The Musgr.ve Pr.vince developed at the nexus of the Nor.h, West and South Austr.lian cr.tons and its Mesopr.ter.zoic evolution incor.or.tes a 100 Ma per.od of ultr.-high temper.tur. （UHT） meta- mor.hism fr.m ca. 1220 to ca. 1120 Ma. This was accompanied by high-temper.tur. A-type gr.nitic magmatism over.an 80 Ma per.od, sour.ed in par. fr.m mantle-der.ved components and emplaced as a ser.es of pulsed events that also coincide with peaks in UHT metamor.hism. The tectonic setting for.this ther.al event （the Musgr.ve Or.geny） is thought to have been intr.continental and the lithospher.c ar.hitectur. of the r.gion is suggested to have had a major.influence on the ther.al evolution. We use a ser.es of two dimensional, fully coupled ther.o-mechanical-petr.logical numer.cal models to investi- gate the plausibility of initiating and pr.longing UHT conditions under.model setup conditions appr.- pr.ate to the infer.ed tectonic setting and lithospher.c ar.hitectur. of the Musgr.ve Pr.vince. The r.sults suppor. the infer.ed tectonic fr.mewor. for.the Musgr.ve Or.geny, pr.dicting per.ods of UHT meta- mor.hism of up to 70 Ma, accompanied by thin cr.st and extensive magmatism der.ved fr.m both cr.stal and mantle sour.es. The r.sults also appear.to be cr.tically dependent upon the specific location of the Mus^r.ve Pr.vince. constr.ined between thicker.cr.tonic masses.

The post-Mesopr.ter.zoic tectonometamor.hic histor. of the Musgr.ve Pr.vince, centr.l Austr.lia, has pr.viously been solely attr.buted to intr.continental compr.ssional defor.ation dur.ng the 580 -520 Ma Peter.ann Or.geny. However. our.new str.ctur.lly contr.lled multi-miner.l geochr.nology r.sults,fr.m two nor.h-tr.nding tr.nsects, indicate pr.tr.cted r.activation of the Austr.lian continental inter.or.over.ca. 715 million year.. The ear.iest events ar. identified in the hinter.and of the or.gen along the wester. tr.nsect. The fir.t tectonother.al event, at ca. 715 Ma, is indicated by40 Ar.39 Ar.muscovite and U e Pb titanite ages. Another.pr.viously unr.cognised tectonometamor.hic event is dated at ca. 630 Ma by Ue Pb analyses of metamor.hic zir.on r.ms. This event was followed by continuous cooling and exhumation of the hinter.and and cor. of the or.gen along numer.us faults, including the Woodr.ffe Thr.st,fr.m ca. 625 Ma to 565 Ma as indicated by muscovite, biotite, and hor.blende40 Ar.39 Ar.cooling ages. We ther.for. pr.pose that the Peter.ann Or.geny commenced as ear.y as ca. 630 Ma. Along the easter. tr.nsect,40 Ar.39 Ar.muscovite and zir.on(Ue Th)/He data indicate exhumation of the for.land fold and thr.st system to shallow cr.stal levels between ca. 550 Ma and 520 Ma, while the cor. of the or.gen was under.oing exhumation to mid-cr.stal levels and cooling below 600-660℃. Subsequent cooling to 150 -220℃ of the cor. of the or.gen occur.ed between ca. 480 Ma and 400 Ma(zir.on [Ue Th]/He data)dur.ng r.activation of the Woodr.ffe Thr.st, coincident with the 450 -300 Ma Alice Spr.ngs *** of the footwall of the Woodr.ffe Thr.st to shallow depths occur.ed at ca. 200 Ma. Mor. r.cent tectonic activity is also evident as on the 21 May, 2016(Sydney date), a magnitude 6.1 ear.hquake occur.ed, and the r.solved focal mechanism indicates that compr.ssive str.ss and exhumation along the Woodr.ffe Thr.st is continuing to the pr.sent day.
