The effects of plant density of Melastoma malabathricum on the erosion rate of slope soil at different slope orientations

Malaysia's cut slopes,especially for road lines accommodation,are prone to erosions and *** problems mainly occur due to lack of vegetation cover and strong erosive *** addition,the topography factors have also become a major factor affecting soil ***,this study is aimed at determining the effects of planting density of a selected species,namely Melastoma malabathricum;one,two,and three seedlings per box,on the erosion rate at selected slopes of different orientation(morning and evening sun) at the Guthrie Corridor Expressway,*** six months of observation,treatment with three seedlings/box on the morning sun slope showed a lower erosion rate by 69.2%than those with the same treatment on the evening sun *** addition,the treatment of the three seedlings recorded at month six(final observation) had the highest reduction of soil saturation level(STL),by 23.6%.Furthermore,the physiological values of the species studied,grown on the morning sun slope,were higher in terms of stomatal conductance and photosynthetic rate by 12.1%and 15.8%(three seedlings/box),*** overall results showed that plant density was inversely related to the STL and erosion rate on the *** conclusion,a planting density of three seedlings/box and morning sun orientation gave positive effects on the plant's physiological performance of the slope,reducing the STL,as well as alleviating the erosion rate of slope soils.

MicroRNA in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and its precursor lesions

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC) is the 4^(th) deadliest cancer in the United States, due to its aggressive nature, late detection, and resistance to chemotherapy. The majority of PDAC develops from 3 precursor lesions, pancreatic intraepithelial lesions(PanIN), intraductual papillary mucinous neoplasm(IPMN), and mucinous cystic neoplasm. Early detection and surgical resection can increase PDAC 5-year survival rate from 6% for Stage Ⅳ to 50% for Stage Ⅰ. To date, there are no reliable biomarkers that can detect PDAC. MicroRNAs(miRNA) are small noncoding RNAs(18-25 nucleotides) that regulate gene expression by affecting translation of messenger RNA(mRNA). A large body of evidence suggests that miRNAs are dysregulated in various types of cancers. MiRNA has been profiled as a potential biomarker in pancreatic tumor tissue, blood, cyst fluid, stool, and saliva. Four mi RNA biomarkers(miR-21, miR-155, miR-196, and miR-210) have been consistently dysregulated in PDAC. MiR-21, miR-155, and miR-196 have also been dysregulated in IPMN and PanIN lesions suggesting their use as early biomarkers of this disease. In this review, we explore current knowledge of miRNA sampling, miR NA dysregulation in PDAC and its precursor lesions, and advances that have been made in using miRNA as a biomarker for PDAC and its precursor lesions.

Vedolizumab use in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases undergoing surgery:clinical trials and post-marketing experience

Background:Patients with inflammatory bowel diseases frequently require surgery,but immunotherapies used in disease management may increase the risk of post-operative *** investigated frequencies of post-operative complications in patients who received vedolizumab—a gut-selective antibody approved for the treatment of moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease—in clinical-trial and post-marketing ***:This post hoc analysis of safety data from GEMINI 1,GEMINI 2,and long-term safety studies included patients who had had colectomy or bowel surgery/*** from the post-marketing Vedolizumab Global Safety Database were also analysed(data cutoff point:19 May 2016).Adverse events relating to post-operative complications were identified using Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities preferred ***:Of 58 total surgeries in patients included in GEMINI 1 and GEMINI 2,post-operative complications were reported for 3/51 vedolizumab-treated patients(5.9%)and 1/7 placebo-treated patients(14.3%).In the long-term safety study,157/2,243 patients(7%)had colectomy or bowel surgery/resection;of these 157 patients who underwent surgery,11(7%)experienced a post-operative *** time between last pre-operative vedolizumab dose and surgery was 23 days in GEMINI 1,20 days in GEMINI 2,and 39–40 days in the long-termsafety *** the post-marketing setting,based on data covering approximately 46,978 patient-years of vedolizumab exposure,post-operative complications were reported in 19 ***:In clinical trials,complications of colectomy and bowel surgery/resection appeared infrequent,with minimal difference between vedolizumab and *** frequency of post-operative complications in the post-marketing setting appears low.

Comparative evaluation for catalytic gasification of petroleum coke and asphaltene in subcritical and supercritical water

Subcritical and supercritical water gasification of petroleum coke and asphaltene was performed at variable temperatures(350–650°C),feed concentrations(15–30 wt%)and reaction times(15–60 min).Nickel-impregnated activated carbon(Ni/AC)was synthesized as a catalyst for enhancing syngas yields at optimal gasification conditions(650°C,15 wt%and 60 min).Structural chemistry of precursors and chars developed at different gasification temperatures was studied using physicochemical and synchrotronbased approaches such as carbon–hydrogen–nitrogen–sulfur(CHNS)analysis,thermogravimetric and differential thermogravimetric analysis(TGA/DTA),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),Raman spectroscopy,X-ray diffraction(XRD)and X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS).Asphaltene testified to be a better precursor for catalytic hydrothermal gasification leading to 11.97 mmol/g of total gas yield compared to petroleum coke(8.04 mmol/g).In particular,supercritical water gasification using 5 wt%Ni/AC at 650°C with 15 wt%feed concentration for 60 min resulted in 4.17 and 2.98 mmol/g of H_2from asphaltene and petroleum coke,*** the same conditions,the respective CH_4yields from catalytic gasification of asphaltene and petroleum coke were 2.54and 1.07 mmol/***,asphaltene also seemed to an attractive feedstock for the production of highly aromatic chars through hydrothermal gasification.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: Risk factors, screening, and early detection

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, with over 38000 deaths in 2013. The opportunity to detect pancreatic cancer while it is still curable is dependent on our ability to identify and screen high-risk populations before their symptoms arise. Risk factors for developing pancreatic cancer include multiple genetic syndromes as well as modifiable risk factors. Genetic conditions include hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndrome, Lynch Syndrome, familial adenomatous polyposis, Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome, familial atypical multiple mole melanoma syndrome, hereditary pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, and ataxia-telangiectasia; having a genetic predisposition can raise the risk of developing pancreatic cancer up to 132-fold over the general population. Modifiable risk factors, which include tobacco exposure, alcohol use, chronic pancreatitis, diet, obesity, diabetes mellitus, as well as certain abdominal surgeries and infections, have also been shown to increase the risk of pancreatic cancer development. Several largevolume centers have initiated such screening protocols, and consensus-based guidelines for screening high-riskgroups have recently been published. The focus of this review will be both the genetic and modifiable risk factors implicated in pancreatic cancer, as well as a review of screening strategies and their diagnostic yields.

为了对发动机燃烧不稳定性进行被动控制,利用亥姆赫兹声学共振器原理,设计一种声学阀门,当一个管道侧面安装的亥姆赫兹共振器的空腔壁面是柔软的时候,声学阀门的性能与频率就没有很强的关系,从而实现由于热声学不稳定带来的压力和热释放导致的不稳定燃烧进行被动控制。阀门的功能是让声音通过,但它必须阻止时间平均意义上的流动。本文对带有这种装置的热声学特征根问题给出数值解。结果显示声学阀门对燃烧室内的驻波结构造成很大改变,进而可以消除不稳定的特征根模态。只要阀门具备足够的尺寸,这种效果可以在任意的线性火焰声学特性中广泛实现。

Relating atomic local structures and Curie temperature of NdFeB permanent magnets:an X-ray absorption spectroscopic study

Relationship between atomic local structures and Curie temperature of NdFeB permanent magnets was investigated semi-quantitatively using synchrotron radiation technique. Fe K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS) was employed to study the local structure of Fe atoms for samples before and after doping Dy, Tb or Gd. It is found that the bond lengths and coordination numbers are changed. Thus, the exchange interaction between Fe atoms increases with Dy, Tb or Gd doping, resulting in the improvement of Curie temperature of NdFeB permanent magnets. The doping effect is proven by experimental measurement of the magnetic properties. Microstructural characterization using scanning electron microscopy(SEM) was also used to further analyze the effect of different rare earth elements doping on Curie temperature of NdFeB permanent magnets.

The Spatial Statistics Analysis of Housing Market Bubbles

With the incorporation of spatial statistic method, this paper constructs a state-space model of housing market bubbles, discussing the spatial pattern of housing market bubbles in China,and identifying the dynamic evolution process. The results show that: The bubbles of housing market walked along a path from low level to high level and then downsized to a low level during the period of 2009 and 2014, and the highest level stayed at 2011. From overall, the level of housing market bubbles had shown significant spatial autocorrelation and spatial agglomeration. In detail, the direction of North-South in China showed the inverted U shape, i.e., Central region was with high bubbles, and two ends contained low bubbles; from East-West direction, the East had high bubbles and the West contained comparatively low bubbles. Local spatial test indicates that there were some approximate spatial features in housing market bubbles among the adjacent regions. Observed from the level of housing market bubbles, China contained 3 plates: The first was the plate with low bubble level,including 3 provinces in North-East China(provinces of Jilin, Heilongjiang and Liaoning were included,but Dalian in Liaoning province was excluded; the second was the Central and West plate(the provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Gansu, Fujian, Jiangxi and Hainan were included in this plate), which was also featured with low bubble; and the third was Central East plate(provinces or provincial regions of Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong,Anhui, Shanxi, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia were included), which was characterized as high bubble region.
