Spatial Analysis Approach in Revealing the Global Sinks of Atmosphere Carbon Dioxide through “Leave One Out” Method

Global warming and climate change are the most important ecological issues of our time. The most well-known factor in this phenomenon is the redundancy of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Over the past 50 years the amount of residual CO2 in the atmosphere has risen from 40% to 45%. Reducing CO2 redundancy requires precise knowledge of the gas sources and sinks throughout the atmosphere. Despite having a leading role in residual gas levels of atmosphere, the diagnosis and types of changes of absorbing carbon dioxide are very much in doubt. Atmospheric measurements of CO2 concentrations are highly precise and provide a reliable measure of increase of CO2 in the atmosphere every year but they do not lead to the location of sources and sinks. Studies about understanding CO2 cycles began mainly around 1990 and most of these studies have been focused on non-spatial analysis. By ignoring the spatial effects, an important property such as closeness (adjacent) has been disregarded. The emission sources of gas are stronger than their sink sources i.e., whenever a sink is adjacent to a strong emission source, the measurements will show a massive existence of CO2 gas in that region although there exists a fine CO2?gas sink at below. Using the global measurements of CO2 and applying spatial analysis approach to “Leave One Out” method, our studies reveal the most probable spots of CO2 sources and sinks and that Negev Desert in Middle East is a distinguished CO2 sink region.

Sky reconstruction for the Tianlai cylinder array

We apply our sky map reconstruction method for transit type interferometers to the Tianlai cylin- der array. The method is based on spherical harmonic decomposition, and can be applied to a cylindrical array as well as dish arrays and we can compute the instrument response, synthesized beam, transfer func- tion and noise power spectrum. We consider cylinder arrays with feed spacing larger than half a wavelength and, as expected, we find that the arrays with regular spacing have grating lobes which produce spurious images in the reconstructed maps. We show that this problem can be overcome using arrays with a different feed spacing on each cylinder. We present the reconstructed maps, and study the performance in terms of noise power spectrum, transfer function and beams for both regular and irregular feed spacing configura- tions.

The Central Africa Fold Belt(CAFB)is a collision belt endowed with gold deposits in Eastern Cameroon area mined for about 50 ***,favorable areas for gold exploration are poorly *** paper presents(1)the kinematics of the brittle deformation in the Kékem area in the SW portion of the Central Cameroon Shear Zone and(2)constraints gold mineralization events with respect to the collisional evolution of the *** authors interpret that the conjugate ENE to E and NNW to NW trending lineament corresponds to the synthetic(R)and the antithetic(R’)shears,which accompanied the dextral slip along the NE to ENE striking *** latter coincides with the last 570-552 Ma D3 dextral simple shear-dominated transpression,which is parallel to the BétaréOya shear zone hosting gold *** mineralizations,which mainly occurred during the last dextral shearing,are disseminated within quartz veins associated to Riedel’s previous structures reactivated due to late collisional activities of the CAFB as brittle *** mineralizations occurred mainly during the 570-552 Ma D3 *** reactivation,which might be due to dextral simple shear during mylonitzation,plausibly remobilized the early gold deposits hosted in syn-compressional rocks and/or possibly focused deep-sourced fluid mixed with those released by ***,the Central Cameroon Shear Zone where Kékem is located,and which shows similar petrographical and structural features to those controling Batouri gold district,is a target area for gold exploration in Cameroon.

Quality of effluents from Hattar industrial Estate

Of 6634 registered industries in Pakistan, 1228 are considered to be highly polluting. The major industries include textile, pharmaceutical, chemicals (organic and inorganic), food industries, ceramics, steel, oil mills and leather tanning which spread all over four provinces, with the larger number located in Sindh and Punjab, with smaller number in North Western Frontier Province (NWFP) and Baluchistan. Hattar industrial Estate extending over 700 acres located in Haripur district of NWFP is a new industrial estate, which has been developed with proper planning for management of industrial effluents. The major industries located in Hattar are ghee industry, chemical (sulfuric acid, synthetic fiber) industry, textile industry and pharmaceuticals industry. These industries, although developed with proper planning are discharging their effluents in the nearby natural drains and ulti- mately collected in a big drain near Wah. The farmers in the vicinity are using these effluents for growing vegetables and cereal crops due to shortage of water. in view of this discussion, there is a dire need to determine if these effluents are hazardous for soil and plant growth. So, effluents from different industries, sewage and normal tap water samples were collected and analysed for pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total soluble salts (TSS), biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total nitrogen, cations and anions and heavy metals. The effluents of ghee and textile industries are highly alkaline. EC and TSS loads of ghee and textile industries are also above the National Environmental Quality Standards (NEQS), Pakistan. All the effluents had residual sodium carbonates (RSCs), carbonates and bicarbonates in amounts that cannot be used for irrigation. Total toxic metals load in all the effluents is also above the limit i.e. 2.0 mg/L. Copper in effluents of textile and sewage, manganese in ghee industry effluents and iron contents in all the effluents were high

Limitations of the Special and General Relativities and Their isotopic Generalizations

The scientific scene of this century has been dominated by the special and general relativities. in this paper we first recall that these relativities were not conceived for unlimited physical conditions, but solely for exterior problems (motion of point-like test bodies in the homogeneous and isotropic vacuum). We then show that the relativities are inapplicable (rather than violated) for the more general interior problems (motion of extended test bodies within inhomogeneous and anisotropic physical media) on numerous, independent, topological, geometric, analytic and other grounds. We also outline the rather numerous problematic aspects of general relativity for exterior problems in vacuum, while the problematic aspects of the special relativity in vac- uum are treated elsewhere in this volume. We also point our rather serious insufficiencies of the special and general relativities for an effective representation of antimatter, beginning at a classicalwastrophysical level and then continuing at the operator-particle level. The paper ends with a brief outline of the so-called isotopic generalization of the special and general relativities initiated by this author back in 1978 when at Harvard University under support from the U. S. Department of Energy, and subsequently studied by a number of mathematicians, theoreticians and experimentalists. These isotopic studies are presented as an indication of the true scientific renaissance in mathematics, physics, superconductivity and other fields which has been stimulated by the limitations and problematic aspects of the special and general relativities. These studies are coordinated by the istituto per la Ricerca di Base in italy. All scholars interested in truly fundamental advances in mathematics, physics, superconductivity and other disciplines are encouraged to participate in this collegial ef- fort.

Study of the process e^+e^- →π^+π^-π~0π~0 at energies s～(1/2)<1 GeV

in an experiment with the Spherical Neutral Detector at VEPP-2M collider the cross section of the process e^＋e^- →π^＋π^-π^0π^0 was measured. At energies √s 〈 920 MeV this cross section was measured for the first time. The energy dependence of the cross section is well discribed by the vector dominance model with contributions from p, p＇, p＂ mesons. The decay probability ρ→π^＋π^-π^0π^0 was found to be Bρ = （1.60±0.74±0.18） × 10^-5. The upper limit for the decay ω→π^＋π^-π^0π^0 was improved by two orders of magnitude compared to the previous measurements and is Bω 〈 2 × 10^-4 at 90% confidence level.

Production of Dissimilar Metals Materials by the Method of Solid-State Joining

Mechanisms taking place while hot rolling in vacuum of dissimilar materials joined in solid phase are described. it is shown that at joining of materials in solid phase redistribution of atoms from one material into another occurs on the interface of joining. On the base of calculation and experimental results it is concluded that the ultimate strength of the interface of joint is always higher than the ultimate strength of less durable material. Pair zirconium-stainless steel SS (Type AiSi 321) and carbon steel (Type C22E) those are used in nuclear power are investigated.

The Behaviour of Superalloys in Marine Gas Turbine Engine Conditions

This paper presents hot corrosion results carried out systematically on the selected nickel based superalloys such as iN 738 LC, GTM-SU-718 and GTM-SU-263 for marine gas turbine engines both at high and low temperatures that represent type i and type ii hot corrosion respectively. The results were compared with advanced superalloy under similar conditions in order to understand the characteristics of the selected superalloys. it is observed that the selected superalloys are relatively more resistant to type i and type ii hot corrosion when compared to advanced superalloy. in fact, the advanced superalloy is extremely vulnerable to both types of hot corrosion. Subsequently, the relevant reaction mechanisms that are responsible for slow and faster degradation of various superalloys under varied hot corrosion conditions were discussed. Based on the results obtained with different techniques, a degradation mechanism for all the selected superalloys as well as advanced superalloy under both types of hot corrosion conditions was explained. Finally, the necessity as well as developmental efforts with regard to smart corrosion resistant coatings for their effective protection under high temperature conditions was stressed for their enhanced efficiency.

satellite laser ranging experiment with sub-centimeter single-shot ranging precision at Shanghai Observatory

The Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, incollaboration with the Czech Technical University, carried out the experiment of satellite laser ranging with sub-centimeter precision in Shanghai in August 2001. A pico-second event timer was used for the measurement of the time interval between the transmitted and returned laser pulses for Lageos 1, 2, Starlette, Stella, Topex/Poseiden and ERS-2 in coordination with the existing laser transmitting and receiving system at the Shanghai Observatory. The analysis of the measurement showed that the single-shot ranging precision with these satellites is 7-8 mm. in order to compare ranging precision, the existing ranging system has tracked simultaneously these satellites and obtained the ranging precision of 12-15 mm. it means that the ranging precision with the new system is 80% better thanthe existing system. The systematic biases with the existing system have also been checked in the experiment.

Possible association of the 5-HTTLPR serotonin transporter promoter gene polymorphism with premature ejaculation in a Turkish population

We evaluated the genotypes of the serotonin transporter gene （5-HTT） in patients with premature ejaculation （PE） to determine the role of genetic factors in the etiopathogenesis of PE and possibly to identify the patient subgroups. A total of 70 PE patients and 70 controls were included in this study. All men were heterosexual, had no other disorders and were either married or in a stable relationship. PE was defined as ejaculation that occurred within 1 min of vaginal intromission. Genomic DNA from patients and controls was analyzed using polymerase chain reaction, and allelic variations of the promoter region of the serotonin transporter gene （5-HTTLPR） were determined. The 5-HTTLPR （serotonin transporter promoter gene） genotypes in PE patients vs. controls were distributed as follows： L/L 16% vs. 17%, L/S 30% vs. 53% and S/S 54% vs. 28%. We examined the haplotype analysis for three polymorphisms of the 5-HTTLPR gene： LL, LS and SS. The appropriateness of the allele frequencies in the 5-HTTLPR gene was analyzed by the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium using the Z-test. The short （S） allele of the 5-HTTLPR gene was significantly more frequent in PE patients than in controls （P 〈 0.05）. We suggest that the 5-HTTLPR gene plays a role in the pathophysiology of all primary PE cases. Further studies are needed to evaluate the relationship between 5-HTTLPR gene polymorphism and patient subgroup （such as primary and secondary PE） responses to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors as well as ethnic differences.
