Organic composition of gasoline and its potential effects on air pollution in North China

When gasoline is burned to power an automotive engine, a portion of the fuel remains unburned or is partially burned and leaves the engine as hydrocarbon and oxygenated compounds. In addition, a small portion of the fuel can escape the vehicle through evaporation. Changes in alkanes, olefins and aromatics each affect emissions differently, which could complicate control strategies for air pollution. In this study, we collected 31 gasoline samples over five provinces and cities(Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, and Shaanxi) in North China between 2012 and 2013. The organic composition of the gasoline samples was analyzed using the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) method, and the aniline compounds were analyzed by solvent extraction and the GC-MS method. The ratios of alkanes, aromatics, olefins and other organic compounds in gasoline were 40.6%, 38.1%, 12.9% and 8.4%, respectively. The aromatic and benzene exceedances were 15 and 8 based on the China's gasoline standards(III), and they accounted for 48.4% and 25.8% of all the gasoline samples, respectively. Strong carcinogen aniline compounds were detected in all 31 samples, and the content of aniline compounds in 3 samples exceeded 1%. The high proportion of aromatics and olefins in the gasoline increased the emissions of carbon monoxide(CO) and toxics, as well as the atmospheric photochemical reactivity of exhaust emissions, which could hasten the formation of secondary pollutants. Our results are helpful for redefining government strategies to control air pollution in North China and relevant for developing new refining technology throughout China.

Distributed Reduced-order Optimal Fusion Kalman Filters for Stochastic Singular Systems

Based on the optimal fusion algorithm weighted by matrices in the linear minimum variance (LMV) sense, a distributed full-order optimal fusion Kalman filter (DFFKF) is given for discrete-time stochastic singular systems with multiple sensors, which involves the inverse of a high-dimension matrix to compute matrix weights. To reduce the computational burden, a distributed reduced-order fusion Kalman filter (DRFKF) is presented, which involves in parallel the inverses of two relatively low-dimension matrices to compute matrix weights. A simulation example shows the effectiveness.

Transition metal catalyzed chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is considered as the most promising approach to synthesize highquality graphene films, and low-temperature growth of defect-free graphene films is long-term challenged because of the high energy barrier for precursor dissociation and graphitization. Reducing the growth temperature can also bring advantages on wrinkle-free graphene films owing to the minimized thermal expansion coefficient mismatch. This work focuses on density functional theory (DFT) calculations of the carbon source precursor with hydroxyl group, especially CH_(3)OH, on low-temperature CVD growth of graphene on Cu and CuNi substrate. We calculated all the possible cleavage paths for CH_(3)OH on transition metal substrates. The results show that, firstly, the cleavage barriers of CH_(3)OH on transition metal substrates are slightly lower than those of CH_(4), and once CO appears, it is difficult to break the C-O bond. Secondly, the CO promotes a better formation and retention of perfect rings in the early stage of graphene nucleation and reduces the edge growth barriers. Thirdly, these deoxidation barriers of CO are reduced after CO participates in graphene edge growth. This paper provides a strategy for the lowtemperature growth of wrinkles-free graphene on transition metal substrates using CH_(3)OH.

Assessing current stocks and future sequestration potential of forest biomass carbon in Daqing Mountain Nature Reserve of Inner Mongolia, China

Assessment of regional forest carbon stocks and underlying controls is critical for guiding forest management in the context of carbon sequestration. We investigated the variations in tree biomass carbon stocks relating to forest types, and estimated the total tree biomass carbon stocks and projected gains through natural stand development by 2020 and 2050 in the Daqing Mountain Nature Reserve based on Category II data of the Forest Inventory of Inner Mongolia for the period ending 2008. Over a total area of 388,577 ha,this nature reserve currently stores an estimated 2221 Gg C in tree aboveground biomass alone, with potential to grow by more than 30 % to reach 2938 Gg C by 2020 and nearly double to 4092 Gg C by 2050 through natural development of the existing forest stands. The tree biomass carbon density and potential gain in tree biomass carbon stocks vary markedly among forest types and with stand *** variations in the potential change of tree biomass carbon density for the periods 2008–2020 and 2008–2050 among forest types partly reflect the varying relationships of tree biomass carbon density with stand age for different tree species, and partly are attributable to variations in the stand age structure among different forest types. Of the major forest types, the ranking of projected changes in tree biomass carbon density are not consistent with variations in the relationship between tree biomass carbon density and stand age, neither are they explainable by variations in stand age structures, implying the interactive effect between forest type and stand dynamics on temporal changes in tree biomass carbon density. Birch rank highest for future biomass carbon sequestration because of its dominance in cover area and better age structure for potential gain in tree biomass carbon stocks. A Robust 3-D Medical Watermarking Based on Wavelet Transform for Data Protection

In a telemedicine diagnosis system,the emergence of 3D imaging enables doctors to make clearer judgments,and its accuracy also directly affects doctors’diagnosis of the *** order to ensure the safe transmission and storage of medical data,a 3D medical watermarking algorithm based on wavelet transform is proposed in this *** proposed algorithm employs the principal component analysis(PCA)transform to reduce the data dimension,which can minimize the error between the extracted components and the original data in the mean square ***,this algorithm helps to create a bacterial foraging model based on particle swarm optimization(BF-PSO),by which the optimal wavelet coefficient is found for embedding and is used as the absolute feature of watermark embedding,thereby achieving the optimal balance between embedding capacity and imperceptibility.A series of experimental results from MATLAB software based on the standard MRI brain volume dataset demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has strong robustness and make the 3D model have small deformation after embedding the watermark.

NADPH oxidase 4(NOX4)as a biomarker and therapeutic target in neurodegenerative diseases

Diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases are defined by inflammation and the damage neurons undergo due to oxidative stress. A primary reactive oxygen species contributor in the central nervous system, NADPH oxidase 4, is viewed as a potential therapeutic touchstone and indicative marker for these ailments. This in-depth review brings to light distinct features of NADPH oxidase 4, responsible for generating superoxide and hydrogen peroxide, emphasizing its pivotal role in activating glial cells, inciting inflammation, and disturbing neuronal functions. Significantly, malfunctioning astrocytes, forming the majority in the central nervous system, play a part in advancing neurodegenerative diseases, due to their reactive oxygen species and inflammatory factor secretion. Our study reveals that aiming at NADPH oxidase 4 within astrocytes could be a viable treatment pathway to reduce oxidative damage and halt neurodegenerative processes. Adjusting NADPH oxidase 4 activity might influence the neuroinflammatory cytokine levels, including myeloperoxidase and osteopontin, offering better prospects for conditions like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. This review sheds light on the role of NADPH oxidase 4 in neural degeneration, emphasizing its drug target potential, and paving the path for novel treatment approaches to combat these severe conditions.

It is difficult to identify and predict non-marine deep water sandstone reservoir facies and thickness,using routine seismic analyses in the Xingma area of the western Liaohe sag,due to low dominant frequencies,low signal-to-noise ratios,rapid lateral changes and high frequencies of layered *** this problem,four types of frequency spectral decomposition techniques were tested for reservoir *** these,the non-orthogonal Gabor-Morlet wavelet frequency decomposition method proved to be the best,was implemented directly in our frequency analysis and proved to be adaptable to non-stationary signals as *** method can overcome the limitations of regular spectral decomposition techniques and highlights local features of reservoir *** results are found to be in good agreement with well *** this method and a 3-D visualization technology, the distribution of non-marine deep water sandstone reservoirs can be precisely predicted.
