AIM： To investigate the myxoma peritonei （PMP） histological origin of pseudo- n Chinese women. METHODS： The clinical and pathological data were reviewed for 35 women with PMP, and specimens of the peritoneal, appendiceal and ovarian lesions of each patient were examined using the PV-6000 immunohistochemistry method. Antibodies included cytokeratin （CK）7, CK20, mucin （MUC）-1, MUC-2, carbohydrate antigen （CA）-125, estrogen receptor （ER）, and progesterone receptor （PR）. RESULTS： Abundant colloidal mucinous tumors were observed in the peritoneum in all 35 cases. Thirty-one patients had a history of appendectomy, 28 of whom had mucinous lesions. There was one patient with appendicitis, one whose appendix showed no apparent pathological changes, and one with unknown surgical pathology. Ovarian mucinous tumors were found in 24 patients. The tumors were bilateral in 13 patients, on the right-side in nine, and on the left side in two. Twenty patients had combined appendiceal and ovarian lesions; 16 of whom had undergone initial surgery for appendiceal lesions. Four patients had undergone initial surgery for ovarian lesions, and relapse occurred in these patients at 1, 11, 32 and 85 mo after initial surgery. Appendi-ceal mucinous tumors were found in each of these four patients. Thirty-three of the 35 patients showed peritoneal lesions that were positive for CK20 and MUC-2, but negative for CK7, MUC-1, CA125, ER and PR. The expression patterns in the appendix and the ovary were similar to those of the peritoneal lesions. In one of the remaining two cases, CK20, CK7 and MUC-2 were positive, and MUC-1, CA125, ER and PR were negative. The ovaries were not resected. The appendix of one patient was removed at another hospital, and no specimen was evaluated. In the other case, the appendix appeared to be normal during surgery, and was not resected. This study was carried out to investigate the transfection effect of exogenous gene into plant protoplast cell mediated by polyethylenimine （PEI） nanovector, based on PEI gene delivery system in the field of medical science. PEI/DNA complexes were prepared by using PEI polymer to bind the plant expression plasmid, pCMl205-GFPn. The ability of PEI combining and protecting DNA was investigated by agarose gel electrophoresis retardation assay. The surface characteristics of PEI/DNA complexes were observed with transmission electron microscope. The transfection efficiency of Arabidopsis thaliana protoplasts mediated by PEI/DNA complexes at different N/P ratios was analyzed based on observation of transient expression of green fluorescent protein with confocal laser scanning microscope. PEI could bind and condense DNA, and form stable 100-200 nm PEI/DNA complexes when the proportion of PEl and DNA is in the range of 5：1-1：4. Transfection efficiency of PEI/DNA complexes increased with N/P ratios in range of N/P〈5 and reached the highest at N/P=5, and began to decrease beyond N/P〉5 as higher toxicity to cells. The transfection efficiency of PEI/DNA complexes at N/P=5 was higher than PEG. This study confirmed that PEI nanovector could effectively mediate foreign gene entering into A. thaliana protoplast cell to obtain transient expression, which may be developed as a hopeful and novel transgenic method combined with plant protoplast regeneration.

Extensive iron deposition has been observed in the midbrain substantia nigra （SN） of Parkinson＇s disease （PD） patients, but the mechanisms of iron deposition in the SN remain poorly understood. The present study investigated the relationship between dopaminergic neuronal damage, iron content changes, and divalent metal transporter 1 （DMT1） in the midbrain SN of PD rats to explore the relationship between time of iron deposition and DMT1 expression. Frozen midbrain SN sections from model rats were stained with Perls＇ iron. Results showed massive loss of tyrosine hydroxylase （TH）-positive cells in the SN and increased DMT1 expression in model group rats. No obvious iron deposition was observed in the SN during early stages after damage, but significant iron deposition was detected at 8 weeks post-injury. Results demonstrate that the loss of TH-positive cells in the SN appeared simultaneously with increased DMT1 expression. Extensive iron deposition occurred at 8 weeks post injury, which could be regarded as an early time window of iron deposition.

Microtexture Evolution and Grain Boundary Character Distribution of Interstitial-Free Steels With Moderate Levels of Cold Rolling Reductions

High-strength interstitial-free steel sheets have very good deep drawability when processed to have { 111 } recrystallization texture. The microtexture evolution and grain boundary character distribution of interstitial-free steels as a function of moderate levels of cold rolling reductions were investigated by the metallographic microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction technique. The results showed that there was a close relationship between micro- texture and grain boundary character distribution for interstitial-free steel, especially the distribution and features of some specific types of coincident-site lattice boundaries. In addition, a-fiber texture was weakened to vanish while 7- fiber texture strengthened gradually as cold rolling reduction was increased from 20% to 75 % for cold rolled and an- nealed samples. Accordingly, increasing the rolling reduction from 20 % to 750% would lead to a significant increase in the proportion of ∑3 boundaries. Also, it was found that the microtexture of 20% cold rolled sample would induce a high frequency of ∑11 grain boundaries, but the microtexture of 75% cold rolled sample would produce more ∑7 and ∑17 grain boundaries. It was suggested that texture played a significant role in the formation of grain boundary character distribution.

A new selenidoarsenate [Co（en）3]2As2Se5 1 （en = ethylenediamine） was synthesized by a reaction of AsCI3, CoCl2-6H2O and Se in en under mild solvothermal conditions, and the structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Pbca with a = 15.5092（12）, b = 11.5756（9）, c = 17.8138（14） A, V = 3198.1（4） A^3, Mr= 1023.12, Z = 4, D, = 2.125 g/cm^3,μ = 8.807 mm^-1, F（000） = 1976, S = 1.171, the final R = 0.0591 and wR = 0.1067 for 3170 observed reflections with 1 〉 2σ（I）. 1 consists of isolated dimeric [As2Se5]^4- anion constructed by two corner-sharing AsSe3 trigonal pyramids and transition metal [Co（en）3]^2＋ cations. The optical absorption property and thermal stability of 1 are reported.

The phase behavior of a well-defined poly(methyl methacrylate)- b- polystyrene block copolymer was studied by transmission electron microscope. The results show that a microphase transition may have occurred in the copolymer film. A kind of lamellae and an ordered bicontinuous double-diamond morphology are observed clearly. The lamellar morphology reveals a larger period of about 400 nm.

This paper deals with the dividend optimization problem for an insurance company, whose surplus follows a jump-diffusion process. The objective of the company is to maximize the expected total discounted dividends paid out until the time of ruin. Under concavity assumption on the optimal value function, the paper states some general properties and, in particular, smoothness results on the optimal value function, whose analysis mainly relies on viscosity solutions of the associated Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman （HJB） equations. Based on these properties, the explicit expression of the optimal value function is obtained. And some numerical calculations are presented as the application of the results.

A Point Mutation in an F-Box Domain-Containing Protein Is Responsible for Brown Hull Phenotype in Rice

The accumulation of pigments affects the color of rice hulls while only limited information is known about its underlying mechanisms. In the present study, a rice brown hull 6（bh6） mutant was isolated from an ethane methyl sulfonate（EMS）-induced IR64 mutant bank. Brown pigments started to accumulate in bh6 rice hulls after heading and reached a higher level in mature seeds. Some major agronomic traits including panicle length and 1000-grain weight in bh6 were significantly lower than those in its corresponding wild type IR64, while other agronomic traits such as plant height, growth duration and seed-setting rate were largely similar between the two genotypes. The analysis of pigment content showed that the contents of total flavonoids and anthocyanin in bh6 hulls were significantly higher than those in IR64 hulls. Our results showed that the brown hull phenotype in bh6 was controlled by a single recessive gene which locates on the long arm of chromosome 9. Sequencing analysis detected a single base substitution（G/A） at position 1013 of the candidate gene（LOC_Os09g12150） encoding an F-box domain-containing protein（FBX310）. Functional complementation experiment using the wild type allele can rescue the phenotype in bh6. Thus, we named this mutated gene as Os FBX310^（bh6）, an allele of OsFBX310 functioning as an inhibitor of brown hull. The isolation of Os FBX310^（bh6） and its wild type allele can provide useful experimental materials and will facilitate the studies on revealing the mechanisms of flavonoid metabolism in monocot plants.
