Microgrids(μ-grids)are gaining increased interest around the world for supplying cheap and clean energy.In this paper,aμ-grid comprising a wind turbine generator(WTG)and diesel generator(DG)is considered.It is one of most practical and demanding systems suitable for the present energy crisis in isolated or rural areas.However,wind energy is intermittent in nature while load demand changes frequently.Therefore,aμ-grid can experience large frequency and power fluctuations.The speed governor of the DG tries to minimize the frequency and power deviations inμ-grid though its operation is slow and cannot adequately minimize system deviations.The paper proposes a novel arrangement based on a dual structured fuzzy(DSF)whose structure changes according to the switching limit with a reduced rule base.It has the capability to switch between proportional and integral actions and hence improves the frequency regularization of theμ-grid.The proposed strategy is tested in aμ-grid and the results considering step load alteration,load alteration at different instants of time,nonstop changing load request are compared with some of the well published methods to validate the effectiveness and simplicity of the present design.In addition,it shows that ultra-capacitor establishment in aμ-grid has a positive impact in minimizing system deviations with DSF for the studied cases.

Protection of Viola odorata L.against Neurodegenerative Diseases:Potential of the Extract and Major Phytoconstituents

Background:Neurodegenerative diseases cause cognitive impairment owing to neuronal death and deterioration.Only a few brain-protecting chemical investigations yielded neuroprotective medications.Viola odoata L.is a traditional medicinal herb that has lately been shown to have strong pharmacological effectiveness against major neurological illnesses with fewer adverse effects.Objective:The objective of the current review is to provide a thorough overview of the key biologically active components and extract of Viola odorata L.in their capacity to safeguard nerve cells.Methods:Science Direct,PubMed,Springer Nature,and Google Scholar were scoured for relevant articles using the terms“Viola odorata L.”,and in the heading and abstract or main text,“neuroprotective activity”,“neurode-generative disease”,“pharmacological potential”,and“therapeutic activity”along with“extract”or“phytocon-stituents”.Neuroprotective activity of Viola odorata L.extract or phytoconstituents were used to classify and investigate the articles that passed the screening process.Results:A total of one hundred twenty one papers were reviewed based on the collected data.The following topics have been elaborated upon in the text:pathological factors of neurodegenerative diseases;role of medic-inal plants in neurodegenerative diseases;Viola odorata L.taxonomy,pharmacological activities,toxicity and adverse effect;neuroprotective activity of extract and various active components of Viola odorata L.The primary phytocomponents of Viola odorata L.were discovered to be anthocyanins,flavonoids,melatonin,salicylic acid,cumarins and various alkaloids,which are primarily responsible for its neuroprotective action.These natural plant compounds can boost antioxidant levels,reduce harmful oxidants,alleviate nerve pain,decrease the pro-duction of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6,IL-1β,and TNF-α𝛼,lower the total amount of nitrite produced,and trigger various neuroprotective mechanisms in the nervous system.It has been also concluded in several in-vestigatio

Polytene chromosomes of an Indian Himalayan black fly Simulium (Nevermannia) praelargum (Diptera:Simuliidae)

High quality polytene chromosome maps (n=3) of a Himalayan Simuliid Simulium praelargum Datta, 1973 are presentedand represent the first cytological description of a taxon found in the feuerborni group, subgenus Nevermannia. Polytenechromosomes one (Ⅰ) and two (Ⅱ) are metacentric, chromosome three (Ⅲ) is submetacentric with the length of each chromosomeoccupying 37.25 %, 31.36 % and 31.34 % of the total complement length, respectively. Typical simuliid diagnostic intergenericchromosomal markers are found within the polytene complement of this species. The nucleolar organizer (N.O.) is found at thebase of the short arm of chromosome one (IS), the Ring of Balbiani (R.B.), double bubble (D.B.) and triad occur in the short armof chromosome two (IIS), the Parabalbiani Ring (P.B.) and grey band (gb) occur in the long arm of chromosome two (IIL) and theBlister (BL) and Capsule (Ca) occur in the short arm of chromosome three (HIS).Terminal bands at the end of HIS are heterochromatinizedand present atypically with respect to other simuliid fauna. Populations studied so far are unique among the Simuliidaein that they exhibit chromosome structural monomorphism. These high resolution polytene chromosome maps will form thebasis for future cytological characterization and phylogenetic comparisons amongst members of the feuerborni group.

To Bloom or Not to Bloom： Role of MicroRNAs in Plant Flowering

During the course of their life cycles, plants undergo various morphological and physiological changes un- derlying juvenile-to-adult and adult-to-flowering phase transitions. To flower or not to flower is a key step of plasticity of a plant toward the start of its new life cycle. In addition to the previously revealed intrinsic genetic programs, exogenous cues, and endogenous cues, a class of small non-coding RNAs, microRNAs （miRNAs）, plays a key role in plants making the decision to flower by integrating into the known flowering pathways. This review highlights the age-dependent flowering pathway with a focus on a number of timing miRNAs in determining such a key process. The contributions of other miRNAs which exist mainly outside the age pathway are also discussed. Approaches to study the flowering-determining miRNAs, their inter- actions, and applications are presented.

COVID-19 associated diabetes mellitus: A review

A significantly higher rate of new-onset diabetes in many coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)patients is a frequently observed phenomenon.The resultant hyperglycemia is known to influence the clinical outcome,thereby increasing the cost of treatment and stay in hospital.This will also affect the post-hospitalization recuperation.It has been observed that new-onset diabetes in COVID-19 patients is associated with considerable increase in morbidity and may be associated with increased mortality in some cases.This mini-review focuses on the possible causes to understand how COVID-19-related diabetes develops,various associated risk factors,and possible mechanism to understand the natural history of the disease process,clinical outcome,associated morbidities and various treatment options in the mana-gement of post COVID-19 diabetes.A literature search was performed in PubMed and other online database using appropriate keywords.A total of 80 articles were found,among which,53 of the most relevant were evaluated/analyzed and relevant data were included.The studies show that patients who have had severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection leading to development of COVID-19 may manifest not only with new-onset diabetes but also worsening of pre-existing diabetes.Cytopathic effect and autoimmune destruction of insulin-secreting pancreatic beta cells,cytokine storm during the active phase of infection causing impaired insulin secretion and resistance,druginduced hyperglycemia,undetected pre-existing hyperglycemia/diabetic condition,and stress-induced impairment of glucose metabolism are some of the possible potential mechanisms of COVID-19-associated new-onset diabetes mellitus.Many studies published in recent times have found a significantly higher rate of new-onset diabetes mellitus in many COVID-19 patients.Whether it is an inflammatory or immune-mediated response,direct effect of virus or combination of these is unclear.The resultant hyperglycemia is known to influence the clinical outcome and has been as

Robust Image Watermarking Using LWT and Stochastic Gradient Firefly Algorithm

Watermarking of digital images is required in diversified applicationsranging from medical imaging to commercial images used over the web.Usually, the copyright information is embossed over the image in the form ofa logo at the corner or diagonal text in the background. However, this formof visible watermarking is not suitable for a large class of applications. In allsuch cases, a hidden watermark is embedded inside the original image as proofof ownership. A large number of techniques and algorithms are proposedby researchers for invisible watermarking. In this paper, we focus on issuesthat are critical for security aspects in the most common domains like digitalphotography copyrighting, online image stores, etc. The requirements of thisclass of application include robustness (resistance to attack), blindness (directextraction without original image), high embedding capacity, high Peak Signalto Noise Ratio (PSNR), and high Structural Similarity Matrix (SSIM). Mostof these requirements are conflicting, which means that an attempt to maximizeone requirement harms the other. In this paper, a blind type of imagewatermarking scheme is proposed using Lifting Wavelet Transform (LWT)as the baseline. Using this technique, custom binary watermarks in the formof a binary string can be embedded. Hu’s Invariant moments’ coefficientsare used as a key to extract the watermark. A Stochastic variant of theFirefly algorithm (FA) is used for the optimization of the technique. Undera prespecified size of embedding data, high PSNR and SSIM are obtainedusing the Stochastic Gradient variant of the Firefly technique. The simulationis done using Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB) tool and it is shown that theproposed technique outperforms the benchmark techniques of watermarkingconsidering PSNR and SSIM as quality metrics.

Multiple splenic infarcts in acute Plasmodium vivax malaria:A rare case report

In tropical countries like India,malaria has been one of the most common parasitic illnesses leading to frequent hospitalization and causing major economic burden among the masses. Although Plasmodium vivax infection is considered to be benign,in contrast to Plasmodium, falciparum infection which is notorious for its severe splenic complications can occur frequently. Splenomegaly tends not to receive special attention,as it is not usually accompanied by any symptoms and can be gradually resolved via standard antimalarial therapy.Splenic infarction, although rarely attributable to malaria in an endemic region with high parasitemia,can be a rare presentation of this disease entity.

Use of methylation filtration and Cot fractionation for analysis of genome composition and comparative genomics in bread wheat

We investigated the compositional and structural differences in sequences derived from different fractions of wheat genomic DNA obtained using methylation filtration and Cot fractionation. Comparative analysis of these sequences revealed large compositional and structural variations in terms of GC content, different structural elements including repeat sequences （e.g., transposable elements and simple sequence repeats）, protein coding genes, and non-coding RNA genes. A correlation between methylation status [determined on the basis of selective inclusion/ exclusion in methylation-filtered （MF） library] of different repeat elements and expression level was observed. The expression levels were determined by comparing MF sequences with expressed sequence tags （ESTs） available in the public domain. Only a limited overlap among ME high Cot （HC）, and ESTs was observed, suggesting that these sequences may largely either represent the low-copy non-transcribed sequences or include genes with low expression levels. Thus, these results indicated a need to study MF and HC sequences along with ESTs to fully appreciate complexity of wheat gene space.

Molecular markers in prostate cancer. Part Ⅰ： predicting lethality

Assessing the lethality of ‘early,’ potentially organ-confined prostate cancer （PCa） is one of the central controversies in modem-day urological clinical practice. Such cases are often considered for radical ‘curative’ treatment, although active surveillance may be equally appropriate for many men. Moreover, the balance between judicious intervention and overtreatment can be difficult to judge. The patient＇s age, comorbidities, family history and philosophy of self-health care can be weighed against clinical features such as the palpability of disease, the number and percentage of biopsy cores involved with the disease, histological grade, presenting prostate-specific antigen （PSA） and possible previous PSA kinetics. For many years, scientists and physicians have sought additional molecular factors that may be predictive for disease stage, progression and lethality. Usually, claims for a ‘new’ unique marker fall short of true clinical value. More often than not, such molecular markers are useful only in multivariate models. This review summarizes relevant molecular markers and models reported up to and including 2008.
