BACKGRoUND Gout is a disease characterized by hyperuricemia,and resultant deposition of uric acid crystals in *** typically manifested as intraarticular crystals or tophi,gout can also cause pathology at *** deposition within tendinous structures put them at risk for traumatic and degenerative ***,allografts can also be at risk of rupture in the setting of severe *** present the case of a 56-year-old female with severe gouty disease who sustained a re-rupture of a patellar tendon allograft *** SUMMARY A 56-year-old female presented to clinic after feeling her left knee pop and collapse beneath her while descending *** had a history of tophaceous gout and left patellar tendon rupture with reconstruction and multiple revisions over the course of 19 *** patient presented with pain and extensor lag.A magnetic resonance image demonstrated a ruptured patellar tendon allograft reconstruction and avulsion fracture at the tibial *** patient was treated with a novel intervention of Achilles allograft with bone block in a unique configuration with a dermal allograft incorporated into the *** was made non-weight bearing in the operative extremity in extension for the first four weeks postoperatively and was then progressed to active flexion over the course of eight *** twelve weeks,she was able to fully extend her operative knee and at five months she was resuming her normal activities and *** Failed patellar tendon reconstruction due to gouty infiltration is treated with dermal allograft augmented Achilles tendon reconstruction with bone block.

Diabetic nephropathy(DN)is the most frequent cause of chronic renal *** now,the pathophysiological mechanisms that determine its development and progression have not yet been *** the present study,we evaluate the role of autophagy at early stages of DN,induced in type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)mouse,and its association with proximal tubule membrane endocytic receptors,megalin and *** T2DM animals we observed a tubule-interstitial injury with significantly increased levels of urinary GGT and ALP,but an absence of tubulointerstitial *** proximal tubule cells of T2DM animals showed autophagic vesicles larger than those observed in the control group,and an increase in the number of these vesicles marked with LBPA by ***,a significant decrease in the ratio of LC3II/LC3I isoforms and in p62 protein expression in DN affected animals is ***,we observed a marked increase in urinary albumin and vitamin D binding-protein levels in T2DM animals as well as a significant decrease in expression of megalin in the renal *** results indicate an alteration of the tubular endocytic transporters in DN,which could be related to autophagic dysfunction,which would in turn result in impaired organelle recycling,thus contributing to the progression of this disease.

Mineralization of pegmatites in parts of the oban Massif,Southeastern Nigeria:A preliminary analysis

The oban Basement Massif of southeastern Nigeria is composed of metamorphosed rocks including phyllites, schists, gneisses and amphibolites cut by pegmatitic dykes of varying length and thickness, which intruded the metamorphic rocks. Preliminary geochemical study and analysis of these pegmatites from western oban Massif at Uyanga, Akwa Ibami, Iwuru I, Iwuru Ⅱ and Igbofia showed that the pegmatites are highly albitized. This is incon-sistent with earlier postulations that the pegmatites in this part of Nigeria are barren. Indices of fractionation such as Ba/Rb, K/Rb, Na/K, K/Cs, K/Ba reveal that the pegmatites are mineralized and different discrimination plots show that they are enriched in Li, Be, Sn, Ba, Ta, Ni, Cs, Sn and Zn. Rare metal indicative elements such as Ta, Nb, Rb, Cs, and Sn are enriched in the pegmatites, confirming that the pegmatites are mineralized.

Memory loss and dementia are major public health concerns with a substantial economic *** stress has been shown to play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of hippocampal damage-induced memory *** investigate whether the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound vanillyla cetone(zingerone) can protect against hippocampal damage and memory loss induced by cadmium chloride(CdCl_(2)) administration in rats,we explo red the potential involvement of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2) signaling pathway,which is known to modulate oxidative stress and *** healt hy male Wistar rats were divided into five groups:vehicle-treated(control),vanillylacetone,CdCl_(2),vanillylacetone+ CdCl_(2),vanillylacetone+ CdCl_(2)+ brusatol(a selective pharmacological N rf2inhibitor) *** effectively attenuated CdCl_(2)-induced damage in the dental gyrus of the hippocampus and improved the memory function assessed by the Morris Water Maze ***,vanillylacetone markedly decreased the hippocampal tissue levels of inflammatory biomarkers(interleukin-6,tumor necrosis factor-α,intracellular cell adhesive molecules) and apoptosis biomarkers(Bax and cleaved caspase-3).The control and CdCl_(2)-treated groups treated with va nillylacetone showed reduced generation of reactive oxygen species,decreased malondialdehyde levels,and increased superoxide dismutase and glutathione activities,along with significant elevation of nuclear Nrf2 mRNA and protein expression in hippocampal *** the protective effects of vanillylacetone we re substantially blocked by the co-administration of brusatol(a selective N rf2 inhibitor).va nillylacetone mitigated hippocampal damage and memory loss induced by CdCl_(2),at least in part, by activating the nuclear transcription factor ***,vanillylacetone exerted its potent antioxidant and antiinflammatory actions.
