this study examined the effects of combined anti-inflammatories and specific nutrients on recovery from resistance exercises. trained individuals （n = 14） performed three sets to failure at a 8-12 repetition maximum load for six resistance exercises, then repeated this workout after 24 h. participants consumed a protein-carbohydrate shake （330 ml; 20 g protein; 45 g carbohydrate）, vitamin C （1000 mg）, vitamin E （400 I.U.） and ibuprofen （100 mg） immediately after the initial workout. Another dose of vitamin C and ibuprofen were respectively consumed 1 h or 30 min before the second workout. On another occasion （counterbalanced） a placebo of flavored water, two imitation vitamins （gummy candies）, and two replica ibuprofen （sugar pills） were consumed. A 10-cm visual analog scale （VAS） assessed pain, ratings of perceived exertion （RPE）, and ratings of perceived recovery （RPR）. treatment enhanced performance-based recovery （repetitions after 24h） for the chest press （P 〈 0.010） and latissimus pull-down （P 〈 0.010）. Within-condition comparisons revealed performance decrements （P 〈 0.050） after 24 h for 83% of the exercises under placebo, compared to 50% of exercises under treatment. treatment enhanced RPR （P = 0.038） compared to placebo, but had no significant effects on residual （P = 0.215） or exercise （P 〉 0.050） pain. RPE was lower under the treatment for the chest press （P = 0.016） and overall workout （P = 0.038） on day 1, but similar among all exercises on day 2 （P 〉 0.050）. this treatment may promote increases in performance without increasing pain or RPE.

Dear Editor,In multicellular eukaryotes,Polycomb repression heritably si-lences gene expression programs not needed or detrimental for a given developmental stage or tissue(Schuettengruber et al.,2017).During cell fate reprogramming,Polycomb silencing can be overcome by the combined activity of multiple trithorax group(trxG)proteins(Wu et al.,2012;Liang et al.,2015;Schuettengruber et al.,2017).trxG proteins are genetically defined as suppressors of homeotic defects caused by loss of Polycomb function and have diverse enzymatic activities(Schuettengruber et al.,2017).We used a genetic enhancer screen to identify candidate trxG proteins and uncovered trxG activity for components of the SWR1 chromatin remodeling complex,which deposits the histone variant H2A.Z(Deal et al.,2007;March-Diaz et al.,2008).

BACKGROUND Primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a very malignant tumor in the world. CARMA3 plays an oncogenic role in the pathogenesis of various tumors. However, the function of CARMA3 in HCC has not been fully clarified. AIM to study the biological function of CAEMA3 in HCC. MEtHODS tissue microarray slides including tissues form 100 HCC patients were applied to access the expression of CARMA3 in HCC and its clinical relevance. Knockdown and overexpression of CARMA3 were conducted with plasmid transfection. Mtt, colony formation, and apoptosis assays were performed to check the biological activity of cells. RESULtS Higher expression of CARMA3 in HCC was relevant to poor prognostic survival (P tion of CARMA3 inhibited proliferation and colony formation and induced apoptosis in HCC cell lines, while increasing its expression promoted tumorigenesis. We also found that sodium aescinate (sa), a natural herb extract, exerted anti-proliferation effects in HCC cells by suppressing the CARMA3/nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) pathway. CONCLUSION Overexpression of CARMA3 in HCC tissues correlates with a poor prognosis in HCC patients. CARMA3 acts pro-tumorigenic effects partly through activation of CARMA3/NF-κB. sa inhibits HCC growth by targeting CARMA3/NF-κB.

目的观察揿针对眼压控制后青光眼患者视功能的影响。方法采用前瞻性、多中心、随机对照临床研究,从各中心选取192例眼压控制后青光眼患者,随机分为揿针组及安慰针组,分别予以揿针、安慰针治疗。比较治疗前、治疗后2月及4月BCVA、眼压、MD、MS、RNFL。结果治疗前两组间BCVA、眼压、MD与MS、RNFL无差异(P>0.05)。治疗后2月及4月,安慰针组BCVA较治疗前明显降低(P0.05)。治疗后2月及4月,两组眼压无变化(P>0.05)。治疗后4月,安慰针组MS、MD较治疗前明显下降(P0.05)。治疗后4月,安慰针组RNFL较治疗前下降(P0.05),且揿针组RNFL明显高于安慰针组(P<0.05)。结论揿针可延缓眼压控制后青光眼患者视力下降及视网膜纤维层变薄,以改善眼压控制后青光眼患者视功能。

Malignancy and mortality in a population-based cohort of patients with coeliac disease or ‘gluten sensitivity’

AIM: to determine the risk of malignancy and mortality in patients with a positive endomysial or anti-gliadin an- tibody test in Northern Ireland. MEtHODS: A population-based retrospective cohort study design was used. Laboratory test results used in the diagnosis of coeliac disease were obtained from the Regional Immunology Laboratory, cancer statistics from the Northern Ireland Cancer Registry and mortal- ity statistics from the General Registrar Office, Northern Ireland. Age standardized incidence ratios of malignant neoplasms and standardized mortality ratios of all-cause and cause-specific mortality were calculated. RESULtS: A total of 13 338 people had an endomysial antibody and/or an anti-gliadin antibody test in Northern Ireland between 1993 and 1996. there were 490 pa- tients who tested positive for endomysial antibodies and they were assumed to have coeliac disease. there were 1133 patients who tested positive for anti-gliadin anti- bodies and they were defined as gluten sensitive. Ma- lignant neoplasms were not significantly associated with coeliac disease; however, all-cause mortality was signifi- cantly increased following diagnosis. the standardized incidence and mortality ratios for non-Hodgkin’s lym- phoma were increased in coeliac disease patients but did not reach statistical significance. Lung and breast cancer incidence were significantly lower and all-cause mortal-ity, mortality from malignant neoplasms, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and digestive system disorders were signifi- cantly higher in gluten sensitive patients compared to the Northern Ireland population. CONCLUSION: patients with coeliac disease or gluten sensitivity had higher mortality rates than the Northern Ireland population. this association persists more than one year after diagnosis in patients testing positive for anti-gliadin antibodies. Breast cancer is significantly re- duced in the cohort of patients with gluten sensitivity.

BACKGROUND Malnutrition,lipodystrophy,and dyslipidemia are prevalent characteristics in patients with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)infection with or without previous *** a clinical condition can lead to the hypothesis of the presence of hepatic steatosis with possible progression to fibrosis and the risk of hepatocellular ***,a low phase angle(pa),evaluated by bioelectrical impedance analysis(BIA),is an independent prognostic marker of clinical progression and survival in HIV-infected *** to evaluate the relationship between pa and body composition with steatosis and hepatic fibrosis in HIV/hepatitis C virus(HCV)-coinfected *** A retrospective observational study by convenience sampling of coinfected HIV/HCV patients,in which all patients underwent transient elastography(Fibroscan)and BIA ***’s t test was used for group comparisons,and Spearman’s or Pearson’s correlation test was used when *** significance level was set at 5%,and analyses were performed using SPSS version *** Forty-three patients who received antiretroviral therapy met the inclusion criteria,and 23(53.5%)were under treatment with protease inhibitors(PIs).there was no difference in pa between those who used PIs and those who did not(P=0.635).there was no correlation between fibrosis grade and pa(P=0.355)or lean mass(P=0.378).there was a significant inverse correlation between the controlled attenuation parameter(CAP)and lean mass(P=0.378),positive correlation between pa and lean mass(P=0.378),and negative correlation between pa and fatty mass(P=0.378),although the CAP and pa were not *** evaluated by sex,no significant correlations were *** pa determines the muscle function of HIV/HCV-coinfected patients,and the CAP values reinforce the association with lean mass,suggesting that patients require early nutritional interventions.
