Geochemical and mineralogical studies were performed in the La Pesca(LP)and Tesoro Altamira(TA)beach sediments,located in the Tamaulipas state,northern Gulf of *** main aim of this study is to infer the weathering history and provenance and to discriminate the tectonic environment of the beach *** sediments are composed of quartz with small amounts of accessory minerals such as plagioclase,calcite,orthoclase,microcline,and *** beach sediments are classified as fine-grained and very well sorted,however LP has coarse skewed and leptokurtic sediments,whereas TA has fine-skewed and very leptokurtic *** chemical index of weathering(CIW’)indicates intense weathering in the source *** quartz grain microtextures in the LP and TA are classified into mechanical,chemical,and mechanical/chemical *** features such as fractures,pits,percussion marks,abrasion fatigue,and V-shaped marks favor high-energy littoral,fluvial,subaqueous-marine,and aeolian *** chemical features indicate solution pits and crystalline overgrowth,which suggests a silica saturated marine *** mechanical/chemical features display adhering particles and elongated depressions suggest formation in a sub-aqueous nearshore marine *** and trace elements-based provenance discrimination diagrams indicate a felsic source derived from the Mesa Central(MC),Sierra Madre Oriental(SMOr)and Oaxaquia *** major and trace element concentrations imply a passive margin setting for the northern Gulf of Mexico,which is consistent with the general geology.

Numerical investigation of the effect of transitory strand opening on mixing in a multistrand tundish

In a multistrand,the outlet near the inlet produces short circuiting *** leads to the formation of dead zones inside the tundish,and consequently,the mean residence time *** the present study,numerical investigation of mixing inside a delta shaped tundish with sloping boundaries was carried out by solving the Navier-Stokes equation and employing the standard turbulence *** decrease the dead zone volume inside the tundish,the effect of closing the outlet near the inlet for a small amount of time and further opening it on the mixing behavior of the tundish was *** outlets near the inlet were closed for varying amount of time,and the transient analysis of fluid flow and the tracer dispersion study were carried out to find the mixing parameters of the tundish,namely,mean residence time and the ratio of mixed to dead volume of the *** optimum closure time of the near outlet has been found,which yields best mixing inside the *** numerical code was validated against the experimental observation by performing the tracer dispersion study inside a multistrand tundish and the reasonably good match between the experimental and numerical results in terms of residence time distribution （RTD） *** results obtained from the present study confirm the strong role of choosing the right time for opening and closing the outlets to get improved characteristics for the fluid flow and mixing behavior of the *** educational version of computational fluid dynamics （CFD） software PHOENICS was used to solve the governing equations and interpret the results in different forms.

Evaluation of functional outcome and stability of sutureless scleral tunnel fixated IOLs in children with ectopia lentis

AIM:To evaluate functional outcome of sutureless scleral tunnel intraocular lens(SSTIOL)in children with crystalline lens subluxation of more than 7 clock ***:A prospective interventional study was conducted consisting of 45 eyes of 44 children in age group 6-18 y having>7 clock hours of lens subluxation who underwent lensectomy-vitrectomy followed by SSTIOL *** outcome was improvement in best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)and secondary outcomes were assessment of intraocular lens(IOL)tilt using ultrasound biomicroscopy(UBM),mean change in astigmatism at last follow-up of 1 y and associated ***:The mean preoperative and postoperative BCVA was 1.05±0.28 and 0.64±0.45(log mar)respectively(P=0.001)at last *** mean astigmatism preoperatively and postoperatively was-4.17±2.69 D and-1.86±1.25 D respectively(P=0.011).Significant IOL tilt(>5 degrees)was present in 5 *** mean percentage endothelial loss was 3.65%±1.92%.The most serious complication encountered was retinal detachment seen in 2 ***:SSTIOL implantation provides efficient visual rehabilitation in children provided there is stringent case *** recommend caution in children having white-to-white distance>12 mm and presence of peripheral retinal degenerations.
