K-Ar dating of synkinematic illite is increasingly recognized as a central method to constrain the timing of shallow crustal faulting.Methods of efficient sample preparation and quantitative identification of illite polytypes are critical to acquiring K-Ar isotope data for authigenic clays.In this respect,we compared the commonly used clay size separation method through centrifugation with vacuum filtration technology,showing that the former is prone to extract fractions with finer particle sizes under similar conditions,thus improving the error in the authigenic end-member age.Additionally,we demonstrated that the side-packed mounting method for X-ray diffraction analysis can significantly enhance the randomness in powder samples,thus improving the quantification accuracy compared with the front-packed and back-packed methods.The validity of our quantification method was confirmed by comparing Profex■modeling patterns with a suite of synthetic mixtures of known compositions,yielding an average analytical error of 3%.Dating results of these artificial mixtures and the reference materials indicated that a large range in percentages of detrital illite and a sufficient amount of age data will produce reliable results for ages of both extrapolated end-members.However,if the range is limited,the extrapolated age close to those of datasets is still reliable.

Active faults can slip either slowly and continuously byaseismic creep, or abruptly by a seismic event. Both slipmodes of faults are closely related to the composition offault rocks. However, the actual materials resulting indifferences of slip behavior remain uncertain. TheGuanxian-Anxian fault (GAF) characterized by long-termaseismic creep and the Yingxiu-Beichuan fault (YBF)slipping by large earthquakes in the Longmen Shan faultzone (LSFZ) are ideal examples for exploring the aboveissues. Here, in the light of observation and componentanalyses, we find that the distribution of carbonateminerals in both faults is distinct.

Tailoring Anti-Impact Properties of Ultra-High Performance Concrete by Incorporating Functionalized Carbon Nanotubes

Replacing micro-reinforcing fibers with carbon nanotubes(CNTs)is beneficial for improving the impact properties of ultra-high performance concrete(UHPC);however,the weak wettability and dispersibility of CNTs and the weakly bonded interface between CNTs and UHPC limit their effectiveness as composites.Therefore,this study aims to enhance the reinforcement effect of CNTs on the impact properties of UHPC via functionalization.Unlike ordinary CNTs,functionalized CNTs with carboxyl or hydroxyl groups can break the si-O-Ca-O-si coordination bond in the C-S-H gel and form a new network in the UHPC matrix,effectively inhibiting the dislocation slip inside UHPC matrix.Furthermore,functionalized CNTs,particularly carboxyl-fu nctionalized CNTs,co ntrol the crystallization process and microscopic morphology of the hydration products,significantly decreasing and even eliminating the width of the aggregate-matrix interface transition zone of the UHPC.Moreover,the functionalized CNTs further decrease the attraction of the negatively charged silicate tetrahedron to Ca2+in the C-S-H gel,while modifying the pore structure(particularly the nanoscale pore structure)of UHPC,leading to the expansion of the intermediate CS-H layer.The changes in the microstructures of UHPC brought about by the functionalized CNTs significantly enhance its dynamic compressive strength,peak strain,impact toughness,and impact dissipation energy at strain rates of 200-800 s^(-1).Impact performance of UHPC containing a small amount of carboxyl-functionalized CNTs(especially the short ones)is generally better than that of UHPC containing hydroxyl-functionalized and ordinary CNTs;it is even superior to that of UHPC with a high steel fiber content.

Cloning of a new allele of ZmAMP1 and evaluation of its breeding value in hybrid maize

Gene resources associated with plant stature and flowering time are invaluable for maize breeding.In this study,using an F2:3population derived from a natural semi-dwarf mutant grmm and a normal inbred line si 273,we identified a major pleiotropic QTL on the distal long arm of chromosome 1(qPH1_dla),and found that qPH1_dla controlled plant height,flowering time,ear and yield traits.qPH1_dla was finemapped to a 16 kb interval containing ZmAMP1,which was annotated as a glutamate carboxypeptidase.Allelism tests using two independent allelic mutants confirmed that ZmAMP1 was the causal gene.Realtime quantitative PCR and genomic sequence analysis suggested that a nonsynonymous mutation at the598th base of ZmAMP1 gene was the causal sequence variant for the dwarfism of grmm.This novel ZmAMP1 allele was named ZmAMP1_grmm.RNA sequencing using two pairs of near isogenic lines(NILs)showed that 84 up-regulated and 68 down-regulated genes in dwarf NILs were enriched in 15metabolic pathways.Finally,introgression of ZmAMP1_grmm into Zhengdan 958 and Xianyu 335 generated two improved F1lines.In field tests,they were semi-dwarf,early-flowering,lodging-resistant,and high-yielding under high-density planting conditions,suggesting that ZmAMP1_grmm is a promising Green Revolution gene for maize hybrid breeding.

藏南冈底斯岩浆带经历了中生代俯冲-增生造山作用和新生代碰撞造山作用,是研究大陆地壳生长与演化的理想场所。位于冈底斯岩浆带中段的早始新世曲水岩基,主要由花岗岩、花岗闪长岩、闪长岩及辉长岩等组成。前人已经在年代学、地球化学等方面对曲水岩基进行了大量研究。然而,对于岩基的形成是否由岩浆补给控制及其详细过程的研究还较为薄弱。花岗闪长质岩体中暗色岩浆包体特殊的产出状态,如包体墙和弥散状分布的包体等,显示岩浆补给在岩基形成过程中发挥了重要作用。包体中发育斜长石主晶包裹角闪石等客晶的嵌晶结构。本文聚焦包体斜长石的嵌晶结构及客晶矿物(如角闪石),结合背散射图像、矿物能谱扫描与矿物电子探针分析,以追踪曲水岩基形成期间的岩浆补给过程。计算结果显示客晶角闪石的结晶温度与压力最高(783~853℃、0.23~0.45GPa),包体基质角闪石次之(781~808℃、0.21~0.31GPa),花岗闪长质寄主岩中角闪石最低(769~802℃、0.18~0.26GPa)。此外,发育嵌晶结构的斜长石具有明显的成分环带,其偏钠质的核部指示了晶粥体的存在。本研究初步构建了岩浆补给模型与嵌晶结构的形成模型。镁铁质岩浆沿长英质晶粥体下部裂隙上升并淬火结晶大量小颗粒角闪石,随后进入晶粥体上部贫晶熔体中破碎成为小的岩浆滴。岩浆滴捕掳晶粥体中的斜长石,继续生长的斜长石包裹结晶于深部的角闪石而形成嵌晶结构。

Efficient heterogeneous integration of InP/si and GaSb/si templates with ultra-smooth surfaces

Heterogeneous integration of InP and GaS b on si substrates holds a huge potential interest in near-infrared and mid-infrared optoelectronic devices. In this study, 2-inch 180-nm-thick InP and 185-nmthick GaS b thin layers were successfully transferred onto the si substrates to form high-quality and ultrasmooth InP/si and GaS b/si templates using molecular beam epitaxy(MBE) and the ion-slicing technique together with selective chemical etching. The relocation of the implantation-introduced damage in the sacrificial layer enables the transfer of relatively defect-free InP and GaS b thin films. The sacrificial layers were completely etched off by selective chemical etching, leaving ultra-smooth epitaxial surfaces with a roughness of 0.2 nm for the InP/si template and 0.9 nm for the GaS b/si template, respectively. Thus, the chemical mechanical polishing(CMP) process was not required to smooth the surface which usually introduces particles and chemical contaminations on the transferred templates. Furthermore, the donor substrate is not consumed and can be recycled to reduce the cost, which provides a paradigm for the sustainable and economic development of the si integration platform.

富流体的断层泥是浅部地震断层带中的特征岩石。一般认为,地震过程中摩擦热会导致粒间孔隙流体热膨胀增压,形成同震断层弱化(热增压机制),从而抑制摩擦熔融的发生。然而我们研究发现,在2008年汶川大地震(M_(W) 7.9)中断层浅部发生了摩擦熔融。汶川地震发生一年后,我们在汶川地震断裂带科学钻探项目一号钻孔(WFSD-1)732.6m深处的断层泥中发现了厚度约2mm的假玄武玻璃(凝固的摩擦熔融物)。该假玄武玻璃形成的位置极浅,且产生于非固结的、富流体的断层泥中。从岩心来看,断层面可见镜面构造和同震擦痕。微构造分析显示,该假玄武玻璃主要由石英碎屑和由长石与黏土矿物熔融的非晶质基质组成,基质中发育众多不规则的微裂隙,并可见流动构造。化学成分分析显示,其基质富Ba且被重晶石(BaSO 4)小细脉切割,为同震及震后流体存在的证据。由于假玄武玻璃在流体存在的条件下会快速蚀变,且龙门山地区大地震复发周期为3000~6000年,因而这些完全未被蚀变的新鲜假玄武玻璃可能是最近一次大地震,即2008年汶川大地震的产物。针对钻孔中断层泥进行的高速摩擦试验,证实了在钻孔732m深度发生地震滑动的条件下确实会产生假玄武玻璃。因此WFSD-1钻孔732.6m的假玄武玻璃被认为是汶川地震的产物,代表了汶川地震主滑动带位置。这是首次在自然界中发现浅部含水断层泥摩擦熔融形成假玄武玻璃的实例,不仅对认识汶川大地震的发震机制、断层强度、应力迁移与破裂传播具有重要意义,而且有助于我们认识断裂带内浅部脆性区域的力学属性、岩石变形环境和变形机制,促进对地震滑动机制和破裂过程的认识。

High performance sandwich structured si thin film anodes with LiPON coating

The sandwich structured silicon thin film anodes with lithium phosphorus oxynitride （LiPON） coating are synthesized via the radio frequency magnetron sputtering method, whereas the thicknesses of both layers are in the nanometer range, i.e. between 50 and 200 nm. In this sandwich structure, the separator simultaneously functions as a flexible substrate, while the LiPON layer is regarded as a protective layer. This sandwich structure combines the advantages of flexible substrate, which can help silicon release the compressive stress, and the LiPON coating, which can provide a stable artificial solid- electrolyte interphase （SEI） film on the electrode. As a result, the silicon anodes are protected well, and the cells exhibit high reversible capacity, excellent cycling stability and good rate capability. All the results demonstrate that this sandwich structure can be a promising option for high performance si thin film lithium ion batteries.
