Surface engineering of 1D nanocatalysts for value-added selective electrooxidation of organic chemicals

Electrolytic water splitting by renewable energy is a technology with great potential for producing hydrogen(H_(2))without carbon emission,but this technical route is hindered by its huge energy(electricity)cost,which is mainly wasted by the anode oxygen evolution reaction(OER)while the value of the anode product(oxygen)is very *** the high-energy-cost OER with a selective organic compound electrooxidation carried out at a relatively lower potential can reduce the electricity cost while producing value-added ***,H_(2) generation coupled with synthesis of value-added organic compounds faces the challenge of low selectivity and slow generation rate of the anodic ***-dimensional(1D)nanocatalysts with a unique morphology,well-defined active sites,and good electron conductivity have shown excellent performance in many electrocatalytic *** rational design and regulation of 1D nanocatalysts through surface engineering can optimize the adsorption energy of intermediate molecules and improve the selectivity of organic electrooxidation ***,we summarized the recent research progress of 1D nanocatalysts applied in different organic electrooxidation reactions and introduced several different fabrication strategies for surface engineering of 1D ***,we focused on the relationship between surface engineering and the selectivity of organic electrooxidation reaction ***,future challenges and development prospects of 1D nanocatalysts in the coupled system consisting of organic electrooxidation and hydrogen evolution reactions are briefly outlined.

Analysis of application range of simplified models for field to thermo-field to thermionic emission processes from the cathode

Electron emission plays a dominant role in plasma-cathode interactions and is a key factor in many plasma phenomena and industrial *** is necessary to illustrate the various electron emission mechanisms and the corresponding applicable description models to evaluate their impacts on discharge *** this study,detailed expressions of the simplified formulas valid for field emission to thermo-field emission to thermionic emission typically used in the numerical simulation are proposed,and the corresponding application ranges are determined in the framework of the Murphy-Good theory,which is commonly regarded as the general model and to be accurate in the full range of conditions of the validity of the *** parameterization was used to evaluate the emission current density of the Murphy-Good formula,and a deviation factor was defined to obtain the application ranges for different work functions(2.5‒5 eV),cathode temperatures(300‒6000 K),and emitted electric fields(10^(5) to 10^(10) V·m^(-1)).The deviation factor was shown to be a nonmonotonic function of the three parameters.A comparative study of particle number densities in atmospheric gas discharge with a tungsten cathode was performed based on the one-dimensional implicit particle-in-cell(PIC)with the Monte Carlo collision(MCC)method according to the aforementioned application *** was found that small differences in emission current density can lead to variations in the distributions of particle number density due to changes in the collisional *** study provides a theoretical basis for selecting emission models for subsequent numerical simulations.

Heterobimetallic[NiCo]integration in a hydrogenase mimic for boosting light-driven hydrogen evolution in CaTiO_(3)

light-drive hydrogen production using titanium-based perovskite is one sustainable way to reduce current reliance on fossil fuels,but its wide applications are still limited by high electron−hole recombination and sluggish surface ***,the developments for low-cost and highly efficient co-catalysts remain *** by natural[NiFe]-hydrogenase active center structure,a hydrogenase-mimic,NiCo_(2)S_(4) nanozyme was synthesized,and subsequently decorated onto the CaTiO_(3) to catalyze the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).Among the following test,CaTiO_(3)with a 15%loading of NiCo_(2)S_(4) nanozyme exhibited the highest HER rate of 307.76μmol·g^(–1)·h^(–1),which is 60 times higher than that of the CaTiO_(3) *** results reveal that NiCo_(2)S_(4) not only significantly increased the charge separation efficiency of the photogenerated carriers,but also substantively lowered the HER activation *** studies show that NiCo_(2)S_(4) readily splits H_(2)O by forming the Ni(OH)-Co intermediate and only Ni in the bimetallic center alters the oxidation state during the HER process in a manner analogous to the[NiFe]-*** contrast to the often-expensive synthetic catalysts that rely on rare elements such as ruthenium and platinum,this study shows a promising way to develop the nature-inspired cocatalysts to enhance the photocatalysts’HER performance.

Extraction of silica from fly ash to produce mesoporous silica materials is one of the most important utilization *** silica could not be synthesized on a large-scale by conventional sol-gel *** this paper,facile preparation of mesoporous silica with controllable pore structure from fly ash by the template-free process via two steps of mineral phase transformation and selective acid etching was *** influence of crystalline structure and acid etching degree on structure of as-synthesized mesoporous silica materials was revealed,as well as mechanism of crystalline structure transformation and pore structure *** results show that mullite and quartz could be transformed into acid-soluble kaliophilite when fly ash reacted with K_(2)CO_(3)at temperature of 800-1100℃.The hexagonal kaliophilite would be transformed into orthorhombic KAlSiO_(4)-O1 phase when the temperature is controlled at 1100℃.Mesoporous silica with specific surface area of 475.93 m^(2)/g and 642.57 m^(2)/g could be synthesized from activated fly ash with kaliophilite and KAlSiO_(4)-O1 phase crystalline *** controlling the degree of acid etching,mesoporous silica materials with different pore structures can be *** paper provides a cost-effective and large-scale process for the preparation of mesoporous silica materials with controllable pore structure from solid waste fly ash.

Abiotic transformation of chlorinated organics at the active surface of iron-bearing minerals in soils and sediments

Chlorinated organic compounds are emerging pollutants of widespread concern because of their toxicity, bioaccumulation,persistence, and lack of adequate regulatory measures. Their abiotic transformation, facilitated by iron-bearing minerals, is critical to their natural dissipation in soils and sediments. However, further exploration is needed to understand their underlying mechanisms and potential engineering applications under different redox conditions. This paper reviews the abiotic transformation behaviors and mechanisms of chlorinated organics at the active surface of iron-bearing minerals under anoxic and oxic conditions and summarizes the strategies for enhancing the abiotic transformation efficiency of chlorinated organics. The abiotic transformation rate under oxic conditions can be a few orders of magnitude higher than that under anoxic conditions. Under anoxic conditions, chlorinated organics undergo reductive dechlorination through reductive elimination, hydrogenolysis, dehydrohalogenation, and nucleophilic substitution. A close relationship between the abiotic transformation of chlorinated organics and the production of hydroxyl radicals by iron-bearing minerals under oxic conditions was discovered. Synthetic active iron-bearing minerals, carbonaceous materials, and biological synergy can facilitate abiotic dechlorination under anoxic conditions. Meanwhile, the regulation of redox conditions, the introduction of ligands, and the utilization of coexisting anions are proposed to enhance oxidative degradation. This study is expected to improve the comprehension of the abiotic degradation of chlorinated organics mediated by iron-bearing minerals and provide the theoretical foundation for developing new approaches aimed at addressing chlorinated organic pollution.

Versatile zeolite overlayer on ZnO film enabling high-performance bilayer NO_(2) sensoring

Bilayer structure with functional overlayer has been commonly adopted to resolve the issue of moisture poisoning in ***,the conventional overlayers always suffer from blocking access of gas molecules to sensing layer due to lacking porosity and deteriorated adsorption ***,taking advantages of the well-defined porous structure and hydrophobic nature of pure silica zeolite,we assembled an overlayer of Pd-PdO clusters-encapsulated mesoporous silicalite-1(MFI)zeolite(named M-S-1)on ZnO sensing layer,to prevent moisture poisoning,and enhance gas diffusion and adsorption *** inherent capability of MFI zeolite to incorporate monodispersed nanometric(ca.3 nm)Pd-PdO cluster in its void space is of great importance for the NO_(2) *** Pd-PdO@M-S-1 overlayer can attain negligible moisture interference to the ZnO layer without significantly altering the gas selectivity and baseline resistance,and enhance gas ***,the Pd-PdO@M-S-1/ZnO bilayer sensor can ultra-selectively(S_(nitrogen dioxide)/S_(interference gas)>4),and ultra-stably detect trace level of NO_(2)(9.5 ppb)at low temperature(370 K)under high levels of humidity(90%RH).This work exemplifies a next-generation solution to design bilayer sensors using zeolite overlayer for eliminating the humidity dependence of the gas-sensing properties.
