To the Editor:Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has evolved into a global pandemic,with over 700 million confirmed cases worldwide and still mounting.^([1])The clinical impact of this pandemic is immense,given the wide spectrum of disease manifestation,ranging from mild respiratory symptoms to severe pulmonary infections.Identifying high-risk individuals,especially during their initial encounters in clinics and hospital emergency services,is crucial to provide timely effective treatment.Therefore,the timely risk stratification of COVID-19 patients in the emergency room can greatly benefit both infected individuals and healthcare professionals.^([2])This study aims to identify features of serious COVID-19 infection at presentation that may lead to mortality of the patients.

Effect of Phase Separation Size on the Properties of Self-healing Elastomer

Regulation of phase structure has been recognized as one of the most effective ways to fabricate self-healing polymers with high mechanical strength.The mechanical properties of the resultant polymers are certainly affected by the size of separated phase domain.However,the study on this aspect is absence,because it can hardly exclude the influence of variation in monomer proportion required for tuning the separated phase size.Here,we report the first study on tuning the phase size through reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer(RAFT)polymerization without changing the proportion of monomers.As expected,the size of separated phase has been successfully mediated from 15 nm to 9 nm by tuning the molecular weight of the chain transfer agent.It is found that the mechanical strength and the self-healing efficiency of the resultant polymers increase simultaneously with the decrease of phase size.The study on the formation kinetics of hydrogen bonds reveals that the decrease of phase size can facilitate the re-bonding rate of hydrogen bonds,even if the migration of polymer chains is restricted.

Yield penalty of maize(Zea mays L.) under heat stress in different growth stages: A review

Maize(Zea mays L.) can exhibit yield penalties as a result of unfavorable changes to growing conditions. The main threat to current and future global maize production is heat stress. Maize may suffer from heat stress in all of the growth stages, either continuously or separately. In order to manage the impact of climate driven heat stress on the different growth stages of maize, there is an urgent need to understand the similarities and differences in how heat stress affects maize growth and yield in the different growth stages. For the purposes of this review, the maize growth cycle was divided into seven growth stages, namely the germination and seedling stage, early ear expansion stage, late vegetative growth stage before flowering, flowering stage, lag phase, effective grain-filling stage, and late grain-filling stage. The main focus of this review is on the yield penalty and the potential physiological changes caused by heat stress in these seven different stages. The commonalities and differences in heat stress related impacts on various physiological processes in the different growth stages are also compared and discussed. Finally, a framework is proposed to describe the main influences on yield components in different stages, which can serve as a useful guide for identifying management interventions to mitigate heat stress related declines in maize yield.

To investigate the relationship between grain sizes, seepage capacity, and oil-displacement efficiency in the Liushagang Formation of the Beibuwan Basin, this study identifies the multistage pore-throat structure as a crucial factor through a comparison of oil displacement in microscopic pore-throat experiments. The two-phase flow evaluation method based on the Li-Horne model is utilized to effectively characterize and quantify the seepage characteristics of different reservoirs, closely relating them to the distribution of microscopic pores and throats. It is observed that conglomerate sandstones at different stages exhibit significant heterogeneity and noticeable differences in seepage capacity, highlighting the crucial role played by certain large pore throats in determining seepage capacity and oil displacement efficiency. Furthermore, it was found that the displacement effects of conglomeratic sandstones with strong heterogeneity were inferior to those of conventional homogeneous sandstone, as evidenced by multiple displacement experiments conducted on core samples with varying granularities and flooding systems. Subsequently, core-based experiments on associated gas flooding after water flooding were conducted to address the challenge of achieving satisfactory results in a single displacement mode for reservoirs with significant heterogeneity. The results indicate that the oil recovery rates for associated gas flooding after water flooding increased by 7.3%-16.4% compared with water flooding alone at a gas-oil ratio of approximately 7000 m^(3)/m^(3). Therefore, considering the advantages of gas flooding in terms of seepage capacity, oil exchange ratio, and the potential for two-phase production, gas flooding is recommended as an energy supplement mode for homogeneous reservoirs in the presence of sufficient gas source and appropriate tectonic angle. On the other hand, associated gas flooding after water flooding is suggested to achieve a more favorable development effect compared to a single mode of energy

本文把ICM方法中的过滤函数和变密度方法中的惩罚函数统称为映射函数,研究了该函数的选取问题,探讨了其选取对于结构拓扑优化优化迭代收敛效率的影响.为此,本文提出了高效率收敛的映射函数构造途径,写出了5类常见的具体映射函数形式,提出同高效率收敛映射函数MFHEC(Mapping function with highly efficient convergence)相配套的优化模型和寻优解法,先是自行比较了同类映射函数的过滤函数和准过滤函数寻优中收敛的快慢,然后相互比较了不同形式映射函数的快滤函数寻优收敛的快慢.以ICM方法求解位移约束下结构体积极小的拓扑优化问题为例,通过数值计算比较,印证了MFHEC函数的高效率收敛性.结果表明:同类函数比较中,快滤函数的收敛速度更快;5种不同类型映射函数比较中,幂函数形式的过滤函数收敛速度更快.最后需要强调的是:本文研究的映射函数的结论,包括ICM方法的过滤函数和变密度方法中的惩罚函数,二者都是同样适用的.

Active metasurfaces whose optical properties can be tuned by an external stimulus have attracted great research interest recently. Introduction of VO_(2)phase change material in all-dielectric metasurfaces has been demonstrated to modulate the resonance wavelength and amplitude in the visible to near-infrared wavelength range. In this study, we report a mid-infrared active metasurface based on Si∕VO_(2)hybrid meta-atoms. By incorporating VO_(2)thin films in different locations of Si∕VO_(2)all-dielectric nanodisks, we demonstrate different modulation amplitude of the electric or magnetic resonance scattering cross sections, leading to drastically different transmission spectrum upon VO_(2)insulator to metal phase transition. The physical mechanism is originated from the field profiles of the resonance modes, which interact with VO_(2)differently depending on its locations. Based on this mechanism, we experimentally demonstrated a large modulation of the transmittance from 82% to 28% at the 4.6 μm wavelength. Our work demonstrates a promising potential of VO_(2)-based active all-dielectric metasurface for mid-infrared photonic applications such as infrared camouflage, chemical/biomedical sensing, optical neuromorphic computing, and multispectral imaging.

Background This study explored the diagnostic performance of visceral adiposity to predict the degree of intestinal inflammation and fibrosis.Methods The patients with Crohn’s disease(CD)who underwent surgical small bowel resection at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University(Guangzhou,China)between January 2007 and December 2017 were enrolled.We evaluated the intestinal imaging features of computed tomography enterography(CTE),including mesenteric inflammatory fat stranding,the target sign,mesenteric hypervascularity,bowel wall thickening,lymphadenopathy,stricture diameter,and maximal upstream diameter.We used A.K.software(Artificial Intelligence Kit,version 1.1)to calculate the visceral fat(VF)and subcutaneous fat(SF)volumes at the third lumbar vertebra level.Pathological tissue information was recorded.Diagnostic models were established based on the multivariate regression analysis results,and their effectiveness was evaluated by area under the curve(AUC)and decision curve analyses.Results Overall,48 patients with CD were included in this study.The abdominal VF/SF volume ratio(odds ratio,1.20;95%confidence interval,1.05–1.38;P=0.009)and the stenosis diameter/upstream intestinal dilatation diameter(ND)ratio(odds ratio,0.90;95%confidence interval,0.82–0.99;P=0.034)were independent risk factors for the severe fibrosis of the small intestine.The AUC values of the VF/SF ratio,the ND ratio,and their combination were 0.760,0.673,and 0.804,respectively.The combination of the VS/SF volume ratio and ND ratio achieved the highest net benefit on the decision curve.Conclusion The VF volume on CTE can reflect intestinal fibrosis.The combination of the VF/SF volume ratio and ND ratio of CD patients assessed using CTE can help predict severe fibrosis stenosis of the small intestine.

Evaluation of Trace Elements in the Soil of Typical Peach Orchards in Zunyi City

[Objectives]This study was conducted to clarify the enrichment and paucity of trace elements in the soil environment of peach orchards in Zunyi City,and to provide reference for supplementary application of microelement fertilizers and high-quality peach production in peach orchards.[Methods]Taking the soil of three typical peach orchards(Taoli Renjia peach orchard,pengrui peach orchard and Taohuadao peach orchard)in Shenxi Town,Honghuagang District,Zunyi City as the research object,the contents of trace elements in soil were analyzed through field sampling and indoor determination of trace elements.[Results]The effective contents of trace elements in the soil of peach orchard bases in the study area were at a medium level,and the soil of the peach orchards was rich in available Fe and Se.The contents of available Cu,Mo and Mn were relatively rich.The contents of available B were not high overall.The contents of available Zn were at a moderate to low level overall.The soil of Taoli Renjia peach orchard was relatively rich in trace elements.[Conclusions]The research results can provide a scientific basis for the production of high-quality crispy peaches in peach orchards.
