The ballan wrasse(Labrus bergylta)is a marine fish belonging to the family Labridae characterized by 2 main morphotypes that occur in sympatry:spotty and *** studies have revealed differences in their life-history traits,such as growth and maturation;however,the genetic relationship between forms is presently *** 20 recently developed microsatellite markers,we conducted a genetic analysis of 41 and 48 spotty and plain ballan wrasse collected in Galicia(northwest Spain).The 2 morphotypes displayed highly significant genetic differences to each other(F_(ST)=0.018,Pnetic differentiation(F_(ST)=0.025,Pn using the STRUCTURE clustering approach with no priors at K=*** this case,the frequency of spotty and plain morphotypes was significantly different(χ^(2)=9.46,P=0.002).It is concluded that there is significant genetic heterogeneity within this species,which appears to be highly associated with the spotty and plain forms,but not completely explained by *** the previously demonstrated biological differences between morphotypes,and the present genetic analyses,we speculate about the convenience of a taxonomic re-evaluation of this species.

This study aims to investigate wood density at different levels of moisture, basic density and shrinkage of timber from Turkey oak （Quercus cerris L.） coppice forests growing in Central Italy. We also studied the variability in density in the trees within and among sites. Density shows no significant statistical differences in the tested population. A higher variability in the shrinkage than in the density was found. Wood moisture is referred to as dry mass and fresh mass, which is related to many performance characteristics of wood, i.e., energy production. Trends in moisture and water content were studied because these physical parameters play an important role in the specific area of firewood which requires an accurate estimation of mass, volume and energy content. This work is a contribution to improve xylo-energy estimates of small and medium forestry issues.

This study aims to analyze the factors affecting the costs of different logging systems, in particular considering three different bunching-extraction methods. Moreover the stumpage value of each plot was calculated, and a comparison analysis of the results is presented. The work was carried out in Central Italy, in an aged Quercus cerris L. coppice in hill zones, with a 45% average slope. Short wood system harvesting was applied. Felling and processing were performed by chainsaw, while extraction with three different methods： plot no. 1 with mules, plot no. 2 with a tractor with winch, plot no. 3 with polyethylene chute line. Transport of firewood from the forest track to the landing was made by a tractor loaded as a mule. In the plot no. 1 the costs per unit mass （30.76 ∈·t33% ^-1） were higher despite having the lower cost per hour （39.99∈·th^- 1）. The reason was the lower productivity （1.3 t33%·h^-1）. The plot no. 2 had the highest cost per hour （66.79 ∈·h^-1）. However, productivity was the highest （2.7 t33%·h^- 1）. This aspect was notable from the financial point of view （24.74 ∈·t33%^-1）. Plot no. 3 was the less expensive （23.92 ∈·t33%^-1）. Comparing the three methods, a reduction of the costs through more appropriate extraction systems may increase the stumpage value from 8.3 to 9.65 ∈·t33%^- 1.

The need to standardise stratigraphical subdivisions of continuous marine sedimentary successions that outcrop for hundreds metres, using clearly defined points fixed in the field is strongly felt. A proposal is presented here to formalize regional stages for the Lower Pleistocene （Calabrian） and for the Middle Pleistocene （Ionian） in Italy. The sections are well exposed, carefully investigated using multiple criteria （an integrated stratigraphical approach） and located in the central part of the Mediterranean. This area is recognized worldwide as a classical region for the neogene and the Pleistocene sequences. The terrestrial record is directly correlated with the deep-sea record, as determined from ODP Sites 653 （Tyrrhenian Sea）, 963 （Sicily Channel） and 964 （Ionian Sea）from the central Mediterranean. The present formal proposal is consistent with the InQUA and ICS decision to define and correlate the Plio/Pleistocene boundary （GSSP at Vrica） within the Olduvai Subchron, at 1.81 My, the Lower/Middle Pleistocene boundary at the Matuyama/Brunhes reversal at 0. 78 My and the Middle/ Upper Pleistocene boundary with the base of MIS 5, approximately 0. 13My. The present proposal also is consistent with the call for stage unit stratotypes that emphasize both the physical content of a stage and its boundaries （Hilgen et al., 2006）.

BACKGROUnD Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) is provided free of charge to all human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) positive residents in Italy. As fixed dose coformulations (FDCs) are often more expensive in comparison to the same drugs administered separately in a multi-tablet regimen (MTR), we considered a costeffective strategy involving patients in the switch from their FDCs to corresponding MTRs including generic antiretrovirals. AIM To verify if this would affect the virological and immunological response in comparison to maintaining the FDC regimens. METHODS From January 2012 to December 2013, we assessed the eligibility of all the HIV-1 positive adults on stable HAART being treated at our hospital-based outpatient clinic in Treviso, Italy. Participants who accepted to switch from their FDC regimen to the corresponding MTR joined the MTR group, while those who maintained a FDC regimen joined the FDC group. Clinical data, including changes in HAART regimens, respective reasons why and adverse effects, were recorded at baseline and at follow-up visits occurring at weeks 24, 48 and 96. All participants were assessed for virological and immunological responses at baseline and at weeks 24, 48 and 96. RESULTS Two hundred and forty-three eligible HIV-1 adults on HAART were enrolled: 163 (67%) accepted to switch to a MTR, joining the MTR group, while 80 (33%) maintained their FDCs, joining the FDC group. In a parallel analysis, there were no significant differences in linear trend of distribution of HIV-RnA levels between the two groups and there were no significant odds in favour of a higher level of HIV-RnA in either group at any follow-up and on the overall three strata analysis. In a before-after analysis, both FDC and MTR groups presented no significant differences in distribution of HIV-RnA levels at either weeks 48 vs 24 and weeks 96 vs 24 cross tabulations. Background: Urea pretreatment is an efficient strategy to improve fiber digestibility of low quality roughages for ruminants. nitrate and oil are usually used to inhibit enteric methane(CH4) emissions from ruminants. The objective of this study was to examine the combined effects of urea plus nitrate pretreated rice straw and corn oil supplementation to the diet on nutrient digestibility, nitrogen(n) balance, CH4 emissions, ruminal fermentation characteristics and microbiota in goats. nine female goats were used in a triple 3 × 3 Latin Square design(27 d periods). The treatments were: control(untreated rice straw, no added corn oil), rice straw pretreated with urea and nitrate(34 and 4.7 g/kg of rice straw on a dry matter [DM] basis, respectively, Un), and Un diet supplemented with corn oil(15 g/kg soybean and15 g/kg corn were replaced by 30 g/kg corn oil, DM basis, UnCO).Results: Compared with control, Un increased neutral detergent fiber(nDF) digestibility(P nd copies of protozoa(P nd R. albus(P n the rumen, but decreased n retention(-21.2%, P n concentration(-22.8%, P n of butyrate(-18.2%, P nate ratio(P nd enteric CH4 emissions(-10.2%, P n comparison with Un, UnCO increased n retention(+34.9%, P nd decreased copies of protozoa(P nd methanogens(P ntrol, UnCO increased nDF digestibility(+8.3%, P nal dissolved CH4 concentration(-24.4%, P nd enteric CH4 emissions(-12.6%, P nclusions: A combination of rice straw pretreated with urea plus nitrate and corn oil supplementation of the diet improved fiber digestibility and lowered enteric CH4 emissions without negative effects on n retention. With the increase in the number of computers connected to Internet, the number of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks has also been increasing. A DDoS attack consumes the computing resources of a computer or a server, by degrading its computing performance or by preventing legitimate users from accessing its services. Recently, Operating Systems (OS) are increasingly deploying embedded DDoS prevention schemes to prevent computing exhaustion caused by such attacks. In this paper, we compare the effectiveness of two popular operating systems, namely the Apple’s Lion and Microsoft’s Windows 7, against DDoS attacks. We compare the computing performance of these operating systems under two ICMP based DDoS attacks. Since the role of the OS is to manage the computer or servers resources as efficiently as possible, in this paper we investigate which OS manages its computing resources more efficiently. In this paper, we evaluate and compare the built-in security of these two operating systems by using an iMac computer which is capable of running both Windows 7 and Lion. The DDoS attacks that are simulated for this paper are the ICMP Ping and Land Attack. For this experiment, we measure the exhaustion of the processors and the number of Echo Request and Echo Reply messages that were generated under varying attack loads for both the Ping and Land Attack. From our experiments, we found that both operating systems were able to survive the attacks however they reacted a bit differently under attack. The Operating System Lion was handling both the Ping and Land attack in the exactly the same way, whereas Windows 7 handled the two attacks a bit differently, resulting in different processor consumptions by two different operating systems.

Breast cancer is a complex and heterogeneous disease with different clinical outcomes. The investigations of new biomolecular markers are essential to know the prognosis and improve the clinical management of patients. The SIRT-1 （sirtuin- 1） is a histone deacetylase implicated in various epigenetic critical functions for the cells and the maintenance of genomic stability. The objective of this study is to investigate the grade of expression of the SIRT-I （sirtuin-1） and the prognostic value in overall survival of women with breast cancer. Retrospective cohort of 457 women with breast cancer has been researched, undergoing treatment in Erechim-RS from 2003 to 2013 and followed until July 2015. The degree of SIRT-1 expression was investigated by immunohistochemistry in 123 patients （26.9%） of the cohort. The OS （overall survival） from specific disease and risk of death from breast cancer were estimated by Kaplan-Meier and Cox＇s proportional risks. The median age of 57.4 years cohort with OS of 79.6% in 5 years and 69.1% at 10 years, with follow-up time of 61.9 months are revealed in this work. The SIRT-1 overexpression was found in 6.5% of cases and characterized a subgroup of women with shorter survival and increased risk of death from breast cancer （HR = 2.66; 95% CI 1.03 to 6.86; p = 0.043） and adjusted by age （HR = 2.86; 95% CI 1.11 to 7.38; p = 0.030）, histology （HR = 2.79; 95% CI 1.07 to 7.28; p = 0.036）, lymph nodes （HR = 2.73; 95% CI 1.06 to 7.04; p = 0.037）, Her-2 （HR = 2.82; 95% CI 1.07 to 7.44; p = 0.036）; chemotherapy （HR = 2.90; 95% CI 1.11 to 7.60; p = 0.030） and radiotherapy （HR = 2.71; 95% CI 1.05 to 7.01; p = 0.040）. In regressive multivariate models adjusted for age, status of axillary lymph nodes, Her-2 expression and proliferation index （Ki-67）, the grade of expression of the SIRT-1 maintained association with poor prognosis.
