Postoperative cognitive dysfunction （POCD） is a multifactorial process with a huge number of predisposing, causal, and precipitating factors. In this scenario, the neuroinflammation and the microglial activation play a pivotal role by triggering and amplifying a complex cascade involving the immuno-hormonal acti- vation, the micro circle alterations, the hippocampal oxidative stress activation and, finally, an increased blood-brain barrier＇s permeability. While the role of anesthetics in the POCD＇s genesis in humans is debated, a huge number of preclinical studies have been conducted on the topic and many mechanisms have been proposed to explain the potential neurodegenerative effects of general anesthetics. Probably, the problem concerns on what we are searching for and how we are searching and, surprisingly, preclinical studies showed that anesthetics may also manifest neuroprotective properties. The aim of this paper is to offer an overview on the potential impact of general anesthetics on POCD. Mechanisms of hippocampal and extra-hippocampal dysfunction due to neuroinflammation are discussed, whereas further research perspectives are also given.

We presented the first photometric analysis of the V1961 Cyg and V0890 Lyr binary *** observed and analyzed these systems at an observatory in France as part of the Binary Systems of South and North （BSN）*** extracted and collected the times of minima from the observations and literature and presented a new ephemeris for each *** to the few observations about these systems over the years,both O–C diagrams were fitted *** PHysics Of Eclipsing BinariEs （PHOEBE） Python code and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo （MCMC） method were used for light curve *** light curve solution required a cold starspot on the hotter component in the V1961 Cyg binary *** compared and have close agreements between our mass ratios’results from the light curve analysis processes and a new method based on the light curve *** estimated the absolute parameters using an empirical relationship between the semimajor axis and orbital period for contact binary *** results show V1961 Cyg and V0890 Lyr are W-type contact binary *** displayed stars and systems’positions in the M–L,M–R,and logMtot-log *** also presented a new relationship between mass ratio and luminosity ratio.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis（ALS） is the most common degenerative disease of the motor neuron system. Over the last years, a growing interest was aimed to discovery new innovative and safer therapeutic approaches in the ALS treatment. In this context, the bioactive compounds of Cannabis sativa have shown antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in preclinical models of central nervous system disease. However, most of the studies proving the ability of cannabinoids in delay disease progression and prolong survival in ALS were performed in animal model, whereas the few clinical trials that investigated cannabinoids-based medicines were focused only on the alleviation of ALS-related symptoms, not on the control of disease progression. The aim of this report was to provide a short but important overview of evidences that are useful to better characterize the efficacy as well as the molecular pathways modulated by cannabinoids.

AIM: To investigate the effects of cyclosporine A (CsA)on thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver ***: CsA was co-administrated (7.5 μg/kg body weight per day, i.p.) into rat to investigate the role of CsA on TAA-(200 mg/kg body weight per 3 d for 30 d, i.p.)induced liver ***: The data show that TAA caused liver fibrosis in rat after 30 d of treatment. CsA alleviates the morphological changes of TAA-induced fibrosis in rat liver. The blood glutamyl oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT)/glutamyl pyruvic transaminase (GPT) in the TAA-injury group is elevated compared to that of the normal rat. Compared with the TAA-injury group, the blood GOT/GPT and TGFβ1 (by RT-PCR analysis) are reduced in the CsA plus TAA-treated rat. The level of the transforming growth factor receptor I (TGFβ-R1) in the CsA plus TAA-treated group shows higher than that in the TAA only group, but shows a lower level of the fibroblast growth factor receptor 4 (FGFR4)in the CsA plus TAA-treated group, when using the Western blot analysis. After immunostaining of the frozen section,TGFβ-R1 and FGFR4 are more concentrated in rat liver after CsA plus TAA ***: This result suggests that CsA has an alleviated effect on TAA-induced liver injury by increasing the multidrug resistance P-glycoprotein and could be through the regulation of TGFβ-R1 and FGFR4.

The term glaucoma encompasses a spectrum of eye diseases pathologically characterized by an irreversible loss of retinal ganglion cells and their associated axons. Patients initially suffer from gaps in their visual field, the part of the visual range that can be perceived without eye movement. In the early stages of the disease, this damage can be compensated very well by eye movements. This, in turn, means that glaucoma is often not diagnosed until the disease is more advanced.
