Tunable nano-engineered anisotropic surface for enhanced mechanotransduction and soft-tissue integration

Electrochemically engineered titania(Tio_(2))nanopores enable tailored cellular function;however,the cellular mechanosensing mechanisms dictating the cell response and soft tissue integration are yet to be ***,we report the fabrication of anisotropic Tio_(2)nanopores with diameters of 46 and 66 nm on microrough titanium(Ti)via electrochemical anodization,towards short-and long-term guidance of human primary gingival fibroblasts(hGFs).Cells on tissue culture plates and bare Ti substrates were used as ***,we show that nanopores with a diameter of 66 nm induced more mature focal adhesions of vinculin and paxillin at the membrane,encouraged the development of actin fibers at focal adhesion sites,led to elongated cell and nuclear *** topographical-driven changes were attributed to the Ras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate 1(Rac 1)GTPase pathway and nuclear localisation of laMIn A/C and yes-associated protein(YAP)and associated with increased ligament differentiation with elevated expression of the ligament marker Mohawk homeobox(MKX).Study findings reveal that minor tuning of nanopore diameter is a powerful tool to explore intracellular and nuclear mechanotransduction and gain insight into the relationships between nanomaterials and mechanoresponsive cellular elements.

Plant-based pecan nut cake beverage enrichment of phytochemicals and antioxidant properties using multi-stage block freeze concentration

Pecan nut (Carya illinoinensis) processing to obtain oil generates circa 37% of press cake, which is currently underuti-lized and primarily employed as animal feed. Due to its nutritional- and bioactive-rich composition, pecan nut cake (PnC) can be used as raw material for plant-based beverages, whose properties may be enhanced using a non-ther-mal technology based on block freeze concentration (BFC). The effect of five-stage BFC on total solids content (TSC), pH, color parameters, retention of phytochemicals, and the antioxidant activity (AA) of a pecan nut cake beverage (PnB) was assessed in this work. BFC afforded 98% (w/w) solids retention after three stages and 85% efficiency after four stages. The process also provided a 254% concentration factor in stage 5. In the last step, approximately a 64% increase in TSC and a slight decrease (7.3%) in pH compared to the control PnB was observed. In addition, total phenolic compounds, condensed tannins, total flavonols, and AA were significantly (P oved after the BFC, resulting in a 2.6-10.2- and 1.9-5.8-fold increase in phytochemicals and antioxidants, respectively. on the other hand, BFC caused the darkening of concentrates due to TSC and bioactive compounds retention. The processing strategy evaluated herein indicated a great potential of PnC as a raw material for obtaining high-quality ingredients for the food industry, which may reduce agro-industrial waste production and add value to a coproduct rich in nutrients and biocompounds with potential biological activity.

Proposals of SPT-CPT and DPL-CPT correlations for sandy soils in Brazil

Field tests in geotechnical engineering are fundamental for identification of the underground *** standard penetration test(SPT) is the most commonly used geotechnical approach. There has been an increase both in the use and application of the in situ tests: cone penetration test(CPT) and dynamic probing(DP). Several empirical SPT-CPT and dynamic probing light(DPL)-CPT correlations for sandy soils have been discussed in the literature. new SPT-CPT and DPL-CPT correlations for the sandy soils of the city of Vitoria, in the southeast of Brazil, are suggested in this paper. Statistical analyses to evaluate the quality of the data used are performed, and the suggested correlations are validated with several previous published datasets. The paper also provides some insights into SPT-CPT correlations and soil characteristics(i.e. the mean particle size and the fines fraction of the soil).

The effect of caloric restriction on genetical pathways

Energy restriction is defined as reducing nutrient intake without dragging the organism into malnutrition. Energy restriction is preferred because it is a non-genetic intervention that increases life expectancy. nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(nAD~+)and adenosine monophosphate(AMP)levels, which are the indicators of intracellular energy deficiency, increase with energy restriction. The increase in nAD~+ level stimulates sirtuin(SIRT)enzymes, and the increase in AMP level stimulates AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK). Various mechanisms are regulated by stimulating these enzymes. By Forkhead box o(Foxo)transcription factors, the ability of resistance to oxidative stress increases, and antioxidant genes, DnA repair, and autophagy genes are stimulated. Apoptosis is induced by stimulation of the p53 protein, and tumor growth is suppressed by the disruption of aging cells. The suppression of phosphoinositide 3-kinase(PI3K)-/-Akt, and therefore mToR signal stimulates autophagy and mitophagia, and cleanses damaged cells and organelles. Mitochondrial biogenesis is stimulated, antioxidant capacity increases, and inflammatory response decreases. Adipose tissue and lipid metabolism are regulated by the regulation of fatty acid synthesis and oxidation. As a consequence, the effects of caloric restriction on cellular metabolism are regulated through the genetic pathways.

Age and origin of the Cu（Au—Mo—Ag）salobo 3A ore deposit,Carajás Mineral Province,Amazonian Craton,northern Brazil

The salobo 3A polymetallic Cu (Au-Mo-Ag) deposit, located in the southeastern part of the Amazonian Cra- ton, northern Brazil, is hosted by an Archean metavol- cano-sedimentary sequence of salobo Group. The cop- per mineralization consists of bornite-chalcocite and bornite-chalcopyrite disseminated with magnetite. In this paper we attempt to date the mineralization episodes and to characterize the uid sources. The step- wise Pb leaching technique applied to chalcocite, tour- maline, chalcopyrite and magnetite yielded 207 Pb-206Pb ages of 2705 42 Ma, 2587 150 Ma, 2427 130 Ma, and 2112 12 Ma, respectively. The older age is inter- preted as the timing of primary mineralization. Ages of 2.58 Ga and 2.42 Ga are considered to be related to tec- tonic reactivation of the Itacai nas Belt, and the younger age, obtained on late magnetite crystals, sug- gests the presence of Paleoproterozoic hydrothermal episode. Sm-nd and Rb-Sr ages of 2.4 and 2.1 Ga were obtained for schists from the salobo Group and chlori- tized gneisses of the Xing Complex, respectively. The strong radiogenic Pb isotopic compositions of all analyzed minerals suggest a continental environment for the mineralizations. our geochronological results are in agreement with a primary syngenetic origin for the salobo miner- alization, with late remobilization into brittle-ductile structures during a policyclic evolution of the Caraj s- Cinzento strike-slip system. Low-grade metamorphism and anorogenic granitic plutonism affected the area at ca. 2.1 and 1.8 Ga, respectively.

Current self-limitation in a transverse nanosecond discharge with a slotted cathode

A high-voltage transverse pulsed nanosecond discharge with a slotted hollow cathode was found to be a source of high-energy （few kV） ribbon electron beams. Conditions for the formation and extinction of electron beams were experimentally studied in discharges in helium at pressures of 1-100 Torr. It was found that interaction of fast electrons with a non-uniform electric field near the slotted cathode led to limitation of the magnitude of the discharge current. A physical model was developed to describe the discharge current self-limitation that was in satisfactory agreement with the experimental results. Some technical solutions that are expected to increase the upper current limits in transverse nanosecond discharge are discussed.

Simplification of Double Folding Model Calculations in Study of Interaction Between Two Deformed nuclei

The Double Folding （DF） model calculation of the internuclear potential in heavy-ion interactions when the participant nuclei are deformed in their ground states involves a six-dimensional integral. Using the multipole expansion in these calculations, the DF six-dimensional integral reduce to the sum of the products of three single-dimensional integrals. In this paper we have presented a procedure for the calculation of the radius dependent functions in the multipole expansion of the nuclear density and their Fourier transforms. We have also reduced the DF model integrals to the sum of the single dimensional integrals using the obtained relations for the radius dependent functions in the multipole expansion and their Fourier transforms.

Recent reports suggest that aging is not solely a physiological process in living beings;instead, it should be considered a pathological process or disease(Amorim et al., 2022). Consequently, this process involves a wide range of factors, spanning from genetic to environmental factors, and even includes the gut microbiome(GM)(Mayer et al., 2022). All these processes coincide at some point in the inflammatory process, oxidative stress, and apoptosis, at different degrees in various organs and systems that constitute a living organism(Mayer et al., 2022;AguilarHernández et al., 2023).
