Annual precipitation fields secular variation over global land areas for 1948—2.00

The secular variation over the global land an-nual precipitation (GLAP) fields for 1948—2.00 is investi-gated. Evidence suggests that the GLAP abruptly reduced around 1978 and experienced a decrease of 0.54 mm/a, on average. Fuzzy clustering is used to group the annual pre-cipitation over commonly-used 36 latitudes belts into six belts for examining its secular variation. The results show that, except northern high-latitudes (60°—90°N) where it is slightly increased, the precipitation is decreased, especially in 35°N—35°S, and the diminution is the maximum of 0.98 mm/a at tropics. Moreover, identification of 1948—2.00 flood/drought years on a global basis is made, showing no-ticeable interdecadal variations. During the years of warm (cold) events the precipitation decreases (increases) by 15.4 mm (14.4 mm) per year, on average. It can be assumed that global warming and frequent ENSO occurrences from the end of the 1970s maybe serve as the root cause of the dimi-nution.

Fire is a major type of disturbance that has important influences on ecosystem dynamics and carbon *** our understanding of ecosystem fires and their carbon cycle consequences is still limited,largely due to the difficulty of large-scale fire monitoring and the complex interactions between fire,vegetation,climate,and anthropogenic ***,using data from satellite-derived fire observations and ecosystem model simulations,we performed a comprehensive investigation of the spatial and temporal dynamics of china’s ecosystem fire disturbances and their carbon emissions over the past two decades(1997–2.16).Satellite-derived results showed that on average about 3.47-4.53×10^(4) km^(2. of the land was burned annually during the past two decades,among which annual burned forest area was about 0.81-1.2.×10^(4) km^(2.,accounting for 0.33-0.51%of the forest area in *** burning emitted about 2..02.TgC per *** to satellite products,simulations from the Energy Exascale Earth System Land Model(ELM)strongly overestimated china’s burned area and fire-induced carbon *** burned area and fire-induced carbon emissions were high for boreal forest in Northeast china’s Daxing’anling region and subtropical dry forest in South Yunnan,as revealed by both the satellite product and the model *** results suggest that climate and anthropogenic factors play critical roles in controlling the spatial and seasonal distribution of china’s ecosystem fire *** findings highlight the importance of multiple complementary approaches in assessing ecosystem fire disturbance and its carbon *** studies are required to improve the methods of observing and modelling china’s ecosystem fire disturbances,which will provide valuable information for fire management and ecosystem sustainability in an era when both human activities and the natural environment are rapidly changing.

Land use reflects human activities on *** land use is the highest level human alteration on Earth,and it is rapidly changing due to population increase and *** areas have widespread effects on local hydrology,climate,biodiversity,and food production[1,2..However,maps,that contain knowledge on the distribution,pattern and composition of various land use types in urban areas,are limited to city *** mapping standard on data sources,methods,land use classification schemes varies from city to city,due to differences in financial input and skills of mapping *** address various national and global environmental challenges caused by urbanization,it is important to have urban land uses at the national and global scales that are derived from the same or consistent data sources with the same or compatible classification systems and mapping *** is because,only with urban land use maps produced with similar criteria,consistent environmental policies can be made,and action efforts can be compared and assessed for large scale environmental ***,despite of the fact that a number of urban-extent maps exist at global scales[3,4],more detailed urban land use maps do not exist at the same *** at big country or regional levels such as for the United States,china and European Union,consistent land use mapping efforts are rare[5,6](e.g.,https://***/open_land_use/).
