Effects of interstitial H and/or C atoms on the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of La(Fe, Si)_(13)-based compounds

La（Fe, Si）13-based compounds have been considered as promising candidates for magnetic refrigerants particularly near room temperature. Herein we review recent progress particularly in the study of the effects of interstitial H and/or C atoms on the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of La（Fe, Si）13 compounds. By introducing H and/or C atoms, the Curie temperature Tc increases notably with the increase of lattice expansion which makes the Fe 3d band narrow and reduces the overlap of the Fe 3d wave functions. The first-order itinerant-electron metamagnetic transition is conserved and the MCE still remains high after hydrogen absorption. In contrast, the characteristic of magnetic transition varies from first-order to second-order with the increase of C concentration, which leads to remarkable reduction of thermal and magnetic hysteresis. In addition, the introduc- tion of interstitial C atoms promotes the formation of NaZnl3-type （1：13） phase in La（Fe, Si）13 compounds, and thus reducing the annealing time significantly from 40 days for LaFe11.7Sil.3 to a week for LaFell.7Sil.3C0.2. The pre-occupied interstitial C atoms may depress the rate of hydrogen absorption and release, which is favorable to the accurate control of hydrogen content. It is found that the reduction of particle size would greatly depress the hysteresis loss and improve the hydrogenation process. By the incorporation of both H and C atoms, large MCE without hysteresis loss can be obtained in La（Fe, Si）13 compounds around room temperature, for instance, La0.7Pr0.3Fe115Si15C0.2H12 exhibits a large IASM[ of 22.1 J/（kg＇K） at Tc = 321 K without hysteresis loss for a field change of 0-5 T.

The specific heat of nanocrystalline iron with grain size of 40nm has been measured in the low temperature range from 1.8 to *** anomalous specific heat behavior of nanocrystalline iron is compared to that of the standard bulk *** is found that the electronic specific heat coefficientγobtained at low temperatures decreases by about 50%.A T^(2) term in the heat capacity associated with surface modes has been clearly observed.A large enhancement of the specific heat at temperatures above 16K may be interpreted as the Einstein oscillator contributions.

Exchange interaction and demagnetization process of high-abundance rare-earth magnets sintered using dual alloy method

The 2:14:1-type rare-earth(RE)-Fe-B permanent magnets prepared by the dual alloy method have been found to possess much superior magnetic properties to those prepared by the single alloy method,providing an appealing route to promote the utilization of high-abundance RE elements Ce and La and balance the use of the RE ***,the relationship between magnetic interactions among different 2:14:1 main phases and superior magnetic properties is still *** this study,we investigated the magnetic interactions and reversal field distribution in these magnets using first-order reversal curve(FORC)*** FORC images showed that(Nd,Pr)27.8(La,Ce)2.7FebalM1.4B1.0(S-9)and(Nd,Pr)19.5(La,Ce)11.0FebalM1.4B1.0(S-36)have the characteristics of multiple main *** reverse magnetic fields corresponding to the soft and hard main phases,as well as the associated exchange coupling,were highly dependent on the La Ce *** higher the La Ce content,the weaker the exchange coupling and the more asynchronous the demagnetization *** addition,the FORC images indicated that the magnetization reversal process also varies with La Ce content,where the nucleation and propagation of reversed domains dominant in the S-9 magnet,while the domain propagation in the S-36 magnet is considerably *** micromagnetic simulations also revealed that the coercivity and exchange coupling of multi-main-phase magnets decrease with increasing La Ce content,correlating well with the experimental *** findings may not only contribute to a better understanding of the complex magnetic interactions between the soft and hard phases and how they affect macroscopic magnetic properties but also help in improving the magnetic performance of the RE-Fe-B magnets with high La Ce content.

Multistate magnetic memory effect in heterostructures composed of FeRh thin films with antiferromagnetic(AFM)-ferromagnetic(FM)phase transition and(001)-oriented PMN-PT substrates has been *** a unipolar electric field,the nonvolatile change in magnetization was nearly doubled compared with that obtained utilizing a conventional bipolar *** stable nonvolatile magnetic states were obtained over a broad temperature span,from 320 to 390K,by adjusting the amplitude of the unipolar electric pulses,demonstrating the possibility of realizing a multistate nonvolatile magnetic memory in the FeRh/PMN-PT *** work provides a new strategy for enhancing the magnetic response by utilizing unipolar electric fields and promotes the utilization of AFM-FM phase transition materials in multifunctional information storage and novel spintronic devices.

Spin Seebeck effect and spin Hall magnetoresistance in the Pt/Y_3Fe_5O_(12) heterostructure under laser-heating

In the previous study of longitudinal spin Seebeck effect（LSSE）, the thermal gradient was often generated by inserting the sample between the cool bath and the hot bath. For practical use, this method is too cumbersome to be easily integrated into modern electrical circuits. Since the laser can be easily focused into a small region, it will be more convenient and friendly to the integrated circuit. In this paper, we systematically investigate the LSSE and spin Hall magnetoresistance（SMR） of the Pt/Y_3 Fe_5 O_（12） heterostructure under focused laser-heating. We find that the extremely large voltage of inverse spin Hall effect（VISHE） can be obtained by reducing the diameter of laser or increasing the number of light ***, even under the illumination of the ultraviolet light which will excite the electron from the valence band to the conduction band in yttrium iron garnet（YIG）, the magnitude of SMR is nearly constant. It indicates that the spin transport behavior of the adjacent Pt is independent of the electron configuration of YIG. The laser-heating method to generate LSSE will be very promising for modern integrated electronic circuits and will promote the application of spin caloritronics in practice.

Magnetic Anisotropy Induced by Orbital Occupation States in La_(0.67)Sr_(0.33)MnO_(3) Films

Interface engineering is an effective and feasible method to regulate the magnetic anisotropy of films by altering interfacial states between *** the technique of pulsed laser deposition,we prepared La_(0.67)Sr_(0.33)MnO_(3)(LSMO)and La_(0.67)Sr_(0.33)MnO_(3)/SrCoO_(2.5)(LSMO/SCO)films on(110)-oriented La_(0.3)Sr_(0.7)Al_(0.65)Ta_(0.35)O_(3) *** covering the SCO film above the LSMO film,we transformed the easy magnetization axis of LSMO from the[001]axis to the[110]axis in the film *** on statistical analyses,we find that the corresponding Mn-Mn ionic distances are different in the two types of LSMO films,causing different distortions of Mn-O octahedron in *** addition,it also induces diverse electronic occupation states in Mn^(3+)*** e_(g) electron of Mn^(3+)occupies 3z^(2)-r^(2) and x^(2)-y^(2) orbitals in the LSMO and LSMO/SCO,*** conclude that the electronic spin reorientation leads to the transformation of the easy magnetization axis in the LSMO films.
