The discovery of a strong association between hepatitis C virus(HCV) infection and mixed cryoglobulinemia(MC) has led to an increasingly rare diagnosis of idiopathic essential MC(EMC).The incidence of EMC is high in regions where there is a comparatively low HCV infection burden and low in areas of high infection prevalence,including *** diagnosis of EMC requires an extensive laboratory investigation to exclude all possible causes of cryoglobulin *** addition,although cryoglobulin testing is simple,improper testing conditions will result in false negative ***,we present a 46-year-old female patient with a case of EMC with dermatological and renal manifestations,highlighting the importance of extensive investigation to reacha proper *** review the need for appropriate laboratory testing,which is often neglected in clinical practice and which can result in false negative *** review also emphasizes the significance of an extended testing repertoire necessary for better patient *** a strong association of MC with HCV infection and other causes that lead to cryoglobulin formation,EMC remains a separate *** diagnosis requires proper temperature regulation during sample handling,as well as characterization and quantification of the *** of rheumatoid factor activity and complement levels in the cryoglobulin test-panel promotes better patient management and *** guidelines should be developed and implemented for cryoglobulin detection and the diagnosis of cryoglobulinemic syndrome,which will reduce variability in inter-laboratory reporting.

This paper presents a novel Recursive Least Square adaptive method based on Genetic Algorithm （GA） to null out the unwanted users/interferers using phased antenna *** in this paper GA is used for optimisation of beam pattern thereby having a capability of forming deep null in the direction of interferers by minimising the total output power of the array.A uniform linear phased antenna array considered is a group of 8 antenna elements equally spaced at a distance of λ/2 whose outputs are added together to provide a single *** architecture of phased antenna array is such that half of the antenna elements in the array are operating as conjugate of the other half antenna *** objective of the design effort is to determine an optimum adaptive weight vector which effectively suppresses the *** the implementation of this approach in this Paper,the GA begins with the population of 8 chromosomes through 50 iterations to create a new generation after going through all the processes of selection,crossover and *** new population created is then used to find the phase angle after decoding and ultimately weight vector "W" is calculated from vector containing these nulling *** weight vector updation can be achieved by various methods such as using optimum filter which maximises the Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio （SINR） or the spatial matched filter where SNR is *** problem of nulling out the interferer by optimum filter is that closely spaced users are not nulled out properly by forming deep null in the direction of *** order to resolve this problem,novel method of RLS （Recursive Least Square） based GA is used where we have combined adaptive beam-forming approach with GA which was able to maximise the SINR even if the users are operating from within very small angular range of 5ο to 10ο.In this case Weight vector update is obtained by adaptive method used for RLS *** process is repeated for 2

This paper is based on research work conducted during 2008-2010 in Dera Ismail Khan (D. I. Khan) District, Pakistan, to investigate Socio-Economic Impacts of Dwarf Palm (Nannorhops ritchieana) and Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera) on the local inhabitants. A questionnaire for data collection of Dwarf Palm was designed and local people were interviewed. The main Dwarf Palm (Mazri) areas are lying between the Koh-i-Surkh and Marwat hill and yielding about 1000 tons of mazri leaves annually. Date Palm plantations are concentrated in Paniala, Paharpur, Chawdwan and Dhakki. The prominent varieties grown in the area are Dhakki, Shakri, Gulistan, Zaidi, Hillawi, Basra, Azadi and khudarawi. Dhakki Dates are well-known among all other varieties. Total area under dates cultivation in the district is 100,000 hectares, with total production of 11,000 tons dates. An average yield of Dhakki-Dates y-1 ranges from 6500 to 7000 tons i.e., 75% of the total production of dates in the area and dried dates production ranges from 800 - 1000 tons·year-1. A significant population is involved in processing of mazri and date palm leaves to prepare different products. Dates have a tremendous potential for economic uplift of the people. But growers face limitations and challenges regarding lack of information about customers and markets, harvesting, processing, and packaging techniques and infrastructure for producing good quality fresh dates. Fruit dropping in date palm particularly in Dhakki variety has become a serious concern. More than 70% date fruits drop before maturity. If production and processing constraints are properly handled, this may have significant socio-economic impact on local inhabitants.

细胞质雄性不育是小麦杂种优势利用的重要途径,为了鉴定3例小麦雄性不育系的细胞质类型,对其线粒体DNA(mtDNA)进行扩增片段长度多态性(Amplified fragment length polymorphism,AFLP)分析。文中利用差速离心法和不连续蔗糖密度梯度超速离心法提取纯化小麦线粒体。结果表明:通过该提取方法获得的mtDNA,其质量和纯度能够满足PCR反应和遗传学分析。在64对选扩引物中,筛选到了4对特异性引物,其中引物E1/M7在ms(Kots)-90-110不育系扩增出3条特异条带;引物E4/M2在ms(Ven)-90-110不育系扩增出2条特异条带;引物E7/M6在ms(S)-90-110不育系中扩增出2条特异条带;引物E6/M4在ms(Kots)-90-110不育系中扩增出2条特异条带。这些特异引物可以用来作为鉴定具有粘果山羊草Aegilops kotschyi、偏凸山羊草***、斯卑尔脱小麦Triticum spelta 3类不育细胞质型小麦雄性不育系的细胞质分子标记,为研究小麦细胞质雄性不育机理奠定了分子基础。

Hydro-Pericardium Syndrome (HPS) is viral problem of commercial poultry caused by aviadeno virus type-4. In Pakistan the problems have been controlled by administering inactivated infected liver homogenate vaccine (ILHV). The use of liver based HPS vaccines remained potential threat for having hypersensitivity reactions in poultry. The current study was carried out to compare the serological potency of HPS ILHV to vero cell line adopted vaccine in term of anti HPS-ELISA antibody titers. 14 HPS virus vaccines were prepared based on different concentration of antigen, type of adjuvants and source of virus substrate. Total of 160 birds were divided into 16 groups each containing 10 birds. At day of 14th age each bird of every group was injected with 0.3 ml dose of respective vaccine. It was observed that HPS infected liver based vaccine having 1 × 105.6, 1 × 105.6 and 1 × 103.6 bird lethal dose 50 induced 1092.10, 875.25 and 702.2 anti-HPS ELISA antibody titer respectively. The 20, 25 and 30 doses/gm HPS infected liver vaccine induced 110.4, 1071.9 and 1037.8 anti-HPS ELISA antibody titer respectively. Montanide based tissue culture HPS vaccine showed significantly higher 1148.45 anti-HPS ELISA antibody titer to aluminium hydroxide based vaccine (137.2) (P 5.6 TCID50 is serological potent against field infection. The vaccines based on such formulation could be prepared in future for effective immuno-prophylaxis against HPS virus.

Comparison of Shisha Smoking Behavior among Medical and Pharmacy Students

Background: Health care workers are respected in every society and have a strong influence on the behaviour of the community. In order to reduce the shisha dependence in the Pakistani population, it is necessary to evaluate the perspective of future doctors and pharmacists regarding this addiction as they become role models for the future generations. Objective: The aim is to compare the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of shisha use among medical students and pharmacy students in order to assess their support in the anti-shisha campaigns of Pakistan. Methodology: Cross sectional study was performed in four major medical universities of Karachi, Pakistan through a modification of the WHO global health survey questionnaire. Result: 398 medical students and 470 pharmacy students were included in the study which showed that currently 9.6% pharmacy students and 4.8% medical students used shisha daily (p = 0.000). Pharmacy students started shisha use in less than 15 years of age while this number was 29.5% among medical students (P = 0.000). Moreover, 44.6% pharmacy students and 50% medical students were not planning to quit this addiction within the next six months. 14% of pharmacy students and 20.4% in medical students (P = 0.002) were unaware that passive smoking caused lung cancer, while 23.4% pharmacy students and 33.5% medical students rejected it as cause of heart diseases (p = 0.006). Conclusion: A significant number of medical and pharmacy students were unaware about some of the serious consequences of shisha smoking. Therefore, both groups of students need to be educated about the health hazards of shisha use, in order to control this growing menace.

This study is based on research work conducted during 2008-2010 inDera Ismail Khan, KPK,Pakistan. The research area was extensively surveyed to investigate weed species. About 32 weed species, belonging to two monocot and thirteen dicot families, were collected from the study area. Plants were identified with the help of available literature and by comparing with the already identified plant specimens of the herbarium ofQuaid-i-AzamUniversity,Islamabad,Pakistan. Data inventory constitutes botanical name, vernacular name, English name, family, and flowering and fruiting period. Phalarus minor, Rumax dentatus, and Chenopodium album were the dominant weeds in the study area having comparatively higher relative weed density. Weeds having tough competition with wheat crop for light, moisture, and nutrients adversely affect wheat production. Hence, a constant effort is needed to keep the weed population under control. Many methods of weed control and eradication have been devised but chemical control is the most effective one. However, it may have some environmental consequences if not handled properly.
