Hydroxychloroquine serum concentration in coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)patients:a retrospective study

Algeria has adopted a therapeutic protocol using hydroxychloroquine(HCQ)as a first-line treatment for patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).The administration of HCQ must be accompanied by appropriate cardiac and therapeutic pharmacological monitoring to avoid side effects and toxicity.This work is a retrospective descriptive study aiming to estimate the HCQ levels of COVID-19 patients.HCQ concentrations in blood samples from COVID-19 patients were determined using high performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector(HPLC-DAD)after liquid-liquid extraction of plasma.The coefficient of determination(r2)of this method was 0.9999.The limits of quantification and detection were 0.05 mg/L and 0.02 mg/L,respectively,with coefficients of variance less than 6%.Patient monitoring was performed following recommendations for the therapeutic pharmacological monitoring of HCQ in patients treated for SARS-CoV-2(COVID-19)infection validated by the coordinated action(AC43)of the National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis(ANRS)and Therapeutic Pharmacological Monitoring and Personalization of Treatments(STP-PT)group.A total of 267 blood samples from 240 patients were analyzed,49%for males and 51%for females.More than a third of the patients were 60-80 years old.The majority(68%)of the HCQ concentrations were between 0.1 and 1 mg/L.Additionally,more than 20%were between 0.05 and 0.1 mg/L,while only 7.5%were less than 0.05mg/L and 1.5%were greater than 1 mg/L.In summary,patients with COVID-19 showed a good tolerance to HCQ in the majority of cases.

Graphene coatings for corrosion resistance of nickel and copper in acidic,alkaline and neutral environments

Graphene coatings have been reported to provide impressive corrosion resistance to nickel(Ni)and copper(Cu),because of remarkable characteristics of inertness and impermeablity of graphene.However,as the earlier investigations have generally been carried out in chloride environment,and it is important to understand the performance of graphene coating also in more aggressive environments such as acids and alkali.This study investigated the electrochemical corrosion behaviour of bare and graphene-coated(by chemical vapour deposition(CVD))Ni and Cu in 0.5 M H_(2)SO_(4),0.1 M NaCl and 0.5 M NaOH solutions.Electrochemical tests and post corrosion characterisation revealed the improvement in the corrosion resistance of Ni due to multilayer graphene coating to be similar in the three solutions,i.e.,the robustness of the barrier property of the multilayer graphene is largely unaffected by the aggressiveness of the corrosive environment.However,the improvement in corrosion resistance of bare Ni due to multilayer graphene is considerably greater(nearly 3 orders of magnitude)in the most aggressive of the test solutions(0.5 M H_(2)SO_(4)).The improvement is considerably less in 0.5 M NaOH because bare Ni develops a robust passive layer in highly alkaline solutions.The improvement in corrosion resistance of bare Cu is limited(within an order of magnitude)in the three solutions because Cu develops only 1-2 layers of graphene.

Recent reports from World Health Organization(WHO)show the impact of human negligence as a serious concern for road accidents and casualties worldwide.There are number of reasons which led to this negligence;hence,need of intelligent transportation system(ITS)gains more attention from researchers worldwide.For achieving such autonomy different sensors are involved in autonomous vehicles which can sense road conditions and warn the control system about possible hazards.This work is focused on designing one such sensor system which can detect and range multiple targets under the impact of adverse atmospheric conditions.A high-speed Linear Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave(LFMCW)based Photonic Radar is proposed to detect multiple targets by integrating Mode division multiplexing(MDM).Reported results in terms of range frequency,Doppler frequency and range resolution are demonstrated using numerical simulations with the bandwidths of 1 and 4 GHz and under adverse atmospheric conditions carrying 75 dB/km of attenuation.To prove the effectiveness of the proposed photonic radar,moving targets are also demonstrated with different speed.System reported substantial range resolution of 15 cm using 1 GHz of bandwidth and 3 cm using 4 GHz of bandwidth.

Effect of Surfactants on the Thermoelectric Performance of Double-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

Thermoelectrics are a promising solution to the recovery of some of the 60%of the worldwide energy wasted as heat.However,their conversion efficiency is low and the best performing materials are brittle,toxic,and made of expensive ceramics.The challenge in developing better performing materials is in disrupting the electrical vs thermal conductivity correlation,to achieve low thermal conductivity simultaneously with a high electrical conductivity.Carbon nanotubes allow for the decoupling of the electronic density of states from the phonon density of states and this paper shows that flexible,thin films of double-walled carbon nanotube(DWCNT)can form effective n-and p-doped semiconductors that can achieve a combined Seebeck coefficient of 157.6µV K^(−1),the highest reported for a single DWCNT device to date.This is achieved through selected surfactant doping,whose role is correlated with the length of the hydrocarbon chain of the hydrophobic tail group of the surfactant’s molecules.CNTs functionalized with Triton X-405 show the highest output power consisting of a single junction of p-and n-type thermoelectric elements,reaching as high as 67 nW for a 45 K temperature gradient.Thus enabling flexible,cheaper,and more efficient thermoelectric generators through the use of functionalized CNTs.

T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia(T-ALL)is one of the most dangerous hematological malignancies,with high tumor heterogeneity and poor prognosis.More than 60%of T-ALL patients carry NOTCH1 gene mutations,leading to abnormal expression of downstream target genes and aberrant activation of various signaling pathways.We found that chidamide,an HDAC inhibitor,exerts an antitumor effect on T-ALL cell lines and primary cells including an anti-NOTCH1 activity.In particular,chidamide inhibits the NOTCH1-MYC signaling axis by down-regulating the level of the intracellular form of NOTCH1(NICD1)as well as MYC,partly through their ubiquitination and degradation by the proteasome pathway.We also report here the preliminary results of our clinical trial supporting that a treatment by chidamide reduces minimal residual disease(MRD)in patients and is well tolerated.Our results highlight the effectiveness and safety of chidamide in the treatment of T-ALL patients,including those with NOTCH1 mutations and open the way to a new therapeutic strategy for these patients.

The world health organization(WHO)terms dengue as a serious illness that impacts almost half of the world’s population and carries no specific treatment.Early and accurate detection of spread in affected regions can save precious lives.Despite the severity of the disease,a few noticeable works can be found that involve sentiment analysis to mine accurate intuitions from the social media text streams.However,the massive data explosion in recent years has led to difficulties in terms of storing and processing large amounts of data,as reliable mechanisms to gather the data and suitable techniques to extract meaningful insights from the data are required.This research study proposes a sentiment analysis polarity approach for collecting data and extracting relevant information about dengue via Apache Hadoop.The method consists of two main parts:the first part collects data from social media using Apache Flume,while the second part focuses on querying and extracting relevant information via the hybrid filtration-polarity algorithm using Apache Hive.To overcome the noisy and unstructured nature of the data,the process of extracting information is characterized by pre and post-filtration phases.As a result,only with the integration of Flume and Hive with filtration and polarity analysis,can a reliable sentiment analysis technique be offered to collect and process large-scale data from the social network.We introduce how the Apache Hadoop ecosystem–Flume and Hive–can provide a sentiment analysis capability by storing and processing large amounts of data.An important finding of this paper is that developing efficient sentiment analysis applications for detecting diseases can be more reliable through the use of the Hadoop ecosystem components than through the use of normal machines.

Lipopeptides are recognized as a structurally diverse group of functional biopeptides.They possess multiple biological,biotechnological and therapeutic applications and are able to affect cell membrane integrity and permeability.It is widely accepted that suppressing the interaction of redooxidation is mainly aimed by inserting functional biopeptides on form alpha-helical peptides or on form antibody.Such types of structured biomaterials have great potential in promoting signal transductions to the most organelles having geometrical and spacial structures similar to endogenous liposome forms such as lysosomes,ribosomes,mitochondria and platelets..Thus,inserting radioactive trace-elements along with biopeptides is necessary in tracing the trajectory of those radioactive micelles that are destined in targeting further complicated disease and growth factor propagation.These techniques are important in determining structure-symmetry and asymmetry leading to meso-spherical crystal-packing modes or to copolymer vesiculization.The main objective of this review is to highlight and elucidate the potential role of lipopeptides in promoting signals at surface/interface of micelles along with their functionalities in repairing cellular and nuclear damages.Moreover,state-of-the-art scientific knowledge is reviewed regarding bioconjugation and structuring charged-mono-layer and/or bi-layer phospholipidic membranes in adherent to signal-biopeptides using some advanced techniques such as ultra-sound probe based polydispersity of radioactive trace-elements assisted microdialysis as micro-separating techniques in between those miscible and immiscible compounds.

Background: Glycogenic hepatopathy(GH) is a disorder associated with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus,most commonly type 1, expressed as right upper quadrant abdominal pain, hepatomegaly and increased liver enzymes. The diagnosis may be difficult, because laboratory and imaging tests are not pathognomonic. Although GH may be suggested based on clinical presentation and imaging studies, the gold standard for diagnosis is a liver biopsy, showing a significant accumulation of glycogen within the hepatocytes. GH may be diagnosed also after elevated liver enzymes in routine blood tests. GH usually regresses after tight glycemic control. Progression to end-stage liver disease has never been reported. This review aims to increase the awareness to this disease, to suggest a pathway for investigation that may reduce the use of unnecessary tests, especially invasive ones.Data sources: A Pub Med database search(up to July 1, 2017) was done with the words "glycogenic hepatopathy", "hepatic glycogenosis", "liver glycogenosis" and "diabetes mellitus-associated glycogen storage hepatopathy". Articles in which diabetes mellitus-associated liver glycogen accumulation was described were included in this review.Results: A total of 47 articles were found, describing 126 patients with GH. Hepatocellular disturbance was more profound than cholestatic disturbance. No synthetic failure was reported.Conclusions: GH may be diagnosed conservatively, based on corroborating medical history, physical examination, laboratory tests, imaging studies and response to treatment, even without liver biopsy. In case of doubt about the diagnosis or lack of clinical response to treatment, a liver biopsy may be considered.There is no role for noninvasive tests like fibroscan or fibrotest for the diagnosis of GH or for differentiation of this situation from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

An Automatic Hierarchical Delay Analysis Tool

The performance analysis of VLSI integrated circuits (ICs) with llat tools is slow and even sometimes impossible to complete. Some hierarchical tools have been developed to speed up the analysis of these large ICs. However, these hierarchical tools suffe from a poor interaction with the CAD database and poorly automatized operations. We introduce a general hierarchical framework for performance analysis to solve these problems. The circuit analysis is automatic under the proposed framework. Information that has been automatically abstracted in the hierarchy is kept in database properties along with the topological information. A limited software implementation of the framework, PREDICT, has also been developed to analyze the delay performance. Experimental results show that hierarchical analysis CPU time and memory requirements are low if heuristics are used during the abstraction process.
