Enhanced dielectric and optical properties of nanoscale barium hexaferrites for optoelectronics and high frequency application

M-type barium hexaferrites with chemical composition Ba1-xDyxFe12-yCryO19(x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, and y =0.0, 0.4, 0.5) were synthesized via sol–gel auto-combustion method. The samples were pre-sintered at 400℃ for 3 h and sintered at 950℃ for 5 h. The changes in the structural, dielectric, and optical properties were studied after the substitution of Dy3+and Cr3+ions. X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis confirms the formation of single phase hexaferrites with the absence of secondary phase. FTIR analysis gives an idea of the formation of hexaferrites with the appearance of two peaks at 438 cm-1and 589 cm-1. The field emission scanning electron micrographs(FESEM) show a combination of crystallites with large shapes close to hexagonal platelet-like shape and others with rice or rod-like shapes, whereas EDX and elemental analysis confirm the stoichiometry of prepared samples. The calculated band gap from UV-vis NIR spectroscopy spectra was found to decreases with increase in Dy3+–Cr3+substitution. The dielectric properties were explained on the basis of Maxwell–Wagner model. Enhancement of dielectric constant at higher frequencies was observed in all the samples. Low dielectric loss is also observed in all the samples and Cole–Cole plot shows that grain boundary resistance(Rgb) contribute most to the dielectric properties. The prepared samples exhibit properties that could be useful for optoelectronics and high frequency application.

Although vertebral column is recognized as the most common site for bony metastasis in patient with systemic malignancy, intramedullary metastases to the spinal cord is infrequent. Between 5% - 10% of cancer patients develop spinal metastasis during the course of their diseases. Intramedullary tumors are rare, comprising 3.5% of spinal metastasis. Most metastatic spinal lesions (70%) are found at the thoracic level, 20% in lumbar region and 10% in the cervical region. We report a rare biopsy proven case of intramedullary spinal metastatic carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation because of its unusual presentation, involving spine at multiple noncontiguous levels, which appeared as irregular small nodules on MRI. The primary tumor was most likely from occult primary in lung. Biopsy from the spinal lesion established the diagnosis of metastatic carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation. Therefore, in patients with spinal metastasis, a thorough work up is advised to evaluate primary site. This would help to delineate the nature and the extent of the systemic disease. We highlighted herein the clinical presentation, radiological findings particularly MRI and role of biopsy in the diagnosis and treatment of intramedullary spinal metastasis.

This review article aims to analyze and evaluate the advantages, shortcomings, technological advancements and hereafter prospects in welding and processing of magnesium and its alloys. Studies have accounted that replacing other metals with Mg alloys will bring about in monumental weight reduction with significant addition in strength that could lead to dramatic transformation of metallic era of 21st century and onwards. However,wide application of Mg and its alloys depends on the development of advanced welding &joining technologies. The current paradigm and progress in welding,joining and processing of magnesium and its alloys are reviewed,and research trend in this field is briefly discussed.

Establishment and molecular characterization of breast cancer mesenchymal stem cell line derived from human non-metastasis breast cancer tumor

Breast cancer remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in women mainly because of the propensity of primary breast tumors to metastasize. It is composed of heterogeneous cell populations with different biological properties. Breast cancer-initiating cells have been recently identified in breast carcinoma as CD44+/CD24-/low cells, which display stem cell like properties. In the present study, we have isolated breast cancer stem cells from non-metastasis tumor tissue, which is presently at passage 18 and designated as human Breast Cancer Mesenchymal Stem Cells (hBCMSCs) line. These cells showed spindle shaped morphology and formed mammos-pheres as well as pluripotency clones indicating their stem cell nature. Molecular marker study confirmed mesenchymal nature as well as pluripotency, plasticity and oncogenicity of these cells. The hBCMSCs cell line may likely contain a heterogeneous population of malignant cells. Interestingly, we also found that these cells exhibit BRCA 2 mutation, which was found in Indian population. Overall, this study revealed that hBCMSCs cell line may represent a suitable in vitro model to study the mechanism of breast cancer which further leads to an identification of molecular targets for future breast cancer targeted therapy.

BACKGROUND:The ideal treatment of patients with 'borderline resectable pancreatic tumors (BRTs)' needs to be *** protocols advise neoadjuvant chemo(radio)therapy,although some patients may appear to have BRT on preoperative imaging and a complete resection may be achieved without the need for vascular *** aim of the present study was to identify specific findings on preoperative imaging that could help predict in which patients with BRT a complete resection,with or without vascular resection (VR),could be ***:Twelve patients with BRTs were *** location,maximum degree of circumferential contact (CC),length of contact of the tumor with major vessels (LC),and luminal narrowing of vessels at the point of contact with the tumor (venous deformity,VD) were graded on preoperatively acquired multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) images and then compared with the intraoperative findings and need for ***:A complete resection (R0) was achieved in 10 patients with 2 having microscopic positive margins (R1) on histopathology at the uncinate *** of the 10 patients required VR (40%).In 3 of the 4 patients whose tumors required VRs,CC was ≥grade III and VD was grade *** did not influence the need for ***:It is possible to achieve a complete resection at the first instance in patients found to have BRTs on preoperative *** MDCT-based grading systems and our proposed criteria may help identify such patients,thus avoiding any delay in curative resections in such patients.
