Tribological properties and tribomechanism of nickel nanoparticles in-situ synthesized in rapeseed oil

Nickel(Ni)nanoparticles can be enriched on the surface of iron-based frictional pairs,which provides the possibility to get rid of the competitive adsorption between the polar species of vegetable oil and the surface-active nano-additives thereon.In this paper,nickel acetylacetonate was used as a precursor to in-situ synthesize nickel nanoparticles with an average diameter of about 12 nm in rapeseed oil(RO)as the reducing agent,surface modifier,and solvent as well.The tribological properties of the as-synthesized Ni nanoparticles were evaluated with a four-ball tribometer,and their tribomechanism was investigated based on the characterizations of the tribofilm on rubbed steel surfaces by the scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).It was found that the Ni nanoparticles in-situ prepared in the RO with a mass fraction of 0.3%can reduce the wear scar diameter(WSD)of the steel ball by 36%.This is because,on the one hand,the Ni nanoparticles are adsorbed on the rubbed steel surfaces to repair or fill up the micro-pits and grooves thereon.On the other hand,Ni nanoparticles participate in tribochemical reactions with atmospheric O and steel substrate to form the tribochemical reaction film on the rubbed steel surfaces with the assistance of friction-induced heat and applied normal load.In addition,an amorphous carbon film is formed on the rubbed surface via the carbonization of base oil under the catalysis of Ni nanoparticles.The adsorbed Ni layer,the tribochemical reaction film,and the carbon layer comprise a composite tribofilm composed of amorphous carbon,polar fatty acid,metallic nickel,iron oxides,and nickel oxides on the rubbed steel surfaces,which contributes to significantly improving the antiwear ability and load-carrying capacity of the RO for the steel-steel sliding pair.

Correlation of personality with individual reproductive success in shrub-nesting birds depends on their life history style

Two questions in the research of animal personality—whether there is a correlation between a personality trait and individual reproductive success,and what is the genetic basis underlying a personality trait—remain unresolved.We addressed these two questions in three shrub-nesting birds,the Azure-winged Magpie(Cyanopica cyanus,AM),White-collared Blackbird(Turdus albocinctus,WB),and Brown-cheeked Laughingthrush(Trochalopteron henrici,BL).The personality type of an individual was first identified according to its response to a territorial intruder.Then,we compared the fleeing distance,breeding parameters,and differential expressed genes(DEGs) in the brain transcriptome between bold and shy breeders.In the three species,bold breeders exhibited more aggressiveness towards an intruder of their territory than did shy breeders.The reproductive success of bold breeders was significantly higher than that of shy breeders in AM but not in WB and BL.The three species shared one DEG,crabp1,which was up-regulated in bold relative to in shy individuals.By regulating the expression of corticotropin-releasing hormone,higher crabp1 gene expression can decrease cellular response to retinoic acid.Therefore,bold individuals are insensitive to external stresses and able to exhibit more aggressiveness to intruders than their shier counterparts.Aggressiveness is beneficial to bold individuals in AM but not in WB and BL because the former could evoke neighbors to make the same response of defending against intruders but the latter could not.Although a personality trait may have the same genetic basis across species,its correlation with reproductive success depends largely on the life history style of a species.

Growing evidences indicate that dysfunction of autophagy contributes to the disease pathogenesis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)and frontotemporal dementia(FTD),two neurodegenerative disorders.The GGGGCC·GGCCCC repeat RNA expansion in chromosome 9 open reading frame 72(C9orf72)is the most genetic cause of both ALS and FTD.According to the previous studies,GGGGCC·GGCCCC repeat undergoes the unconventional repeat-associated non-ATG translation,which produces dipeptide repeat(DPR)proteins.Although there is a growing understanding that C9orf72 DPRs have a strong ability to harm neurons and induce C9orf72-linked ALS/FTD,whether these DPRs can affect autophagy remains unclear.In the present study,we find that poly-GR and poly-PR,two arginine-containing DPRs which display the most cytotoxic properties according to the previous studies,strongly inhibit starvation-induced autophagy.Moreover,our data indicate that arginine-rich DPRs enhance the interaction between BCL2 and BECN1/Beclin 1 by inhibiting BCL2 phosphorylation,therefore they can impair autophagic clearance of neurodegenerative disease-associated protein aggregates under starvation condition in cells.Importantly,our study not only highlights the role of C9orf72 DPR in autophagy dysfunction,but also provides novel insight that pharmacological intervention of autophagy using SW063058,a small molecule compound that can disrupt the interaction between BECN1 and BCL2,may reduce C9orf72 DPR-induced neurotoxicity.

Unveiling a novel metal-to-metal transition in LuH_(2):Critically challenging superconductivity claims in lutetium hydrides

Following the recent report by Dasenbrock-Gammon et al.[Nature 615,244–250(2023)]of near-ambient superconductivity in nitrogendoped lutetium trihydride(LuH_(3-δ)N_(ε)),significant debate has emerged surrounding the composition and interpretation of the observed sharp resistance drop.Here,we meticulously revisit these claims through comprehensive characterization and investigations.We definitively identify the reported material as lutetium dihydride(LuH_(2)),resolving the ambiguity surrounding its composition.Under similar conditions(270–295 K and 1–2 GPa),we replicate the reported sharp decrease in electrical resistance with a 30%success rate,aligning with the observations by Dasenbrock-Gammon et al.However,our extensive investigations reveal this phenomenon to be a novel pressure-induced metal-to-metal transition intrinsic to LuH_(2),distinct from superconductivity.Intriguingly,nitrogen doping exerts minimal impact on this transition.Our work not only elucidates the fundamental properties of LuH_(2)andLuH_(3),but also critically challenges the notion of superconductivity in these lutetium hydride systems.These findings pave the way for future research on lutetium hydride systems,while emphasizing the crucial importance of rigorous verification in claims of ambient-temperature superconductivity.

Laser projection proximity transfer for deterministic assembly of microchip arrays at scale

Deterministic assembly techniques that enable programmatic and massively parallel integration of chips are essential for the development of novel electronic systems such as micro LED displays.However,large-area integration of ultrathin micro-chips with high yield and transfer accuracy remains a great challenge due to the difficulties in selective transfer,adhesion switchability,and transfer deviation.Here,a“laser projection proximity transfer(Laser PPT)”technique is presented for the deterministic assembly of microchip arrays at scale.One of the remarkable features is that the transfer status between the chip and the receiver substrate evolves from the original non-contact mode to contact mode for high-precision transfer,which overcomes the strict requirements of the flatness of stamp and substrate in contact-style transfer,and flight deviation of microchip array in noncontact-style transfer.Another feature is the rapid modulation of interfacial adhesion for reliable transfer via the use of thermally expandable microspheres to form microstructures and combining with a laser-induced blister.The adhesion regulation range is over 20 times without any damage to chip arrays.The results show that the transfer accuracy has been improved substantially with a minimum relative error of~0.5%.Combined with a laser beam projection system,demonstrations of Laser PPT for selective assembly of fragile objects onto challenging non-adhesive/cured surfaces in batch illustrate its potential in the highprecision integration of microscale chips at scale.

提出一种基于盲源分离(BSS)从多角度投影提取出任意深度聚焦层的数字乳腺层析合成摄影(DBT)重建算法。首先,通过DBT成像设备采集乳腺的多角度投影,并对投影进行校正、对数变换等预处理工作;然后以中心投影为基准,根据成像几何将多角度投影通过位移聚焦到所选的重建深度z处;最后,将位移后的多角度投影视为由一个聚焦层内信息和若干层外信息构成的线性组合,进而通过BSS将聚焦层信息分离出来,由此快速重建出乳腺厚度范围内任意深度z处的层面。以中心投影为参考,将位移叠加(SAA)法、滤波反投影(FBP)法、最大似然期望最大化(MLEM)3种当前DBT重建的主要算法与所提重建算法进行比较,4种算法对原投影的噪声污染的改善程度分别为13.4%、18.8%、88.5%、73.6%,图像对比度分别下降83.7%、81.4%、74.6%、10.7%,与中心投影的特征相似性分别为0.841、0.866、0.861、0.886,结构相似性分别为0.596、0.594、0.628、0.787,伪影扩散平均值分别为0.571、0.254、0.189、0.146。此外所提算法的重建速度小于SAA、FBP,但比采用2次迭代的MLEM高56.0%,因此所提算法在降低噪声、保持细节、抑制伪影、重建速度方面的综合性能优秀,且随着BSS技术和计算机硬件水平的快速发展而不断提高其分离重建性能,因此所提算法是一种实用性强、极具发展潜力的DBT重建算法。

QL1706 (anti-PD-1 IgG4/CTLA-4 antibody) plus chemotherapy with or without bevacizumab in advanced non-small cell lung cancer: a multi-cohort, phase II study

First-line chemoimmunotherapy(with or without bevacizumab)has improved outcomes in advanced non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Here,this open-label,multi-cohort phase II study(NCT05329025)was done to investigate the safety and efficacy of QL1706(a single bifunctional MabPair product against PD-1 and CTLA-4)and chemotherapy with or without bevacizumab in this population.Patients were enrolled into five different cohorts based on genotype(cohorts 1-4,epidermal growth factor receptor[EGFR]wild-type;cohort 5,EGFR-mutant and progressed on EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors[TKIs]).Between June 11,2021 and December 29,2021,91 patients were enrolled.Most frequent treatment-related adverse events(TRAEs)included decreased appetite(60[65.9%]),anemia(60[65.9%]),infusion-related reactions(48[52.7%]),and pruritus(44[48.4%]).Grade≥3 TRAEs occurred in 30(33.0%)patients.Twenty-seven(45%)patients with wild-type EGFR achieved partial response(PR)(objective response rate[ORR]=45%)and had a median progression-free survival(mPFS)of 6.8 months(95%CI:5.2-9.7).For 31 patients harboring mutated EGFR,17(54.8%)achieved PR(ORR=54.8%),with an mPFS of 8.5 months(95%CI:5.72-not evaluable).Overall,QL1706 plus chemotherapy,regardless of having bevacizumab,was generally tolerable and had promising antitumor activity for EGFR wild-type advanced NSCLC in first-line setting.Moreover,QL1706 plus chemotherapy and bevacizumab showed favorable antitumor activity for patients who had EGFR mutated NSCLC but failed in TKI therapy,demonstrating a potential for treating this population.

A Unified Approach to Construct Generalized B-Splines for Isogeometric Applications

Generalized B-splines have been employed as geometric modeling and numerical simulation tools for isogeometric analysis(IGA for short). However, the previous models used in IGA,such as trigonometric generalized B-splines or hyperbolic generalized B-splines, are not the unified mathematical representation of conics and polynomial parametric curves/surfaces. In this paper,a unified approach to construct the generalized non-uniform B-splines over the space spanned by{α(t), β(t), ξ(t), η(t), 1, t, ···, t^(n-4)} is proposed, and the corresponding isogeometric analysis framework for PDE solving is also studied. Compared with the NURBS-IGA method, the proposed frameworks have several advantages such as high accuracy, easy-to-compute derivatives and integrals due to the non-rational form. Furthermore, with the proposed spline models, isogeometric analysis can be performed on the computational domain bounded by transcendental curves/surfaces, such as the involute of circle, the helix/helicoid, the catenary/catenoid and the cycloid. Several numerical examples for isogeometric heat conduction problems are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

铝电解阳极炭渣属于危废,但也是价值较高的含氟资源,其冰晶石含量约为70%(质量分数),有较大的回收利用价值。为实现阳极炭渣的资源化增值利用,探究了一步焙烧脱碳回收冰晶石的工艺,通过在阳极炭渣中添加反应助剂进行催化焙烧,考察了焙烧温度、保温时间、药剂配比对炭渣脱碳率的影响,得到实验最优条件:焙烧温度为760℃、保温时间为2.5 h、反应助剂添加量为5%(质量分数),该条件下脱碳率达到97.75%。对添加5%反应助剂的炭渣进行差热分析,得到了添加反应助剂催化焙烧阳极炭渣的燃烧规律,随着温度的升高先后发生结晶水的分解、反应助剂的燃烧、炭渣中碳的燃烧及电解质的挥发。所得到的产品中未见明显的碳残留,主要成分为冰晶石且催化焙烧过程中未引入新杂质,回收的冰晶石中铁硅杂质含量低、品质高,可直接返回电解槽循环使用。
