxide synthase(eN OS) by western blot.RESULTS: The fK SC expressed mesenchymal markers viz. CD29, CD44, CD73, CD90 and CD105 as well asrenal progenitor markers viz. Wt1, Pax2 and Six2. They exhibited a potential to form CD31 and Von Willebrand factor expressing capillary-like structures and could be differentiated into cytokeratin(CK)18 and CK19 positive epithelial cells. Administration of fK SC in rats with ARF as compared to administration of saline alone, resulted in a significant improvement in renal function and histology on day 3(2.33 ± 0.33 vs 3.50 ± 0.34, P < 0.05) and on day 7(0.83 ± 0.16 vs 2.00 ± 0.25, P < 0.05). Electricity is one of the most widely used forms of energy. Being a renewable source of energy small hydropower is considered as an environment—friendly and cheap source of electricity. The installation cost of the small hydropower project depends mainly on two parts—civil works and electromechanical equipment. One of the most important element on the recovery of a small hydro-power plant is the electromechanical equipment (turbine-alternator). The present paper intends to develop a correlation to determine the cost based on the cost influencing parameters as power and head using three different methods, namely;sigma plot method, linest method and logest method. An attempt has also been made to identify the best correlation among the three models closer to the actual cost of electro-mechanical equipment as collected from recently developed projects.

Mortality characteristics during the two waves of COVID-19 in India:A retrospective observational study

Objective:To evaluate patient demographic characteristics and risk factors for mortality during the first and the second wave among COVID-19 patients in a tertiary care hospital of India.Methods:Data were taken from the hospital’s electronic system for COVID-19 patients from August 2020 to December 2020,and the second from January 2021 to May 2021.The mortality rate,demographic and clinical characteristics,laboratory profile,and reasons for the death of the two waves were retrieved and compared,and the risk factors of the two waves were determined.Results:In the first wave,1177 COVID-19 cases visited the hospital and 96(8.2%)died.In comparison,the death rate in the second wave was significantly higher(244/2038,12.0%)(P<0.001).No significant difference in age[60(50-69)vs.60.5(53-70),P=0.11]or gender(P=0.34)was observed between the two waves.Compared to the first wave.there were significantly more cases with fever,cough,weakness,loss of taste and smell,and sore throat during the second wave(P<0.05),but significantly fewer cases with kidney disease(6.6%vs.13.5%,P=0.038)and diabetes mellitus(35.7%vs.50.0%,P=0.015).Besides,during the second wave,more patients had abnormal X-ray findings,higher levels of lymphocytes and serum ferritin(P<0.05).In addition,there were significant differences in the rate of death cases with acidosis,septic shock,acute kidney injury,diabetes mellitus,cardiovascular events,hypothyroidism(P<0.05).Multivariate regression showed that during the first wave,age(OR:1.10;95%CI:1.02-1.21),diabetes mellitus(OR:3.16;95%CI:2.08-3.53),and abnormal X-ray(2.67;95%CI:2.32-2.87)were significant independent risk factors of mortality;while in the second wave,age(OR:1.13;95%CI:1.12-1.28),diabetes mellitus(OR:8.98;95%CI:1.79-45.67),abnormal X-ray(OR:12.83;95%CI:2.32-54.76),high D-dimer(OR:10.89;95%CI:1.56-134.53),and high IL-6(OR:7.89;95%CI:1.18-47.82)were significant independent risk factors of mortality.Conclusion:Overall mortality and incidence of severe diseases are higher in the second wave than the first

We are reporting a case of urothelial bladder cancer in a 36 year old male patient with no history or exposure to any risk factors.The incidence of urothelial bladder cancer is very low in young individuals i.***.below 40 years of age with reported rate of incidence around 0.1-0.4%.Most of the times,these young individuals present with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer with low grade and low stage.As the age increases,the incidence of high grade bladder cancer increases along with it.The index case presented with high grade muscle invasive bladder cancer at the time of diagnosis without any known risk factors.The 5-year survival of urothelial bladder cancer is better in young patients(93.8%)as compared to older people(85.1%).Cigarette smoking is responsible for development of bladder cancer in majority of patients followed by exposure to occupational carcinogens.Role of genetic alterations in development of bladder cancer is still under research and process of urothelial bladder carcinogenesis is unanswered in young individuals.

Objective:To evaluate the in-vitro antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of cvcloart-23- ene-3β,25-diol(called as B2) isolated from stem bark of Pongamia pinnata.Methods:In vitro antioxidant activity of B2 was determined by methods for determination of Dl’PH radical scavenging,reducing power,superoxide anion radical scavenging,hydroxyl radical scavenging, hydrogen peroxide scavenging,metal chelating and nitric oxide radical scavenging at the doses of 20.***.60.80 and 100μg/mL,respectively.3 -tocopherol with same concentration was used as a standard antioxidant.In vitro antimicrobial activity of B2 was determined by cup plate method in different concentration range of 10-100μg/mL.Results:The results indicated that dose dependent%reduction against DPPH radical,reducing power,superoxide anion radical scavenging,hydroxyl radical scavenging,metal chelating,hydrogen peroxide scavenging and nitric oxide radical scavenging by B2 andβ-tocopherol.Conclusions:It is concluded that cycloart 23-ene-3β,25 diol(B2) showed dose dependent antioxidant activity.B2 showed more DPPH radical scavenging,reducing power,superoxide scavenging,hydroxyl radical scavenging, metal chelating scavenging,hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging and nitric oxide radical scavenging activity thanβ-tocopherol and in case of antimicrobial activity B2 exhibited broad-spectrum activ ity against bacteria and strong activity against yeast type of fungi.
